  1. Reading the thread from this reporter, my understanding is judge threw out TSSAA's motion to dismiss the restraining order off the bat. TSSAA tried to make a power play, and he didn't budge. My guess is they'll have to present their case, which should be interested.
  2. I wouldn't say they are any more talented than in past seasons, possibly a touch less. As others have noted they have a TON of length. Pair of twins who play wing that are over six foot and a post player who is over six foot (even Jada, their PG, is physically imposing). That being said, they aren't the quickest as a team, so they shore up the lack of speed by playing zone and using their length to their advantage. They played a quick South Side team and did just fine playing it. In years past they had more speed, so could play a lot faster. Also, as others mentioned, it is an active zone. They don't just sit and let you pick the zone apart. They do a good job trapping and disrupting in it.
  3. As is evidence from the last decade, Westview is the type of team that just reloads every year. Good middle school program and tradition, keep feeding the beast. The big issue, much like this year, will be getting those bench players plugged into their roles as starters or bigger contributors. Sometimes that happens quickly, other times it takes time. I know they've got some good young shooters on the team. Didn't get the chance to see this middle school stud, but know they've always got good talent coming up the pipe.
  4. Union City and Dyersburg generally can provide a good match for both the boys and girls. GC/SS and USJ/SS would be a lot of fun in girls, but boys game would be a snooze most years. Sadly, there just aren't a ton of great teams in a relatively close distance. That's why I think looking in Memphis/Nashville is the play, even if you have to play some D-II schools. Doesn't fix having a weak district, though. Nothing you all can do about that, and you have to play all those games in the lead up to tournament play too.
  5. And to be fair, I have the same issue with a couple other programs in the area, not just you all.
  6. I'd like to see them schedule better even outside tournament play. Try to pick up some larger schools to the schedule, or play some teams from Memphis/Nashville area. I know it is tough to schedule when both your boys and girls teams are good because: a.) Other teams don't want to come play you and b.) Very few programs have both a good boys AND girls program. You end up scheduling one that's good with one gender and the other one stinks. Your district has been so big the last few years, you haven't had many games to try and fill. Hopefully with a more open schedule you can pick up some tough teams. As I said a few weeks ago when I mentioned your (and Westview's) SOS, it isn't an indictment of your team, just an observation.
  7. It isn't my place to share. I've heard that there is potentially hard evidence of at least some of the things that were said, and if those ever make it to light, we'll all get to see what was said. You are correct in stating the he never said anything directly to their coach and that all was passed down through word of mouth. My guess is that if you know that much of the story, you probably already know what was alleged to have been the topic of his comments. The exact things he said could have been changed or worsened as they went down the line. If the things he said eventually come to light, we can all judge for ourselves. I'm not out here trying to issue penalties against McCord, but I am trying to be realistic with everyone that this subject might not be finished. I assumed if something was going to happen, it would have already happened, so I could be wrong.
  8. I have heard what the comments are about, which is why I have passed my judgement on it. However, I've been very clear that his comments didn't justify assault. My hope is DC admin will take a serious look into his words and actions, and not just sweep it under the rug.
  9. Are there accusations that she said something inappropriate? If so, I'm willing to hear what was said and make a judgement on it. To this point, I haven't heard that being part of this conversation.
  10. I'm not sure if it is because they have some sort of contract with MTSU or what, but I agree they should have cut the cord. 1,000 capacity is ridiculously low for a venue that seats over 11k. TTU did 2,000 for D-II and it seats less than 10k. If MTSU couldn't at least match, they should have moved the whole thing to Cookeville. 250 tickets doesn't go very far. After limiting tickets as much as they have this year, and them shutting down the tournament last year, I'd be looking to move on from the Glass House if I was the TSSAA. It was even more frustrating that the TSSAA sang MTSU's praises for finding a way to make it work this year, like they went above and beyond to make the tournament happen there.
  11. Based on the talent at each school, I'd say that's a safe bet.
  12. Opposite region (5-AA) has Summertown, Loretto, Mt. Pleasant, Lewis Co., Giles Co., White House Heritage, Sycamore, Harpeth, Fairview, and Cheatham Co. Going to be some awfully long road trips come Substate.
  13. With a couple of exceptions, most people aren't excusing the severity of the attack. That being said, just because someone was unfairly attacked, doesn't excuse the actions that they had that led up to it. It is okay to condemn more than one party involved. DC coach shouldn't have said certain things that he said or done certain things he did. It doesn't justify him being attacked, but he should still be held accountable for his actions as well. Similarly, Arlington should be held accountable for the actions of their players and coaches, even if they weren't the ones that threw the punch.
  14. That'll be the substate opponents, but not region. Region includes 11-AA which would be Camden, East Hickman, Hickman Co., Stewart Co. and Waverly.
  15. Westview is staying in AA. South Side moves up to AAA (four classifications now instead of three). Westview will be in 12-AA with Gibson Co., Huntingdon, Milan, and Union City. For a while it looked like Dyersburg was going to be in the district too, but they got bumped up to AAA. Westview should have some fun ones with Gibson Co.
  16. They'll need her to be special if they want a Gold Ball this year, can't just ride Madison to the title. She is capable of doing it and would love to see her shine on the big stage.
  17. Round 1 predictions of winners: Peabody Loretto Gibson Co. Summertown Semifinal Predictions: Loretto Summertown State Champ: Summertown I think whoever comes out of the bottom half of the bracket will win it all. Think Summertown-Gibson Co. would be a GREAT game! As a West Tennessean, I hope my predictions are wrong.
  18. Alright, March Madness style: What does your bracket look like? Peabody vs. Clay Co. Cloudland vs. Loretto Gibson Co. vs. North Greene Clarkrange vs. Summertown
  19. 6 of 8. Seems to be where I land in AA. Had same record in region championships.
  20. 5 of 8. Struggled with the games out East, as I expected I would.
  21. Credit to FW for doing what it took to keep that game close, but this is just another example of why we need a shot clock in high school. Even if it is a 40 second shot clock, we need something to keep the pace of play going. I've watched way too much "hold the ball" this year. Sometimes it is the right strategy, but it isn't fun to watch.
  22. Hard to overcome a flat start when you get to games like this. Not the first time this season SS has come out flat, but there is a point you face teams that are good enough to capitalize. Impressive they came back and made a game of it, but credit to Covington for pulling it out. I'll be interested to see who SS schedules next year. Their district is going to be very weak again (NS and Liberty are awful, South Gibson still has to close the gap), but having a smaller district they should be able to schedule more non-district opponents. Would like to see them load up on some stout competition. I mentioned it a few weeks ago, I think them not being challenged all year was going to be an issue.
  23. Incredible accomplishment by both the player and team! Congrats!
  24. Ahh, we get to the root of it: parents are a distraction. Now that I can wholeheartedly agree with
  25. Could be a couple things: A.) Somebody screwed up and posted the document before they were supposed to. B.) They didn't think it was that big of a deal to just go ahead and post it. C.) They tried to just slip it out before people could complain and ask for an open draw. D.) It's the TSSAA. Are we really trying to use logic here? Not sure how much of a distraction it really is, especially to the coaches that are still in it. They have enough on their plate as it is. Most coaches are just concerned about getting to Murfreesboro at this point, not who they'll play when they get there.
