  1. Yeah, that's my point, though. You've got to do something to keep them from shooting that well. No one is going to lose putting up those stats.
  2. Loretto keeps shooting like this, no one is going to beat them. 1st half against Clay Co. shooting over 60% again from the field, again. Thru 1.5 games: 36 of 59 (61.0%) from field; 11 of 22 (50%) from 3pt; 14 of 17 (82.4%) from FT line.
  3. Loretto in Round 1 shot over 60% from the field (next best A team- Clay Co.- shot 38.8%). Biggest key, IMO, is limit easy open looks. I think you pick your spots to double Weathers, but you have to keep multiple people from getting going offensively. Then find every way you can to wear Weathers down. Make her work on the defensive end. Have someone in her face full court, all night. If the game is close down the stretch, you know who Loretto will try to work thru. You win the game not by how you play her in the 4th quarter, but how you played her the previous three quarters.
  4. Current posted vacancies (per TSSAA Bulletin Board): BGA Centennial Columbia Central East Hamilton Independence I'd expect in the next month or so, you'll see a lot more get posted as coaches retire, move elsewhere, or get fired.
  5. Certainly, true. In no way crowning them just because of the hire. However, I think this will make them a lot more competitive then they have been since moving to D2. I think they'll start to get athletes in that will make them more competitive with the teams you mentioned. Lot of good basketball in D2. Nothing is easy or a given.
  6. Kid can play. Needs to put some muscle on his frame, but has all the skills you'd want coming into high school. He'll make an immediate impact as a freshman.
  7. It is a nice honor if you win it, but you are correct in stating that often it is based on popularity/hype. The people that vote on the award don't get an opportunity to watch games outside of their coverage area. They vote for the people they know, and then reach out to colleagues in other areas for information on the rest (or they go with the hype they hear of players from other areas). It's hard to really know how players stack up if they aren't playing similar competition, and even then it can be tough. I try not to get worked up about any of the Mr/Miss awards, because I know it has its shortcomings. Gold balls aren't given, they are earned. That should be the focus.
  8. Going to say that it doesn't. Based on everything Arlington's admin has put out on the incident, they've deflected all the blame toward DC. At no point did they say anything that'd make me think they'd let her go.
  9. Some of it is definitely the backdrop. Hard to go from a high school gym to an arena. Nerves are also a big issue.
  10. Northcutt certainly got a lot out of what he has had there. Think he is a really good coach. Dexter will bring different strengths to the program and a different style. Certainly the home run hire that they need to be able to compete in DII.
  11. Lot of people still arguing about something that there shouldn't really be an argument about. Obviously some people have their feelings hurt during this thread. Lotta yelling that isn't leading anywhere. Just going around and around in circles...
  12. Been a while since I've seen her play, so hard for me to comment on the comparison between the two. Will say it isn't supposed to be a talent award, but an award based on production, which hopefully is what you see from someone with great talent. Hart isn't going to get big D-1 offers because she is an undersized post (at least at the collegiate level; need to be well over six foot to be a post at that level). Doesn't change the production she has, if anything it makes it that much more impressive. Weathers is certainly deserving of the honor. She has been one of the best players in the state since she started playing high school ball.
  13. I think this has been the gameplan this postseason for teams playing GC. Sell out to stop Madison Hart, and ask the supporting cast to beat you. Micah Hart has stepped up in those games, did today as well. Bit easier to commit extra defenders to stop a post player than a guard, but Weathers is certainly very talented. I'd assume that she get it this year, if for no other reason than career achievement (not saying that she doesn't deserve it based on this year alone). That isn't how the award is supposed to work, but a lot of times it does.
  14. Not sure what legal costs go into filing a restraining order and having a judge hear it. I'd assume that'd be the main reason not to do it. Appeals to the TSSAA cost money though, too.
  15. Quite possible. She played at Bethel and was a really good ball player. Would be a logical person to fill the position, especially with already having a history with the players.
  16. Middle School state isn't a good litmus test. MS programs have varying season lengths. Lots of schools don't play in TMSAA at all. Schools play in a wide variety of end of season championships. Some high schools have multiple feeder schools that all have their own programs, while some only have one. It's not that it isn't an accomplishment, but it doesn't necessarily prove success down the road.
  17. This blueprint has been out there. Happened during football too. Doesn't always work out, but is probably a better option then appealing to the TSSAA.
  18. Definitely will need to get more going on around the basket. 25 three-point attempts is a lot, especially when you are hitting less than 30% of them. I think this team has seemed nervous on multiple occasions this year, but hopefully they'll settle in and look better in the Semis. That being said, it was still a really big win, credit to them for finding a way to win, even when they didn't have their best game.
  19. You are going to see a pretty big shift in the boys program at TCA. Not a knock to Northcutt, cause I think he did a good job with what he had, but this will be a game changer. Not only is Williams a good coach, but talent will seek out TCA because he is there. He's done a lot of AAU coaching over the years, and I've already heard some of those kids are wanting to come play for him. His son, who is a freshman, is really good, as well. And as mentioned in your post, an all-around great guy. He'll do a great job at the helm of the athletics program there.
  20. Pretty close. Tourney record is 23 by Bradford's Michelle Street in 1993. To be mentioned as the same breath as her is quite the honor. Anderson's final stat line was 18 pts (8-14 shooting), 22 boards, 6 blocks, 5 steals, 1 assist. That's the type of performances you need from your kids at the state tourney. Based on what I've seen, that's the best performance of this years tournament, thus far.
  21. Seems like North Greene’s post player had an incredible game. Double-double and 5+ blocks and steals. Hate it for that GC team but they’ll be back.
  22. Out West I know we still have a lot of good programs that will be staying in A. You lose Gibson Co and Union City to AA, but will still have traditionally good programs like: McKenzie, Greenfield, Gleason, Dresden, Bradford, and Peabody. Landscape will certainly look different, but should still be a lot of good basketball in A moving forward.
  23. Hearing Dexter Williams (former Liberty state championship coach) to TCA is a done deal and that word is officially getting around. Will be a big get for them. He has a son who is really talented that will be a freshman next year, and has a lot of AAU connections that will likely bring talent in. Could see a big flip in the program overnight. Should also add another good player to their girls team, as he has a daughter that is a Junior. Added depth at the guard position.
  24. State Tournament you throw everything out there. They've played a lot of zone this year, but I know they've run some press and other things. Any good team (in my opinion), isn't going to be one dimensional and just come in with one defense to run. Just like how you wouldn't come in with one offensive play, you don't want to give someone the chance to beat you just because they scheme the right plays for your defense. Have to be prepared to mix it up. Even if they stay in zone, wouldn't be surprised if you see a 1-2-2 or 1-3-1 thrown out there. Plus going back to man or running a press is always a possibility. I don't think their starters are the right personnel to press with, but if they are forced to go into their bench, it might be the better play. Haskins is a good coach and will have them prepared.
  25. There are a lot of teams that get he raw end of the deal because of this mess. Any kids from Arlington who weren't involved in what happened, Collierville, Blackman (depending on what happens over the next few days), potentially more teams if this draws out and Arlington is later forced to vacate by the TSSAA. It's a crappy situation.
