  1. Point also taken, but if Dad had an issue with how someone was berating/yelling... or whatever they were doing, then Dad could also go to the admin... I'm not saying the ref couldn't have gone to the AD and had him removed, I'm just saying it's not the ref's job and blame shouldn't be placed on him for it. Dad could control his emotions and realize that guy is probably going to be a stupid jerk regardless if he goes over and knocks him out... But now Dad is in trouble... Gyms can be loud. Not saying he did or didn't, but the ref might not have heard what the guy said. Focus might've been elsewhere. Not a great situation for anybody involved and it's ridiculous that we're anywhere near this kind of space in high school athletics.
  2. Not the refs job to police the stands and the court... Admin's job.
  3. I see more "illegal helmet contact" called than targeting, but the penalty is the same. .... and I see quite a bit of that called.
  4. Although, you could, it's not typical to have an ejection in HS for targeting.
  5. Yeah, the definition is in different section of the rule book... Rule 2 Section 20 Article 2 - Targeting is an act by any player who takes aim and initiates contact against an opponent above the shoulders with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulders.
  6. Rule 9 Section 4 Article 3m - No player or nonplayer shall... target an opponent. 15 yard penalty.
  7. You need to look higher than TSSAA to see where the knee pad rule comes from.... try NFHS...
  8. A lot of kids have a mouth piece in their mouth. They just like the NFL / College look of the "dangling" mouth piece.... for some reason.
  9. It's strange to me that they couldn't just pay all expenses off the top. (Gross amount) - Officials and mileage. - Mileage for road team, set amount per mile. - Maybe a meal per diem for the road team. - Gate Workers, etc. - (Whatever else I'm forgetting...) Then split what's left 3 ways....
  10. Big difference in asking questions or mentioning mistakes vs cursing them & telling them how awful they are. Refs miss calls, coaches make the wrong calls too. Humans brother… all humans.
  11. Desperate times I guess. Maybe everyone should get off their backs or it’s going to get worse & a lot more Thursday games.
  12. When S.Creek played Franklin High there were only 4 officials. A friend of mine is a ref. He said there were 3-4 other games that week that only had 4 officials.
  13. Yes, there are bad officials… but saying there are some that call stuff just to see what they can “get away with?” Maybe 1 out of 1000? These games are filmed & assigners can see the things you are talking about. So, I’ve got my doubts on the conspiracy that guys just call things to see what they can get away with. Officials numbers are down & it’s not gonna get better until pay increases & fans/coaches get off of their backs. There are a lot of guys being thrust onto the field & they aren’t ready… Young guys that could really benefit from running the clock and watching the more experienced dudes run a game. why? because the numbers are down & the guys making the schedule do not have a choice. They either go with the inexperienced guy or go short an officials. I’ve seen it more than once this year at games I’ve been to. Only 4 refs, when there should be at least 5. Ideally there would be 7. That will be the case in the later playoff rounds. But until then — Trial by fire.
