  1. And on top of having state champions in two classes, our region also had two other 5A teams that went to the semifinals (Catholic and Lenoir City) and Farragut and Bearden both had very good teams most years but like everyone else they couldn't get past Maryville. It's very telling that Farragut broke through and finally won a gold ball after dropping to 5A. We had a lot of good football teams in that region and yet WB was able to field teams that looked like they belonged on the field. Now we are just flat out awful. We haven't been in one game all year.
  2. Uh yeah it was. We played in a region with Maryville, Knox West, Knox Catholic, Farragut, Bearden, Lenoir City, and Heritage. That region was stacked from top to bottom. That was back during the weird hybrid regions when 5A and 6A were together in the regular season. Our region had state champions in 5A and 6A.
  3. Everyone knows WB hasn't had a winning season since 2007, but there was a somewhat slow decline from that 9-3 season to the absolute #### show the program is today. About a decade ago WB was winning about 3 games a year on average and looked competitive against really good teams. We played in the toughest region in the state and we were usually competitive against teams not named Maryville. Now we aren't competitive in any facet of the game against anyone we play. WB has had good teams with losing records, but this is not one of those teams. We suck out loud. And there's no excuse for it. We've had younger teams and teams depleted by injuries that were way more watchable and competitive than this 2022 squad. I'm done. I won't watch another game until this program gets serious about having a competent football program. The current state of affairs is an absolute clown show. What's the point of paying coaches and dealing with all the logistical things that having a football program entails if nobody involved is serious about winning? We can't even tackle and our "strength" program isn't making the kids strong. Do our players even practice and do workouts anymore?
  4. People are saying we're young and that we only have 6 seniors. Blah blah blah. We've had teams just as young in the recent past that weren't nearly as bad. WB rarely has large senior classes anyway. About 9 or 10 is the norm most years.
  5. Right now I have obligations on Friday nights that keep me away from games, but I try to catch bits and pieces of the livestream when I can. We are so bad this year that I have yet to see us score when I have been watching. Heck, I didn't even see our offense have a play over 10 yards until the second half tonight. We are flat out terrible and have a clown for a coach it seems. He says we don't have a chance passing the ball and going fast. We were better doing that as recently as Shad... We actually scored on decent to good teams' starting units. We can't even get a first down on a middling starting unit now. Run this coach out. This ain't working. We ain't going to win a game as long as he is coaching.
  6. The WB football program was ruled dead at the end of the game tonight. This program is done
  7. I was reading Daily Times articles to catch up with what the coach has been saying and it made me mad. The current coach likes to go on and on about how we are less talented than everybody and we can't win shoot outs. First of all, I have seen WB win shoot outs against decent to good teams in the past decade or so. I have literally sat in the stands to see us score in the last minute to win games. So Reeves' bizarre claim that WB can't win shoot outs is just flat out wrong. Secondly, how does all that loser talk inspire confidence and give your players a winning edge? And say you want to install a better offense, well you undermined yourself because you publicly stated we can't win games with modern offenses. I'm tired of loser talk. Karns was in the grave for decades and still managed to come back and be good. What's our excuse? I don't want to hear another word about talent disparities and transfer players until we have coaches that teach blocking and tackling instead of making excuses. Get better! Or give the job to someone who can get it done. We can and should be better than we are. I have seen WB be so much more than this and that's why it is hard to stomach such an awful product on the field. I literally cringe watching us. We just have no fight whatsoever. And why should we? We have a coach that more or less publicly says we can't win. Oh, and explain to me why we have so much motivational material on social media when our coaches tell the paper we can't win if we have to get in a shoot out? That's not very motivational, coach.
  8. Good Lord. The WB football program is dead. I remember complaining about Gregory on here 10 years ago. If only I had known how bad things could get! This is a game Gregory probably would have won, but if he lost this game it wouldn't have been nearly as one sided as it was tonight. I miss defense. I miss tackling. I miss physical, hard-nosed football. We are so soft it's pathetic. We get no push upfront. We run virtually every play and most plays result in a loss. Where is the blocking? Do we not have an adequate weight training program? What is the deal?
  9. You guys predict a Heritage victory over WB every year. LOL
  10. That game was a s### show from the start. Went down 7-0 early and then fumbled Clinton's first kickoff and it was 14-0 like that before we even had the ball. It's hard to draw up a worse start than that, especially for a wing t offense.
  11. I'm excited. I expect the Govs to compete and keep it within 14 or so.
  12. I think one of the best things that happened at WB is the wrestling coach taking over the O line. We have a really good wrestling program and the line is looking better.
  13. The defense will probably struggle at first but I expect it to improve. I think the offense will have consistent success running the ball. I don't see any teams we play completely shutting us down. The difference there is we don't have the unwinnable games on our schedule anymore lol
  14. Lol! We have given up 40 points a lot in the past decade.
  15. It's amazing how much of a difference it has made in our ability to run the ball. Last year we got zero push. The majority of our carries were for no gain or we even lost a yard or two a lot of times. We even sort of struggled to run the ball against Oliver Springs in 2020. Oddly enough, we had a really good game running the ball against Sevier County a few years ago, but that was mostly because their defense was like my electric magnet football board game I had as a kid where all the little players just moved across the board without any rhyme or reason.
  16. I said the days of giving up 40+ points to (and here's the key word) everyone are over. If you can keep the ball out of the other team's hands and eat clock you are going to give up less points automatically. I just know it left a bad taste in my mouth to see us get boat raced so bad by Karns last year. It was so bad that they put in a third string back at the end and he had a 50-yard touchdown run. That was flat out brutal.
  17. Someone in the Heritage thread made a point about Heritage that I think also applies to WB. Someone basically said that Heritage's offensive execution has been sloppy for years now and it would make more sense to slow things down and make things simpler and easier instead of staying up tempo and fast with the offense. It has been the same thing for WB. Granted, WB usually has better athletes than Heritage. In the recent past we have lived and died by big plays, but we have also turned the ball over a lot and gotten a lot of penalties. I'm encouraged by what I saw in the jamboree. We played a clean quarter and kept the ball away from Maryville for most of it. I'm excited to see how we stack up against Clinton this Friday night. This will be the only game I'll get to go to this year, so I hope the Govs put forth a good effort.
  18. Yes. I'm not making any predictions about wins and losses, but I'm convinced the days of us giving up 40+ to everyone are over. It looks like they will be able to at least move the ball on most teams and eat clock.
  19. I think the new regime is doing things the right way. When you can't field a decent defense (yet), it makes sense to have an offense that can eat up a lot of clock. It seems like they will be able to move the ball on people judging by how they moved the ball on Maryville on the ground. They have two running backs, Walker and Ogle, who were productive in the jamboree. I was also really impressed with the new QB. He actually looks like a really good athlete and if he goes down we will be in trouble. He was able to scramble and avoid sacks and he even made two nice throws that should have been touchdowns but the intended receiver dropped them both times in the end zone. That's one thing about the wing-t offense. You don't throw the ball much, but when you do there's usually guys open.
  20. McMinn is going to struggle unless their offense has gotten more balanced. You cant be one dimensional and win in 6A.
  21. The Govs should win at least 4 or 5 games this year. It will be inexcusable to do worse than that.
  22. Excuse me sir, Are you referring to the coach who canceled practice all week before a winnable game, the coach who got mad at players for goofing off at practice and canceled the rest of practice, or the coach who couldn't get the team ready to beat a mediocre 4A team? Or, maybe it's the coach who has won less games than the last two coaches before him despite having similar talent and an easier schedule? Oh wait... All of those are the same guy.
