  1. Tiffany Atkins at Gibson County in the mid to late 90s was one of the best I have ever seen. Way ahead of her time for the area in regards to being a tall point guard. Could do whatever she wanted on the court. All the names mentioned on this thread are great though.
  2. I’m here tonight and I will be honest, you’re boys are playing a wonderful game and hard but all I will remember is the vile nature some of your fans showed towards our players and the refs. MOST of your folks were not like that but bad apples sour the whole basket in my book. I’ve never heard drown ups so angry towards children and I grew up in the gyms around Memphis. Quite honestly it’s the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever been around at a basketball game. They totally took away from 2 teams playing their #### off. Like you said, I’m straight forward but let me finish with congratulations to your boys, they played great.
  3. I think they’re just good for the area. From what I’ve seen the last few years the basketball East of Knoxville is average at best, in all three classes. From what I saw at Murfreesboro last year no triple A school up here would be able to stay on the floor with the prime single A schools in the middle and western part of the state.
  4. It’s been that way with every District 1 team all season. You never know what you’re going to get game to game. I haven’t seen any defensive discipline on any team in the conference and that is why the inconsistency has been visible.
  5. If anything they could have called a foul on Hampton 3 different times once he got it across half court. There was no travel, I’ve already seen the replay and trust me I would agree with you if it was.
  6. Both teams should be proud, they played their a—es off. It just so happens our boys got the last possession and throughout the game you had a feeling that was what it was going to come down to. Now it’s time to move on a get ready for regionals. Good game from y’all’s boys tonight.
  7. 29-23 UH up at the half. Both them and Hampton are playing hard but the officials will not let either team get in a rhythm with the amount of offensive fouls called. If either team hits the floor it’s called a charge. Short bald headed ref is convinced everybody paid to come watch him. It's ridiculous.
  8. There were quite a few high level programs in this showcase. The real question is why were teams like UH and Johnson County in it? It’s one thing to play this in the summer but another thing to do it in the 2nd half of the season right in the middle of conference play. Counting the Thursday night OT game against NG, UH had to play 3 games in a row all weekend and then start back district play tonight. Nothing good comes from getting demoralized against Oak Hill and Bluefield in January and leads me again to scratch my head at the leadership and decision-making of this team’s staff. Say what you want about Penley but he would have never done something this asinine. But of course the school got paid so all is well. I’ll get off my soapbox now, sorry.
  9. UH jumped out to a great start with loads of momentum going. Then, in one of the most bone-headed moronic coaching moves I have ever seen, UH’s head coach inserts the 2nd and 3rd string players in in the second quarter and allows North Greene to erase a 20 point deficit going into halftime. We lost all momentum and nearly pissed it away. I’ve always been taught you keep your foot on the gas until the 4th and then pump the brakes if needed. If both teams play great and it comes down to a game of coaching UH will be at a disadvantage against any team. Great effort and comeback by those North Greene boys though. They never quit playing.
  10. I can tolerate a little fist pumping after a big shot which our boys at UH do but I cannot stand the pissing and moaning to the refs that our boys do and that has been going on for 2 or 3 years now. I came up in a West Tn basketball culture where you kept your mouth shut and the only complaining to the refs was done by the coach, and that's it! They got a little taste of West Tn ball at state and Mckenzie handled their business and did not do all that talking or complaining. You could tell something was off with Hampton from the start the other night and knowing that a lot of them were battling sickness explains the lethargy.
  11. UH looked strong last night and shot the lights outs from beyond the arc in a blowout against Hampton but I have a feeling we didn't see the real Hampton last night. UH has the athleticism in their top 3 players to beat any single A school on this end of the state any night but their bench is not deep. Hampton is a pure point guard away from being really dangerous. Be interesting to see how it plays out with them and North Greene.
  12. Ok it's obvious I'm talking to a teenager from Kingsport. Go ahead and tell me while you're at it how great the football program is as well. Like I said, leave the house, travel westward (I promise if you use a compass and follow the W on it you'll pass through the whole state) and watch something besides NE TN basketball.
  13. Columbia punched them in the mouth right from the start. Their bigs went right after their Mr Basketball finalist and he was rattled. He spent most of the game whining to the refs. It wasn't even as close as the score indicated.
  14. I did watch them. I was thinking they actually beat Melrose a couple of times during that time. They were fun to watch.
  15. I said out west. Anything west of the tri-city region. If you don't think Humboldt or Columbia academy would easily handle DB or Science Hill then you should leave the house some more. DB got put out out by Sevier County and they in turn got humiliated by Whitehaven. I've lived half my life at one end of the state and the other half on the other end and I can tell you from a talent standpoint it's not even close. Take away the 90s Science Hill teams and what have you got? What about the last time DB played Clarksville in Murfreesboro. If I remember right I think they set the record for largest margin of defeat. These single A schools in middle and west to play these AAA schools from Jackson and Memphis in camps and tournaments and hold their own.
  16. This just shows the difference in caliber in basketball on the ends of the state. It's a whole different show out west. Columbia, Humboldt, and Fayetteville would destroy any AAA school in the NE corner of the state.
  17. Exactly! This kid is a smooth lefty who cracked the 1000 point club midway through his sophomore season this year. You don't do that by being average. He knows how to get to the rim and use his body to draw fouls and finish. When he is on from outside you better be in his face. He is probably the best defensive player in the region as well. The whole team gets in your face on defense. When the point guard is driving and kicking out to shooters this is a different ball team. Don't let their size fool you, they box out and can jump. A bigger team will not intimidate them at all, they seem to relish it. If Mckenzie focuses on Meredith too much they have other players that will beat you. Their best athlete comes off the bench. Anybody that overlooks UH or Cosby will be in trouble quick if they're hitting.
  18. University High probably just played their worst offensive game of the year and they still easily handled Harriman. I don't know if it was atmosphere or just plain undiscipline but not really sure how Harriman got here. Definitely not in the same league as UH. Great job by the Bucs!
  19. Good hard fought game on both sides and kudos to the UH Jr. Bucs for never giving up and fighting back for the win. Now to get ready for Harriman at Brooks gym. I can honestly say the records do not match the parity in this region. Anybody can beat anybody in Region 1A on a given night.
  20. I remember back in the 90s when we were all AA and you guys were loaded. Caldwell and Bonds.....don't talent like that in the region anymore.
  21. Great game by UH last night. When they move the ball like they did last night they are tough to beat. They got great play off the bench. Greenback has talent in the starting 5 but the lack of a bench really hurt them last night. You could tell they really ran out of steam late into the 3rd quarter. As far as the quarrel between parents last night, it really wasn't that big of a deal. It happened right in front of us and growing up close to Memphis we saw this during warmups. Now on to play Unaka for the 4th time this season and I know it will be a dogfight.
