  1. Oh Floor mop, how you never seem to surprise me with your comments toward coach Whitt. I believe i recall some of the same comments a few years ago when I played for coach. Just a little background information on myself so you are aware of my stand point. I was a four year football player at Volunteer, but only played basketball my Sr. year. Yeah, I said it one year and that was the most fun I have ever had in a season. I didn't play all four years because I didn't make the middle school team and that carried over to thinking I wasn't good enough to play though high school. I was told numerous time by my best friends on the basketball team, "Ed your 6'1- 6'2 and strong as an ox come on play"... I insisted to them I would never be good enough to play basketball. I was later asked by coach Whitt why I hadn't played basketball in high school. I told him the situation, he asked me a couple question. The questions he asked, "Ed are you a hard worker" and "do you like the game of basketball." I seem to consider myself a hard worker and loved to play ball so I answered yes. Coach responded to my answers with, then you can play for me come open gym on Monday give it a shot. So I did and from the second I walked into the locker room coach Whitt acted like I had been there for three years prior. I don't view coach Whitt as cool, I view him as another father figure and he stressed the same things my father always told me, "son you have to work for everything!" As a former player for coach Whitt I can assure you that I was NEVER told to go out and take out other players. Did he tell us that just because we were from Volunteer we weren't "suppose" to get beat by SH,DB,and TH? YES, he most certainly did. Coach Whitt wanted to win not for him but for the team and at the end of the day if you didn't win well guess what we were going to win the next one! The picture you posted that is ridiculous, because what you are saying is coach Whitt told Javian Shivers to go tackle the kid. You are a joker, that's about as nice as it gets from me. I have a question for you. How many high school basketball coaches, that you know, only know the player for one year (Me) and would be invited by that coach(Whitt) to watch a playoff game at his house, even better come to watch that player play college football, and keep in contact with that player on a normal basis? Might I add I'm finishing my Jr. year in college, its not like a one year removed from high school thing. I would like to know where you are getting your information on coach Whitt? Have you ever stepped foot into a practice of his? If you haven't I'm sorry you missed out! His players love to go to practice they loved to joke around and still learn what was need to be learned about the next game. How many players of coach Whitt's players do you know that hate him? If you know any, do they hate him because he pushed them to be the best they can be? If that's their thought then I hope they weren't on the team I played on! Coach Whitt brought up a name on here that I have heard NUMEROUS times say I wish Whitt would have been here when I played. That man is Travis Morelock, former player at Volunteer and also one of coaches assistance past two years. He didn't say that because he didn't like his head coach he says that because he loves coach Whitt and what he instills in his players. So Floor Mop, give it up man this tread was not originally started for a coach Whitt bashing party. It was started for the sake of whats next at Volunteer. That is the same question that is asked throughout the whole community. Finally, if you want to see contact and over physical play in sports come to Emory,VA on a Saturday next fall. Make sure we have a home football game I would hate to see you travel for nothing. I'll be sure to show you what over physical is! I'm sure you could ride with coach Whitt if you must. Actually no you could not I wouldn't let my parents have to deal with someone as ridiculous as you for the hour road trip. Yes, coach Whitt rides down with my parents and also interacts with them on a normal basis too! Coach, you can bet I'll be there in July! As will close to probably 40 other players sharing stories about how they had their best times in high school playing for you! It never fails a new story comes up every single time! One last time for you to get a good laugh.... JAVIAN!!! Great way to start off practices! Love you coach thanks for everything!
  2. Thanks, I'm trying to oh Tilson is doing his own work down here so he don't need me to keep him in line ha
  3. You know I don't care what volunteers record is. The record isn't good but you know what like was said previously game is still being played. One thing I do know as a Volunteer alum the packed house with great atmosphere for football. When I played we had to win to get to the playoffs and for the past two years that has been done! This year Volunteer my have nothing to play except the trophy but that is the best feeling I had while at volunteer was taking it to Cherokee and lifting that trophy up with my team after the game. I haven't got to see volunteer play as much this year but plan to try to make the trip after my walk through on Friday. I hope to see a great game and that trophy to stay in church hill! For anyone looking to find a Saturday football game it just a short trip to Emory,VA (just past abingdon) 1pm where a great match up vs Catholic University will be played! LETS GO FALCONS! (if you can't go why should you let them?) Go WASPS! Smith52
  4. I'm almost certain that it is not anything to do with the coaches. I feel that Volunteer has one of the best OL coaches around here. Coach Porter know what he is doing! I am not certain what happen at Clintwood because I was unable to make the trip but the one game I have made(east) the OL was making it very difficult for the RB to run the ball. From what I seen it didn't seem like they where firing off the ball low enough and connecting to their blocks long enough to get the ball carrier thought the line. Also it is obvious you are very unaware of how the system is going to work next year. Yes two 5a schools will be in the conference but those two decide on their own who goes to the playoff come playoff time one of those two go to play other "5a" schools. The other school like volunteer, tenn high, and south will go into a different bracket to play the playoffs. Although volunteer will play SH and DB the still have just as good of a chance as they do in the conference they are in now to get to the playoffs. Now if they don't get no running game together than they won't have to worry about this years playoffs. I have great confidence in the coaching staff at Volunteer and know they will coach the players the best they know and give the players the opportunity to go out and compete in ever game the remainder of the season! Smith25(52) GO Falcons! GO Wasps!
  5. Yes I do realize that, but do you realize he is being compared to him so thats why that name was brought up. ONCE AGAIN I'M NOT DOWNING THE GUY!! Drop the situation and talk about the team. I hear it was a great start to the south scrim. I was told by my ex roommate who is helping coach at south that volunteer was hitting them in the mouth and getting after it but after shorten by two lightening flashes and started back up again south came out on top but just by one score. Lets here the side from someone else who was there. Season is one week away get after them boys! GO Falcons! GO Wasp! Smith25(52)
  6. Ron Bliss himself was at the scrimmage I'm not to sure why there is two different reports it should have just been him writing one.
  7. I'm not downing him one bit never have the only thing that got me fired up is that he come in "saying he was the starter" but I guess I have been told other wise. I was going off of what I was told not what I heard in person and that was my bad. If I ever do talk to the kid I will till him how I think he plays I've never been afraid to let people know what I think. I always like when people point out things to me then I can think and evaluate what they said next time on the field and try to get better or change the bad things. As you read from my last post I said he will be just fine.If he does earn the starting spot then I don't believe that it will be like it was with Shane giving the ball every down or working him like a horse this year unless they know that he isn't going to be hit and taking a beating because size is down. Next year with a year of working out I could see him gaining 15-20 lb and he could very well take a role of work horse. I don't believe any RB at Volunteer will be the soul work horse with three or four good backs that can run the ball hard and effective they will be rotated and kept fresh. I support Falcon athletics just as much if not more then most people who have played and graduated because they have got me to where I am in my career now. So if I hurt his feelings I'm sorry but if I were him I would take it different because I did when something was said oh here about me or a team I was on I liked to use it as motivation or use it to prove people wrong. Go Falcons Go Wasps -Smith25(52)
  8. The article was a bit disappointing not because it was about Devin but because their more to talk about on that TEAM then just a single person. The TEAM didn't look to bad at all. The defense tackled well for a first contact with someone other then the practice squad. From the looks of things I hope they don't have to go to a back up QB at any point. If they do that might not be good as of now. I can assure you that someone will be lined up and ready if that were to happen. I believe that volunteer could very well make that forth spot of the playoffs and with a little falling of the football fall into the third spot. The over all outlook of the team D small in size but will still hit you and have the speed to get to the ball. O they are a working progress and didn't look bad for the first time out this preseason they got backs that can hit the whole Issac fighting for extra yards, Cody coming in a hitting holes and running, and devin he will be fine under weight (fixable), fumbles (fixable), and just general knowledge of the game (fixable). I don't feel he will be the breakout as the DB and Tenn high running backs were as a freshmen but he will make his presence known maybe not so much this year but years to come. Best of luck to the Falcons season is just weeks away! Go Falcons! Go Wasp! -Smith25(52)
  9. Yes the weight room was absolutely packed when I picked up my brother from the school the other day. I know someone around here has to have some spare change to throw Volunteers way. We always needed an add on to that weight room now with all the players that are coming out to play it's very much needed! With the weight room filled to the rim and what looked to be possibly the freshmen outside running it looked like that falcons will be ready to strap it on this next week for two a day/three a days. I hope to make it down to one of the scrimmages and practices before I ship out to start my dirt work of pre season, best of luck to the falcons! GO FALCON! Smith25(52)
  10. If you read I said know OF not know him but I'm done with this "fight". I'm not one bit downing your brother and his playing ability. I said I don't feel a freshmen could come in and just start game 1 at a key position as RB getting 20 30 carries. I'm not saying he won't nor that he shouldn't because if he is ready then play the kid. I know all the coaches are up beat about him because they have told me and I also know they want to use his speed to the teams advantage. From what I know about the kid I wouldn't be surprised to see him play some time at WR or a slot to use that speed with some motion and hand him to ball or get it to him in a screen and use his speed. I hope he does get some good playing time because that will only be the best for him in the years to come. Good luck and hope to make it to the betsy scrimmage and possibly come up and watch some practices before I get started up myself. Go Falcons Go Wasp -Smith25(52)
  11. I I'm not hating no one I support every single person that plays Volunteer football. I was just commenting because I do know that your brother told the upperclassmen running back to not worry about starting that he was going to be the one on the field. I find that a little hard to say coming in as a freshmen not ever taking one varsity snap. If your really interested in how I know of your brother it just so happens that I am dating a girl thats brother is a player at Church Hill middle and is very good himself. I'm not taking anything away from how good the kid may be but I don't feel that coming in as a freshmen you can guarantee to start, now playing time could be a different story as a down and distance back. I never said he wouldn't play I don't foresee him starting this season but let him prove me wrong it won't be the first time. The talk about the weight room and having to lift all this weight to play thats should def STOP because if that were true I wouldn't have played. I max as a sr the same weight on bench I max as a fresh. Granted that lift in football isn't all that big of a deal unless you play line but my max on squat only went up 150 in four years and power clean only 70lb in 4years. So that is not at all what makes a good football player but I will tell you this, the weight room does help a WHOLE lot come game time. Smith25(52)
  12. If this kids name is Devon then I have heard of him but there is also word that he is a bit cocky and a bit cocky will get you hurt at the varsity level. When a freshmen come in it's much different then the middle school ball they are use you got Sr MLB's for other team that will step up and meet you in the hole and rock your world and take the cocky right out of you REALLY QUICK!
  13. This should not be taking the wrong way if coach notices a freshmen can get the job done he will be given the chance that the person in front of him for the time being is given. If the younger guy is the one ready and willing to get the job done EVER snap he will play. -Smith25(52)
  14. I LOVE IT!!! haha! Took a while off of coacht but now that season is rolling around it's time to look around and get peoples thoughts. Comment like this are reason when I was in high school I read this stuff, I LOVE LOVE LOVE people saying nothing but negative and then get proved wrong. I can tell you that volunteer WILL win more than three games. Coach has installed they way things are to be done and it's proven to work the past two years why would it not work this year. Yes the Sr. from last year are gone but that don't mean football ended at Volunteer the underclassmen step in and are doing their work to play on Friday nights. I will be shocked if Volunteer don't get back to the playoffs because I know they can. Good luck Falcons make this person eat their words and then just win because losing shouldn't be an option! GO Falcons GO Wasp -Smith25(52)
  15. Congratulations to both cody and jordan i also hear javian will be signing this up coming week so it looks they might have all vhs up there besides me b4 long. Good luck to all of you all. to answer the question uva-wise is NAIA.
  16. I made my way down to Volunteer to watch the second practice of the spring they had great numbers and still got some boys that are planning to play that are playing baseball. I know when I was playing the numbers were less. I also want to up date anyone wanting to know about the scrimmage next friday it will be vhs vs ss starting at 5:30 and be at vhs. It should be a great scrimmage for both teams to get out there hit on someone other than your team and at the same time learn where each team needs to improve. Come out watch some hitting should be fun. -Smith25(52)
  17. I'm very curious as well. I will be done with spring ball here at Emory next week and hope to make it to some Volunteer Spring ball. I got word from my roommate from SS that SS and VHS will scrimmage at VHS this spring. I don't remember the date but as soon as I find that out again I'll post it. If anyone has any info on up coming season it would be great to hear it. I'm sure the Five Rivers is going to be just as it was the four years I was there, but I think even with the loose of some great players last season Volunteer will make the playoff third year in a row! I know coach Rider and the staff are determined and the players will do all it takes to get back in the playoffs too. I look for Bennett to have a big year and also Antonio. I'm not for sure but I think it will be the same last name at the QB position,Luke Cradic, cousin of Keith and he'll be able to handle the job! On the defensive side the one I look to take it over on this side/my side of the ball will be Wes Carpenter he has a lot of experience and also he is a very strong explosive player. I know their is more on defense that is just one I played with and know what he is capable of doing on Friday nights. Smith25 (52) Lets Go Falcons have a good spring! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  18. Other than what? Cause no I don't know what your talking about. I played for him and I'm am aware that he does do whats in blue for sure!
  19. Coach Cut don't want a dual threat QB in Tenn look where the last one went transfered out and when to ol miss but if you think the last good dual threat before that won them a national title. So i think your right he should look once again but i believe Curt is set and ready to signing the final dotted line to Wis. Good luck to the south rebels got to pull for them seeings is how my roommate is a former rebel and NET. -Ed Smith
  20. I was just going off what i was told by a former player from Tenn High last season. If I am wrong i am sorry..
  21. You didn't have Elijah huh thats why he was wearing a number 44 and not 40 right? I was not the one to bring this up this would be brought up by someone who played last year at Tenn High and he brought it to my attention that Elijah did play but not in the 40 it was 44.
  22. Hey man I greatly appreciate your thoughts...NOT!
  23. Hey just so you know there is a big nine basketball forum... but barb thanks cause that kinda what I was going to say.
  24. I'm wondering why does Cradic have to play perfect and why would Barlow need 150 I mean if we pass the ball well then he may only have 50 or so and who is to say he will run the ball all night? Volunteer has more than just Barlow at running back if need be and Cradic just has to play his game to get the job done. As I seen in the Greeneville paper all the pressure in on Greeneville's back so their coach said but I don't think that is 100% true the pressure is on both team all they need to do is play to WIN not play to not lose! As I said before good luck to both teams it should be a good one. GO FALCONS! -Ed Smith
  25. Yeah it is definitely hard but so much help and grammar can be fixed ha I am the first to show that! And for you ol' FlyinFalcon I here you ol' Captain DH is still here haha I'll be at Greeneville just as I was at Tenn high to give you guys the last "GO GET EM" I know the Falcons got it in them if they just come out play sound football and just play like i said last week like it is your last game cause it very well could be and I can remember Tenn high last season when my football in high school was done it not cool win it ends like that. Good luck to both teams should be a great game(very cold one too)! See you all in Greeneville. -Ed Smith
