  1. They can win state championships through multiple divisions of Dual State Championships
  2. Thanks Clint. So whats the difference between the Legislative council and the Board of Control? Who trumps who?
  3. Is the legislative council from with in TSSAA or is it a Tennessee Govt instrument?
  4. No offensive moves.....by who?
  5. I mean schools with less commitment to wrestling would either stop offering the sport or allow it to exist as a club sport. The big wrestling schools will possibly compete on that level.
  6. I will remain vocal critic of splits in wrestling. I have never heard of a compelling reason not to have one unified state championship. As I have stated here often, have multiple divisions of Dual competition. A-AA will have to resolve itself to little brother status. Now and forever. And that might be just fine but it so goes against the grain and spirit of the sport. An A-AA competitor might defeat and be seen as overwhelmingly the best in the state at his weight, but if it doesn't occur in February, it really doesn't matter. The statements have already started that "he could beat anyone in AAA." Sorry. Even if defeated in December it wont matter if it doesn't happen in February. I somehow doubt if you will hear anyone say, "well, he could have won A-AA." I could see A-AA talent moving into AAA zones. A-AA coaching talent moving into AAA schools. Why? Because in our sport you want to compete against the best. Always. But a hat tip to A-AA, you have what you desired and supported your division well at the State tournament. I love the enthusiasm.
  7. More likely they will become more like a club sport and wrestle teams around in the area, never competing for championships.
  8. I started this, then decided to delete it but couldnt figure out now to. But rather than derail another thread, what do you feel might be the ramifications of the split? In one of the A-AA Regions, at least six coaches told me some of their wrestlers were disappointed they weren't competing in the AAA State. Now I think this will go away with attrition as these guys graduate, maybe. But what might be some unforeseen consequences of the split? I will state for the record I am totally opposed to any split; A-AA, Public/Private, D1/D2, what have you.
  9. Someone in the stands had locking hands, according to the post. I have no idea why and there can be no reasoning I can think of.
  10. No one has ever missed a call......... from the stands.
  11. Lets get a picture from AL and not bear false witness
  12. Restrooms. There is no sensor flush. You have to bend over and push the handle. How that got by TSSAA inspection I can't imagine. We have to get out of that place.
  13. Yeah it seems I remember that. The purpose of the quota was to weight private schools populations up by a multiplier of some number? Something like that? I cant imagine the stronger D2 schools wanting to compete in anything except the largest division so the multiplier would be a moot point? Or is it that if you compete in a larger division in one sport, you must enter all sport teams in the same division?
  14. I don't know anything about the board of control. I was only asking a question. I have no idea how they get there, I assume some body or executive appoints them. Do you know? There are D2 board members and D1 board members? I didn't know that.
  15. The Board of Control is appointed by the governor?
  16. I wonder how many of GA's A, AA, AAA wrestlers go on to wrestle on the next level? Its a serious question versus their AAAA, AAAAA, AAAAA? ( I understand they have six divisions). I would almost think those large schools would siphon off the talent from the smaller schools. I honestly don't know, maybe someone with insight might answer.
  17. Oh I think that could be done. Of course you understand D2 feels "run out" by D1, but lets not make hash over it (I am a public school kid, btw). Lets put this meeting together first and have your people talk to my people.........so to speak....
  18. Are you talking one division period? Are the schools out of Reg 4 ready to bury the hatchet and lobby to reunite D1 and D2? I tell you what. Get agreement to reunite all divisions and I will help raise money to underwrite changing the venue. (you need to capitulate to multiple Dual Division championships. I understand it for the small schools. What is the harm in five divisions of 20 schools each (100 schools) with smaller schools given the option to wrestle up?)
  19. if they only there were showers at the AG Ctr, no one would ever get hurt.
  20. Great piece, BBB. Artie Manning has been the heart of Clarksville wrestling for my duration as an official. As an official, if Artie was walking to the table you better have your facts straight. His knowledge of the rules, protocols, and justifications and so on is immense. When we didn't see eye to eye, after a match or meet was over, it was over. Artie doesn't carry things forward. The kids he coached and sat in the corner for had no better advocate. Artie told me a long time ago, "Rick , we just want a fair shake, that's all." By that he knew the odds were on his side. Glad you posted this. Thanks.
  21. I think I can help you find the per day cost of the municipal auditorium. My guess is you will be around $5000 per day, according to a buddy of mine. You wont get parking (that belongs to the city). You may get concessions or can be negotiated. Perhaps you could charge $20 per day per cooler. You will have to be very creative. The problem you will run into is entities such as TSSAA work off of projections. They project to make, lets say, $50,000 for the state tournaments, clear. These projections are usually made based on previous years averages, new revenue streams, and so on. From there they base their fiscal budgets going forward. So if TSSAA clears $45,000, it reflects a $5000 loss, though there is no tangible loss, but reflected in the budget as such and must be made up for elsewhere. What I am saying is that it makes changing things difficult once hard numbers are established. I am sure when Williamson County proposed the venue change, they crunched a lot of numbers, including the loss of the Chattanooga wrestling community. But a free facility can overcome a lot of sin. The direction would be to demonstrate to TSSAA there is little to no downside and a tremendous upside to moving the venue. Bringing in a corporate sponsor to underwrite the cost of renting any of the sites mentioned would be a step in that direction. If Chattanooga could accomplish that in Chattanooga with someone like BCBS, who is located there, or another such corporation that would be a start. You have to overcome the free venue I think before you can consider a next step. It might be easier in Nashville to find corporate sponsorship for a Municipal Auditorium. But then the city of Chattanooga might be more encouraged to get involved as losing the state Wrestling Tournament had an impact on the city economy more so than Nashville that likely wouldn't be felt nearly so much. Going to those city leaders with hard numbers would surely help. I have sat down and dealt with Mark Reeves on a number of wrestling issues and have found him reasonable with my thoughts and proposals (normally representing others besides myself), so from that standpoint we have opportunity to make improvements.
