  1. Plenty of rust to go around uptempo! Saw a girls game the other day and it wasn't pretty. Never seen anything like all these ppd. games at tourney time. Has to hurt all the Knoxville teams. Carter bout got bit!
  2. OK I thought he meant they practiced last week the way the story was written. Thought it was strange that he would come out and say they practiced, when it is not allowed. Is that a double header tomorrow at Fulton? Assuming it is. May go there and see 2 games...been thinking about going to D-B at S-D.
  3. I like the blind draw better...the suspense i guess. Still a crap shoot though. OR vs Blackmon rematch in 1st round would be fun to watch. Don't think Blackmon would relish it though. AAA games on Wednesday kick it off! Feel a sick day coming on haha
  4. If you win region and substate you will play either region 4 champ or region 3 runner up first round.
  5. I know that..they have just posted region 2 champ vs region 1 runner-up because they do not know the winner of that game yet.
  6. No way Catholic wins especially at The Jody! Looks like the Runnin Hornets just escaped the Tornadoes. Saw where Coach Boydstone said they practiced last Thursday and Friday, which is prohibited by Knox Co. school policy. Can't say that I blame him...that is a stupid policy and puts the Knoxville kids at an unfair disadvantage compared to surrounding counties.
  7. I believe you are not reading the bracket right Sweet Science. The way I read it is if you guys win the region and the sub-state you would play the winner of Region 4 or runner up in Region 3 first round.
  8. That still is better than playing Hamilton first game hah
  9. Farragut girls are slated to play at 4:30 on Saturday regardless if that is at Halls or Bearden.
  10. Why wouldn't they play? I figured it was because the snow was going to hit out your way first Gov and they didn't want Lady Gov fans traveling back in it. They should have started games earlier than trying to compise the Tan man and let him coach both of his games. Setting a tip at 8 last night is ridicoulous for the Halls/Heritage boys. Both Halls games should have been played in the afternoon like the other schools did. The real problem was not playing Monday night thanks to Knox Co. administration!
  11. I have seen teams finish 4th in district tournament and advance to the state....'91 Clinton Lady Dragons for one and I believe the Maryville Boys did it when they won the state. There is nothing wrong with the format. Have some pride and play to win!
  12. Don't overlook Karns especially at the Blue Zoo!
  13. I saw in the Sentinel today that Oak Ridge will have homecourt advantage throughout the region tournament if they beat Karns. I know OR hosted the final four teams last year, but can't recall if it was due to an upset in District 4. I thought it was District 4 turn to host this year, but with top seed Maryville getting upset by Heritage has it now swung back to District 3? Can anyone shed some light on this?
  14. Early look on predictions for region 1st round matchups. #4 Lenoir City at #1 Oak Ridge #3 Maryville at #2 Karns The above games look like a lock to me to occur. #4 Central at #1 Bearden #3 Halls at #2 Heritage These two games subject to change. Heritage and Central both could win in my opinion.
  15. Yes '89 and '91 teams went to the sub-state. Lost a heartbreaker to D-B in OT in '89. Ballinger hit a basket at the buzzer in regulation that was wiped off for walking smh and we were blew out by Science Hill with Damon Johnson and Shane Williams in '91. Had a couple substate teams in early 70s that lost to Fulton and some good teams in the early 80s with Reggie Wilcox, Jerry Everette and Patrick Cotter to name a few.
  16. Freddy still doesn't miss a game, but the days of the half-time shots are over. Freddy says "me old" haha.
  17. Yes i miss it too. We had a great stretch of basketball from 95-96 to 05-06, what I call the golden age of Dragon basketball. Couple of state appearances '97 & '04, 4 sub-states, multiple district and region championships. I think our best team was the '97 squad with a great senior class of Casey Taylor, Matthew McGhee, Robert Rochelle and the Tipton twins Caleb and Josh. Shephard and Dye were super-sophs on that team. We had Pearl-Cohn led by Ron Slay and Big John Henderson down 10 at half in qtr.finals of State. Actually the 98 team finished 31-1 losing to Tennessee High in the sub-state at home. That was a bitter loss for us and still hurts. Toree Morris was on that team, but battled knee problems all year and didn't play many games if I'm not mistaken.
  18. Thanks for the update chill! District must be playing a Boys-Girls format with one of each playing on the same night.
  19. Oh man no doubt haha. That was some fun times with those two players. I remember we came to your place in the 98 season ranked #1 in the state and they had to close the doors and not let anyone else in. It was three deep or more with fans sitting on the floor. Awesome atmosphere!
  20. Thanks...trying to decipher the standings to see who we play. I see 3 teams at 7-9 and 3 teams at 6-10. We swept the Cougars so I know were not last. Split with Central so it is possible to move up to a #7 seed. Thinking that we may be 7 since we beat Karns and Central didn't. That would put us up against either AC, Gibbs or Powell at #6. Not sure how that would shake out since all 3 split with each other.
  21. Riverdale had a good QB that year and we came from behind late to defeat them in the qtr. finals at home. Scotty Whitt and company...Clinton had a stable that year with a big offensive line. Safe to say that was probably our best team ever. We went into the state championship game with a 21 game winning streak and ranked in the top 15 of the USA today top 25. Gallatin was unbeaten as well coming off a state runner-up finish to Oak Ridge in '91. A great matchup and game the Greenwave defeated us 21-13. Still hurts....
  22. You are right about Gaylor leaving and our program going south. That shouldn't happen, but a bad hire was made (Catlett) and set our program back. Shattuck turned it around with a couple of playoff teams and a undefeated reg. season in '09. This is our first winning season and playoff appearance since then so yeah we have struggled. Foose I don't know which Cleveland team was the best, but the '93 team I saw come to Clinton was very good. Thought we might have to play y'all in '92 on our way to the state, but y'all were beat somewhere along the way...Riverdale maybe. This Clinton team is senior dominated and hungry for success having gone 0-10 as freshmen. They have laid the foundation that will hopefully continue for further success next year and beyond.
  23. Dragons have improved on defense and they are playing with confidence, riding the 5-game winning streak. I say Cleveland is the favorite with the HFA, however injury concerns with their QB could spell trouble for the Blue Raiders. This will be the Dragons first trip to Cleveland since 1994, when they almost pulled off a major upset during the Blue Raiders long winning streak that reached 50 something games, losing on a last FG if memory serves me correctly. Anderson Co. ended that run in the playoffs at AC in '96 I believe.
  24. WYSH has covered Clinton sports since 1961. WGAP a sister station to WYSH covered Maryville football, but not this year. Not sure if that station exists anymore.
