I don’t know how well known this story is, but Coach Benny Monroe, a month before he accepted the Cleveland job, had agreed to become head coach at Knox Central. In his words, he had already caught them (Central) going back on a couple of things that they had promised him to get him to go up there, so when the Cleveland job came open a month later, he accepted it.

BTW- I am a Florida Gator fan, but please don’t hold that against me. I pull for UT except when they’re playing Florida. My stepdad grew up in Powell and is a lifelong Vol fan.

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I have visited this site for years, but just now registered. I am retired now, but was involved with high school football for over 35 years in Tennessee and Georgia. I now reside in Georgia, but keep up with the game in both states. For years I attended the Clinic/Blue Cross Bowl in Nashville and also when it moved to Murfreesboro. I haven’t been since it moved to Cookeville (you can’t get there from here. Lol.) For years I also attended the Georgia semifinals when they were held in the Georgia Dome. Of course, the dome is gone now. They play the Georgia finals at Georgia State Stadium (the old Turner Field) now. The new stadium that replaced the dome charged too much to continue to play there. Anyway, good luck to everyone tonight, and I look forward to talking football with you guys.
