Our coaches did a good job moving the chess pieces remaining in the first half but GP had too many quality players and they stepped up and capitalized on our mistakes in the first few minutes of the second half and scored three quick goals. Good luck to the last surviving public school! Highlanders to repeat. You'll have your hands full with GCA. They are as good as the press report I quoted earlier.

The feelings recommendations expressed here also need to be followed by parents at the field. Saw a parent berating the opposing team and coaches after a loss at the state tournament yesterday. Calling the boys 'fagots' and refusing go away as they tried to conduct their post-game meeting. Behavior like this is never acceptable no matter how passionate you are at the moment. I will not call the school out here but the principal, atheltic director, coach, and tssaa will be informed by letter. Please make sure not to embarrass your kids and ruin your school's reputation with such immature outbursts. Thanks.

Hoping we will get a 4th crack at Signal Mountain. Games 1 and 3 were fantastic OT games with too many Patriots banged up during game 2 for us to give Signal our best. Should be a great pair of semifinals to watch after some lopsided quarters. Could be a all district 5A final but I wouldn't put money on it. (But I wouldn't bet against it either.) Should be a great clash between Bearden and Brentwood in AAA.

4-3 Signal wins on a PK awarded at the end of the second overtime. Great job by the boys from both teams. Fun game to watch. Well officiated by the boys in blue. Patriots will try to repeat the feat of the Highlanders last year. Not district champs, not region champs, but they were the state champs! Look out Merrol Hyde, you stand in the way of my favorite team's goal.

I seem to remember from state last year that their stars are really young too. They have to be considered the favorites based on their schedule and results. "The Grace Christian Academy boys soccer team rallied by scoring all five goals in the second half to earn a 5-3 non-conference victory at Summit in Spring Hill on Wednesday. Malachi Jones and Alex Johnson each scored two goals in the win for the Lions. Lenny Torres, who tallied a hat trick, struck first for the Spartans for a 1-0 lead at the half. The Lions built a 3-2 lead before Torres knotted the game in the second half. GCA closed out with two more tallies for the win. Sam Barrionuevo added two assists with Levi Jones scoring one goal and brother Malachi tacking on an assist. Kytn Wolf made three saves and Josh Hilner had two for the Lions. The Spartans are the third Class AAA team GCA has faced this season. GCA, a Class A school, opened the season with a 2-1 loss against Franklin and battled to a tie against Bartlett in the Southern Coast Cup championship in Foley, Ala. The Lions improved to 10-1-1 and return to action Tuesday at home against Christ Presbyterian Academy. "

Congrats to AE on their big win over the state champs Gatlinburg-Pittman. They have to be considered in the tops of Div 1 A. Has anyone seen Sweetwater play? Seem to be having a great season. Any great teams in the middle or west of the state in single A?

Know that that some of the other districts have had some big games or have them coming up soon. Would love to hear how things are going in other parts of the state.

Great game tonight on the mountain. Signal Mountain and CSAS battled to a 2-2 tie with both teams laying it all on the line. Signal earned home field in the district playoffs in PKs 4-2. A well officiated game IMO. Center ref let the boys play but kept control of the game. Signal is the real deal and should make a good run at state again this year with one of their few losses being 2-1 to the big private Baylor. CSAS should also have a good chance for a championship run. Only loss was to a strong small private Boyd 3-1 with the unstoppable Wood scoring 2 of those. The Patriots went to Knoxville and played the Austin-East Roadrunners to a 0-0 tie but dominated the possession and chances on goal.

Agreed! All the girls should be excited and proud to make it this far and if they play their best anything can happen. Look no further than the boys A tournament last spring. The Highlanders of Gatlinburg-Pittman were not district or region champions but they do call themselves reigning state champs.

Looks like a really tough draw in the top half of the bracket. Any of the four teams could go all the way based on their records imo. I'm picking SM and Alcoa to meet in a rematch of last year's final with Signal coming out on top this year. Grace and Merrol Hyde should meet in the semis and I'll pick Grace to edge them out to meet SM in the finals. Signal takes the title in a close one and takes full advantage of being the biggest little school in TN. (They lucked into being just below the A/AA line)

Congratulations to all the young men who achieved a goal they will remember for a lifetime. I would especially like to recognize the Highlanders of Gatlinburg-Pittman who keep battling when down. They're not district or region champions but they are the '18 state champs. And to battle back against the Eagles who had a run of 6 shutouts against the best in Div1A in the championship game. KUDOS! !

Signal parent was heard saying that Alcoa had the run of play but their goalie stepped over the line and the Eagles scored on the free kick near the end of the game. I have a van load of teens so unfortunately I won't be able to give match reports for the other games I wanted to watch. Go get 'em Hustlin' Tigers. ARRIBA! ARRIBA!

Looks like the bottom half of the draw may be the tougher path in Div1A I've got to watch the inner city rumble between Stratford and Howard in AA If you look at the records ( which are often misleading ) AAA draw has paired the stronger teams together on the first round but not all on the same side. I think I'll watch DB v Blackman. At this point in the private schools season all the teams are strong but I like the chances for Nooga to bring home some hardware from either A or AA or if the stars align both.
