  1. I agree with you. They’re much better when they let their quarterback run and not worry about him getting hurt. He tends to hold the ball too long when he passes and that leads to the turnovers.
  2. Agreed. #7 for them was the best player on the field but he got hurt a couple times and their biggest plays was when stuff broke down and he just scrambled around and made something happen.
  3. Don’t look too much into that score. That was the worst Harriman team I’ve seen in quite some time. Also, they probably had 200+ yards in penalties. Wartburg was much better at not committing penalties tonight even though 1 holding call negated a touchdown. Any good team beats that Harriman team badly and Wartburg had to come from behind down 18-7 to win it late in the 4th.
  4. If Harriman has any type of speed they did last year then this game won't be close. I say Harriman wins this one big time as Wartburg won't be able to stop them.
  5. Sounded like they were very undisciplined. I think they had 7 personal foul penalties total. I believe 2-3 of them were offsetting, so it sounds like it was a chippy game. Penalties and turnovers will kill you every time. They're talented in the skill positions, quarterback just needs to be accurate with the ball and allow his playmakers to work.
  6. Consolidation would be the best thing for the county, but I have a hard time seeing everybody agreeing to it. Too much pride within each city in the county and the love for their respective schools runs deep. Plus a Consolidated high school would be placed in Wartburg since that is the middle of the county and that would rub a lot people the wrong way.
  7. They can definitely play with the teams around here if they can block up front. They're missing their best lineman for this game and games going forward (knee injury). They lack size up front, but their skill players can match up with other teams. Wartburg has not been very good in about 12 years or so, so I would like to see them improve and build off of last year.
  8. Wartburg got 2 transfers. One from Oneida who didn't see the field and another kid who will play on the line (his mom is a teacher at Wartburg now). Neither transfer will be a difference maker. Other than that they returned a lot of players from last years team, and are still very small minus 2 guys they have on the line. I think last year was a wake up call for Coalfield and they won't play as sloppy as they did last year against Wartburg. I think Coalfield wins big tomorrow night.
  9. Greenback also only loses 2 kids so they will be in contention again as well.
  10. Coalfield having to replace 5 starters but will still be the favorites in this region returning both Treece brothers and Heidel who will be their 1 guy next year when he gets healthy.
  11. Eagleville with the win 2-0. Really quick game. Both teams pitched really well as offense was lacking.
  12. Luke Treece from Coalfield won Mr. Baseball as a Sophomore this year. Should be a fun game between them and Eagleville today.
  13. I would have to say Peabody. They have seemed to be the best team all year, but any of those teams can make it out of that side. They may burn each others pitching before reaching the championship game, so it should be fun to watch how the coaches handle that.
  14. Yeah, not really sure why they moved the A games from Riverdale high school.
  15. Best 3 teams all on the same side of the bracket it seems like with Coalfield, Eagleville, and Peabody
  16. Wartburg lost a heartbreaker 10-9 to Harriman last night. They had multiple chances to finish Harriman off, but just couldn't get it done. Wartburg will travel to North Greene and Harriman will host Cosby. Good luck to both teams!
  17. Looks like Greenback and University will be playing game 3 today. Both games looked competitive last night from what I seen. Should be a good one today! Greenback still has their #2 guy available for the game today.
  18. Wartburg over Midway tonight 7-3 and Harriman upset Oliver Springs in a slugfest 17-14. Wartburg will host Harriman on Wednesday for the region championship game. Should be another good game Wednesday night for a gold plaque!
  19. They were allowed to play the region tournaments on Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Region 2A played all of their games on Wednesday and Thursday before the rain came in on Friday. I know both district 3A & 4A played their district tournaments a week early forcing all of the teams to cancel their regular season games scheduled for the first week of May, so their system seemed to work this year as they were able to beat the weather.
  20. Yeah Peabody looks the part. I’m not sold on Coalfield. They’ve got good hitters and a great catcher in Luke Treece, but they don’t have the pitching imo. They don’t have a dominant guy that can go shut down a good team. They’ve got several good arms but nobody with overpowering stuff. Their guys just throw a ton of strikes and don’t walk many people. Their #2 arm has also not been able to pitch since midway through the season due to an arm injury and has only been able to DH for them. He was also their shortstop with their ace was on the mound, but now they have an 8th grader playing SS when their ace pitches.
  21. Harriman at Oliver Springs and Wartburg at Midway in the Region 2A semifinals on Monday. Both should be great games.
  22. I know nothing about University. Greenback is solid, but they’re also young (only 2 seniors I believe). I would say University will have the advantage playing at home but Greenback does have a decent pitching staff so they will have quality starters for all 3 games if it gets to that point. Assuming North Green makes it out as well and has to go to Coalfield, I would be surprised if Coalfield drops a game to them.
  23. Coalfield and Greenback punched their tickets for sectionals today. Coalfield winning the region beating Oakdale 4-3 yesterday beating Greenback 6-0 today. Greenback beat Oneida 10-0 yesterday and then beat Oakdale 8-7 today with a walk off in the 7th inning after being down 7-0 going into the 4th inning. Both teams have a shot to make it to state, but Greenback will have to get past University High.
  24. Coalfield vs Oakdale and Greenback vs Oneida are the matchups to start Region 2 play. Coalfield is the heavy favorite to win the region and I would expect Greenback or Oakdale to make it out of the tournament as they both have more pitching than Oneida, but Oneida hits the ball really well with their first 5 guys in the lineup, so it should be a fun tournament.
  25. Best time of the year starts today for some districts. District 3A play in game is today between Wartburg and Sunbright and the winner will get to play Coalfield on Wednesday with the other game on Wednesday being Oneida vs Oliver Springs. Wartburg should win tonight if they take care of business and advance to play Coalfield. The other game will be interesting on Wednesday. Oneida and O.S. split their regular season games with both teams winning the game with their ace on the mound. It will be interesting to see if those teams will use their ace to get into the winners bracket game or if they will both throw off to save their ace for the loser bracket game. As for District 4A, the play in game is between Harriman and Rockwood and the winner of that game gets to play 1 see Greenback and the other game is between Oakdale and Midway. Greenback is the favorite to win that district, but it will be a toss up as to the other team coming out of that district will be. I would have to guess it will be Oakdale, but Midway is playing pretty well right now and they have the pitching to make it out of the district tournament.
