Coach Stroup is already in the school. He started last week, and is teaching a Wellness class. They have been in the process of moving, so he may have missed some due to that, but I'd say he will be leading football activities moving forward.

I can confirm that Wes is coming to Gallatin to coach, but his exact role on the staff has not been determined, yet. Whatever role he fills, he will be a great addition to the staff, and we are excited to have him.

Just because they haven't made a hire yet, doesn't mean we won't get a good coach. I know the administration is trying to get it right this time, and are doing everything they can to get the right guy. Be patient, there are still some big names in the mix, I'm sure.

Sounds like people are just running with whatever wild rumor they are hearing, regardless of how unbelievable it sounds. It is entertaining, though.

Not sure where you are hearing this, but somebody is giving you some bad intel. There's not a public HS coach in TN that makes anywhere near $150K, and I'm not sure any are worth it. There's just not a ROI that justifies it. $100K would be believable, but not much more than that.

I assume he means if the new coach comes from a county that has a higher pay rate than Sumner County does, or has higher coaching stipends than Sumner. We are really behind several other counties in that regard. Still working on that Brinks truck, though.

There is no set amount that they can, or will, pay the new coach. It's all dependent on the candidate's years of teaching experience, and what level degree they have. That's the base amount. Then, add on their coaching stipend, which is 10% of their base salary for a head coach in Sumner County. I think their can be some ways to boost that stipend some, but that's basically what the salary consists of.

I'm not saying they should or shouldn't hire any of those guys, but they are the "Gallatin Guys" I've seen or heard mentioned. Personally, I think Wes would be a great hire. Brent Alexander ain't coming, too much bad blood there from stuff that's happened in the past. Great guy, good coach, and I think he's happy at SC. Overton has done wonders at Shafer, and will be a great high school coach one day. I just don't think they'll give him a shot, due to his limited body of work. His time is coming, though. I'm with you on Darnell, but I think he'd be a great guy to get on staff in some capacity. I'll support whoever they hire. Like many others, I just want to see a competitive, disciplined team that represents the school and community with some pride. I think the talent is there, and will flourish under the right coach.

Why would that worry you? I don't think anybody wants a "Gallatin Guy", just for the sake of them being a "Gallatin Guy". The only "Gallatin Guys" I've heard mentioned are Inman, Alexander, Overton, and Darnell Bass. People are interested in them because they know what kind of coaches they are, and have proven they know what it takes to improve a program, and their teams tend to play with discipline and class. They would understand what the program means to the community, and that would bring some excitement to the fanbase. People believe they would embrace the history and tradition of the program. Let's face it, people are sick of the product that has been put on the field the last several years, as it as at an all-time low. I've also seen and heard some other names mentioned that would be great hires, that are not a "Gallatin Guy". I know there have been calls made to gauge interest. I've heard interviews will begin next week, but I'm not sure what the timeline is for making a decision. I just hope they take their time to make a good hire, whoever it is. Make no mistake, Gallatin is still a football town, and a competitive team would be huge for the school and community. The casual fans have quit showing up for games. They only ones in the stands now are player's families, students, faculty, and die-hard fans. That would change if you give people something to show up to see.

I'm pretty sure you are correct, and I think he will apply. I've heard several names that have, or will, apply. No idea what direction they are going to go with this hire, though.

Which alumni has Gallatin ran away? Joslin and Lassiter are they only two alumni that have been head coaches. I agree, Coach Joslin may have gotten done wrong, but Lassiter retired on his own accord. Williams and Watson were not from Gallatin. Please, enlighten us.

Sad to hear this. I played with Mike for a season at MTSU. Gone way too soon.

I won't pretend to know who makes the final call on scheduling, but I would think it will be tough to keep Beech, Station Camp, and Hendersonville all on the schedule next season with the new regions. I would think the administration will want to keep as many as possible, due to ticket sales. I would hate to see those rivalry games go away. Like it, or not, Beech is the measuring stick in Sumner County now, so you need to beat them for bragging rights. Depending on region groupings, ticket sales could take a big hit next season. If Gallatin gets grouped with the Wilson County schools, they'll bring a crowd, so not that big of a deal. If we get grouped with the Clarksville schools, it will be rough, since they don't travel well. I'd say that is something the AD and coach will look at together.

Will he? I guess time will tell. If he is back, I really hope he does win 8-10. I hope he wins 15. I want success for the program, regardless of who is in charge.

As a GHS alum, supporter, and someone who has been attending Green Wave games for at least 40 years, it is sad to see what a once dominant program has become. Several factors have played into this, but the past decade has been tough to watch. I know there are several Green Wave supporters who post here, but the overall interest in the program has definitely waned. Look no further than the stands at a Friday night home game, and the attendance is probably half of what it was in the 80's & 90's. Family members, students, and die-hard fans are still there, but the casual fans aren't showing up anymore, for whatever reason. The lack of success on the field plays a large part in it, I'm sure. I don't know what the fix is, or if there is one, but I would love to see the Green Wave back on top. I'll continue to support GHS athletics, because I bleed Green & Gold, and my daughter will soon be participating there. But, it would be awesome to see us have a dominant football program again. It just brings so much excitement to the school and town.

Jealousy? Nah, it has nothing to do with that. It’s the fact that the County went overboard with LC. I know new schools will get the latest and greatest everything, and they should, but they took it to the extreme with LC on the County’s dime. All the while, all the other schools in the County have been handed scraps for years. Funding pulled, budgets cut, you name it. This is Dr. Phillips’s crown jewel, and he made sure the County spared no expense. It’s no coincidence that he is stepping down after this school year. And he just happens to be staying on in an advisory role until LCMS is completed. It is also the fact that they are letting the school get away with stuff that no other school in the County can. The softball coach has blatantly recruited a juggernaut, and everybody knows it. At least 2/3 of that roster is out of zone, and she gives private lessons to most of them. That’s an infraction. That’s facts! Thing is Phillips will not let another school in the County turn in another school for infractions. Any complaint to the TSSAA will have to come from a school in another County. It will happen eventually, when they step on the wrong toes.
