  1. There isn't any doubt that Morgan was outcoached in this game, but Central fans have seen that happen several times in Murfreesboro. Morgan just refuses to stray away from man to man and it has cost the team too many times when it counted. He is a good man and coach and has done very well during his time at Central, but this year was definitely the year we thought he'd have us in the championship game and bringing back the gold ball. This team has been building for a decade and the first round loss stunned the fans and players more than any other loss I can remember. I think he will retire soon.
  2. This isn't the first time Central coach Morgan has taken a very talented team to state and not come home with the gold ball. In 46 years he's won 1 gold ball and something like 6 silver balls. Being state runnerup last year with all the players returning and adding a great freshman this year, Central shouldn't have lost in the first round to a team with no seniors. He's a good coach no doubt, but.....
  3. It was only a couple of weeks ago you said Alcoa would beat Gatlinburg in the region finals Central beat Alcoa by a whole lot more Saturday than Gatlinburg did just a couple of days earlier. Central also did it with Bystry only playing about a half because of foul trouble. Central did it because of two young girls that haven't had to carry the team this year like the two best players. Central is a little deeper than you think when the need arises. Several girls on that team are capable of scoring and that was proven Saturday in the sectionals. Gatlinburg is very good. I still think it will come down to a Central-Gatlinburg matchup for the state championship but either team could also lose in the quarters or semis. Both of their coaches know all too well that you only focus om the next opponent.
  4. I read that York doesn't have any seniors this year, is that true?
  5. Gatlinburg could win by 50-60 points if they wanted, but they will most likely do like Central did when they played Meigs and call off the dogs with the running clock in the 4th qtr. There are some very good matchups in some of these substate games tonight. The AA state tourney games look to be the best to watch this year.
  6. You're forgetting the Kirkpatrick girl who sat out this season with a torn ACL. Depending on the opponent she was the #6 or 7 player coming into games last year as a freshman. She scored a few points in every game and her defense is top notch. She will be a Junior next year. Central will win the district and region again next year.
  7. It looks like a great hire for Meigs. In the long run a better coach than the one that left for Sweetwater, from everything I hear. This year it will be between Central and Tyner. I don't think anyone else can hang with them.
  8. Both Masengale and Bystry are matchup nightmares for any team. And Mayfield can also contribute big time if one of other two are double or triple teamed. There is just too much talent for most AA teams to defend. Their defensive pressure and press is hard for other teams to handle. It will come down to Central or Gatlinburg as to who wins gold. I hope they don't play each other in the first two rounds of state because they're easily the best two teams in AA.
  9. Not many AA teams have the size that AAAA defending state champion Bradley Central does, yet Central took them to overtime this year. Central's depth hasn't been much of a problem this year. The girls are in better shape through conditioning than any team in AA. There have been very few times a contributing starter has fouled out. The AA champions this year will either be Central or Gatlinburg, no question about it. If Morgan can't win it this year he'll never win it again.
  10. Never mind that Coffee is a 4A school and we didn't lose by 30. We had one girl limping and one not feeling well. No excuses because Coffee won that day shooting lights out in the 4th. Never mind that the Bradley team we took to overtime beat Coffee by double digits.
  11. Central won't lose another game this season all the way to Murfreesboro, other than maybe to defending 4A state champ Bradley in Cleveland.
  12. That's too bad. Meigs used to have pride in their girls basketball program.
  13. Sweetwater has dug their own gave when they fired Slover for not starting who a few ignorant parents wanted to start. When Sweetwater lost to Meigs those parents demanded Slover start a freshman qb next game and it all went downhill from there. Those parents got what they wanted and the freshman qb never won a game even playing some bad teams. What coach would want to be there with an administration that listens to a few selfish parents? Their sports programs are going downhill because of a weak administration that won't support good coaches.
  14. McMinn Central will win another gold ball.
  15. I don't think they are that close in talent with Central. If Central had not lost one girl for the season it would not even be a discussion. Central and Gatlinburg play twice this year so that should tell us more. It is hard to win at Gatlinburg with their home grown officials.
  16. I went to the Oakland and Bradley game with a friend who has a son playing for Bradley. All I heard before the game was how good Bradley was and Oakland could not stop Boo and the others on offense. When Oakland starting pounding them the Bear fans starting whining and complaining about the officials. Oakland had several touchdowns called back or they would have mercy ruled the Bears. Bradley people started leaving in the middle of the last quarter when the Bradley players showed they did not want any more of Oakland. It was funny how fast the Bradley fans changed their tune.
  17. Gatlinburg Pittman was by far better than Giles County. Giles is getting used to a running clock when they play Alcoa.
  18. Does Meigs still have the same clown coach? For their sake I hope not. Meigs and Central could switch coaches and Morgan would beat her.
  19. Bradley and Central was a great game. If not for a couple of questionable calls against Central in overtime they would have won.
  20. McMinn Central will win another state championship this year.
