  1. I don’t know what the heck is in that water in Haywood County but I wish Covington could tap into it. Them boys were BIG, fast, and full of talent. Looked like a jr. college team out there. Covington has serious issues on offense and in the secondary. Lack of a passing game to any extent hurts us big time. They got to get something figured out there or any descent team will give them issues in the playoffs. Haywood is in a class of their own in west Tennessee. I’m curious as to when Covington last laid a goose egg. Hats off to Haywood. Very good team. Not a big fan of their fans sitting in Covington’s stands heckling all night, but it is what it is.
  2. Wow! Just reading through this thread shows that these teams and fanbases have a lot of mutual respect for one another. Probably the most love I've seen on a thread between two good teams with such history. I hope that this transitions to the game Friday night with good sportsmanship throughout the game. Win or lose, both these teams will go to the playoffs better prepared for a deep run. And as far as 4A goes, I'll be routing for the Tomcats in the playoffs. GO CHARGERS! Here's to an injury free game!
  3. Man, this game has worried me for the past few weeks. Not being able to play last night will not help Covington as they needed all the prep they can get for this one. It aches me to pick against my boys, but I’m afraid that the run defense of Haywood will be too much and the deficiencies in our secondary will be exploited by their speed. Haywood, IMO, is easily the best team in west Tennessee and I think that they can win it all this year. Covington will have to be mistake free and provide a few surprises. I’m hoping that my pick will jinx Haywood but Haywood 28-14
  4. Timeline of events leading to tonight’s cancellation by Dyer County Game is approved and moved to Thursday Night, October 14th, on Wednesday October 6th,to try and accommodate football families on fall break and the predicted weather forecast. Game is moved back to Friday Night, October 15th, Thursday October 7th, due to scheduled class reunions and potential volleyball conflict. With weather outlook, Wednesday October 13, game is proposed to take place on Thursday, October 14th again with delayed start to accommodate both CHS and DCHS volleyball. Proposal is denied by DCHS AD. 6pm Friday October 15, game is proposed with delayed start to 8:30 due to lightning. Game was also proposed for noon kick off Saturday, October 16th. DCHS denied both proposals. This cancellation is not something Covington football ever intended or wanted. It’s not fair to the seniors. It’s not fair to the kids who are trying to get looks by college recruiters. It takes money to host and prepare every home game by the Gridiron, as well as the football team such as meals, field paint, and officiating; that is recouped by merchandise sells and the ticket of admission. Bottom line it cost money tonight for the game to be canceled. Senior Night will now take place the first round of the playoffs. copied from Covington Gridiron Page
  5. Haha...I had it for both of those games! I believe it finally got a little bit warmer when we went to Nashville and played PC that year. But yes, those two games were frigid...below freezing if I recall correctly.
  6. Hey finally a game where I don't wear shorts and flip-flops, only took until week 8. Is it just me or were we in letter jackets by week 5 20+ years ago? I feel like the last half of the season was always jacket weather. However, I remember a few years back, I was in shorts and flip-flops late in the season and by playoffs (a few weeks later), I was in all out Bibs with a portable propane heater. Tennessee weather!
  7. I'm not sure how that game would've went. It seemed that Milan was hitting on all cylinders at that time and Covington was having issues with injuries and trying to run a different offense because of the injuries. It may not have been that close of a game like the first one. I hated it for the seniors and the other players out there. Hopefully, COVID won't cause any issues this year.
  8. This play had little to do with the outcome anyway as Covington would score on the drive anyway. I think most fans were more concerned with the missed field goal/roughing. Game is done though, so Trojans, just make sure y’all make to the 3rd round where we can finish what we started with y’all …wink! Seriously though, good luck the rest of the season and stay healthy!
  9. Covington will come out fast and go up big early; Hopefully we will get to play some youngsters. I'm not sure since Kirby revealed his alternate offense (which appears better IMO) if he just transitions over to it in order to improve it or he goes back to the tight Wing set. Either way, with Haywood looming, the line has some work to do....Haywood County's D-Line could be one of the biggest and toughest in the state....and, we are gonna have to figure out how to get the ball in the air more.
  10. Every man is untitled to his opinion! I respect yours. Covington’s defense did some throttling of their own. Check the first down comparison. Dyersburg also scored 3 touchdowns on big plays of 50+ yards. One was a that definitely should’ve been picked. Those are on Covington’s D but as far as yardage, 1st downs, and no gain plays, Covington’s Defense looked pretty good if not a little better in my opinion. Dyersburg’s D is for real and take nothing from them, they were ready for the wing-t. After thinking about it, perhaps losing the first game between these two teams will be beneficial as odds of one of these winning twice will be tough. I would easily put down $100 on Covington in the playoffs, any takers?
  11. Pops, you’re a clown. If Covington loses, they lose. Heck, I’m a Tennessee fan, I can definitely take a loss. Fact of the matter is, this game actually was affected by the refs, watch the tape. Now, that happens, but fans are allowed to express displeasure when it does. This is the FIRST time on T that I placed blame somewhere else. Milan, SGC, PC….those teams have beat us in the past couple years straight up….Dyersburg, the refs helped control that outcome (unintentionally I’ll add). Facts are facts brother.
  12. Haha, I’ve calmed down…..for the record I said striped idiots not stupid…yes, I’ve been fired up for an hour but the drive home has cooled me down and I’m ready to move on. There were way too many one-sided calls in this game though…as a matter of fact I don’t believe Dyersburg had any penalties. But I digress, on to the next one. As for the refs, you can tell that they are having issues with staffing as many games are short refs, probably makes for some green ones that are allowed mistakes, just stinks to be on the losing side of it.
  13. I watched the replay….go check it out on Facebook Covington Gridiron page…the kicker slipped and flopped….horrible call! That gave them the game. Good night!
  14. Thank you for saying that with no partiality. Covington had a region championship taken from them tonight by them striped idiots. The missed field goal was the end of the game. Honestly, I don’t think Dyersburg had any penalties called against them.
  15. Covington was ROBBED by the referees….no doubt!
  16. This should be a very physical game. Depending on how good Dyersburg is on the defensive front will determine the outcome of this game. Covington has got to start throwing the ball a little more, if not just for reps for big playoff games, because we eventually are going to need it. Ripley exposed us a little and I hope the secondary issues have been sorted out through the by-week. As far as a prediction, I will assume Covington has worked out some kinks and will win by 10......31-21! Looking forward to the trek to D-Burg on Friday. GO CHARGERS!
  17. I mean, I know it's a long ways away and there is much to be seen. But, what makes you so sure of this? Who do you think will come out of the west?
  18. Good Friday! I think Covington Scores early and scores often tonight. I can see Brighton putting up 20 or so points, but it will not match the 50+ Covington will hang on the board. I hope for both teams to come out healthy with no injuries. GO CHARGERS! See ya'll tonight!
  19. It really wouldn't matter unless they moved to 6A or DII-AAA. They would mop 4a and 5a
  20. Getting to the running clock in the 3rd quarter or early 4th would be reasonable; there wasn't much time left and Rankin should have kicked it; going for 2 was the wrong move up 34-0 late in 4th
  21. It was pretty toe to toe in 2017 until mid-4th (1 score) when we turned the ball over.
  22. If Milan is successful at slowing the game down and grinding keeping time of possession, this will be a close game. Milan has the horses to run at Alcoa and chip away. This is how to play with them. I think Rankin get ultra conservative in the Title game against teams he doesn’t know well, and if you can play their game....it’ll be low scoring and there will be a chance to win it.Good luck , DAWGS!
