  1. hmmmmm....did you ever see the Steve Martin movie THE JERK?
  2. Go back and read my post very slowly. I have never in all my years heard anyone comment about someone throwing heat unless they were pitching. I'm not saying there isn't a difference between throwing heat and pitching. You've confused other posters in this thread, not just me. Oy yeah, show me where I don't have a clue. I need some edumication from someone who has been around alot of bigtime ball and alot of "all Star" teams.
  3. This is for our friend from Hwy 58 http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerp....aspx?ID=112655
  4. It is goofy because when people talk about heat their generally talking about it from the rubber. Furthermore, Ringgold is not twenty or thirty minutes from Ooltewah. We have played Ringgold on numerous occasions and it was actually considered a rivalry in football as again, we are next door neighbors. You ever heard of Ooltewah-Ringgold Road? You need to venture away from Hwy 58 more often.... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  5. Ignore Hwy 58-Tell him to look Sonny up on Perfect Game where he attended the most prestigious showcase in America last summer. 89 or low 90's? HAHA
  6. Baseball "scholarships" are plentiful if kids want to pay the price, because its a job when you get in college. I believe every kid that has played at Ooltewah the last two seasons has gotten some sort of scholarship. The reason is that just about every college and juco has a baseball program. Furthermore, some kids that could be good college players don't want the "hassle" of having a job in college. I had this discussion with a prominent head baseball coach at a local private school who told me that he has had many players turn down scholarships. A better question might be who is going to sign and SEC scholarship or go DI?
  7. Your buddy 58 Hwy asked a question about "heat" and I posted about a kid in the Chattanooga "area" that has outstanding heat for an eighth grader. I don't understand why it's not germane to this discussion board. There are some readers that actually might find it interesting. Furthermore, if you do a mapquest search you will find that Ringgold and Ooltewah are next door neighbors. Ringgold and Ooltewah usually play during the regular season, so there is a strong liklihood we could play sometime in the distant future.
  8. You need to expand your hoizons, son. It's a big ol' world out there. Get a life and take a break from the computer. Take a chill pill. Take a nap or something. It ain't no big thang to me.
  9. I'm sorry 2-Seam.....it's not like the Times Free Press covers North Georgia, or Stump Martin discusses Geiorgia teams. Oh wait, Stump is from Georgia. Ooltewah will never play the kid... they never play Georgia schools. Hey, believe it or not Georgia is not that far from Hwy 58! http://hcschools.org/ohsowls/athletics/Ool...l/schedule.html
  10. Believe it or not, baseball is played outside Hwy 58....
  11. This kids number are legit. We've played him since he was 9 when he was clocked @ 65. You can trust Perfect Game's numbers. http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerp....aspx?ID=137821
  12. The first baseman you speak of is the Hargrove kid who is a transfer from Ooltewah. You'll enjoy him because he's a real humble kid who caqrries a big stick. He's a lefty who hits with power. He has great parents who are very supportive. What little I know about the other kids mentioned in this thread, they all appear to be good looking athletes. The kid who they call Jar Head can smash the baseball and I believe he did hot a ball over the scoreboard at Ringgold because we played in that tournament. But he wasn't the only player they had on that team as I recall. I think Meigs had some good looking prospects on that team. One was a left handes center fielder and the other was a shortstop who was a good line drive hitter from the lefthand side. We've played with Scotty Moses,Masingill and Smith and they are very talented in their own right.
  13. 98.6 in the classroom is strong IF he is taking the right courses. It all comes down to the ACT/SAT scores. There is a big difference in a 26 ACT and a 28 ACT in terms of scholarship money. We have friend's whose son recently signed with Vanderbilt to play baseball but he scored a 31 on the ACT, so must of the money he got was academic. An SEC school can only give 11 "athletic" scholarships a season, so they try to recruit great students that will qualify for "academic" scholarships. It's a way they can get around the rules, but a player must maintain a 3.0 to keep the academic schollie, while he only has to be on track to graduate to maintain the athletic money. Scouts don't look at stats either.
  14. I am familiar with most of the names you mentioned and you are right about it being a special group. Some of them played for the Smoking Guns several years ago. If you could put those players and a few more on a summer team, they could compete on a national level. I don't know all of them, but Massingill and Moses are excellent pitching prospects. Polk is getting a kid named Hargrove that can hit with anyone. I don't know much about their roster, but if they don't have a senior in front of him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him start at 1st base. He's a big kid that can really wear it out.
  15. unfortunately, i have lost both to bearden and smyrna in the playoffs in the past two seasons. however, i beleive that bearden is the best team the owls have played in the past two years. i know smyrna plays with alot of heart in the playoffs and is led by one of the state's best quarterbacks, sonny gray. it may be ignorant for me to pick againgst the defending state champion but no one hits harder or gives more effort than the bearden bulldogs. these guys are big and they swarm to the football. the hits i can still feel even 3 weeks after the loss. in fact, some of our players are having off season surgery after the bearden game. this game will be a dog fight but i think the way bearden is playing will have them prevail in a close ball game. plus, i would love to say ooltewah lost to the eventual state champion in the playoffs in back to back years.
  16. whites creek has some athletes on both side of the ball especially at the skill position and they run the infamous Wing-T ,option offense. They lack disclipline but they will play hard despite a 5-5 record last season. Ooltewah wins by 21.
  17. on Channel 46 tonight on Comcast Cable in Chattanooga. I think Red Bank is on there as well.
  18. "they haven't lost alot of sophomores this year because several of them are starting". What sense does that make loveshs? Every year, Ooltewah loses tons of sophomores because they don't want to pay their dues or they decide to specialize in another sport. Ryan Jones who plays baseball for UT was a tremendous wr prospect for the Owls as a frosh. Jake Young would be starting as a linebacker right now had he not chosen to give up football. Colton Trew would be plaing alot of wr as he has the body and speed to have been another Jenson Morgan. He too decided to specialize in baseball. If you don't think there are tons of talented football players roaming the halls at Ooltewah, you are sadly mistaken. Every year you have 40 or 50 players on the freshman roster. What do you think happens by the time they make varsity? Ooltewah could take a team from the student body at large and clobber the likes of Silverdale and Grace. Heck, Young and True would be all state as juniors at Silverdale.
  19. Most schools don't have the numbers or the resources to field freshmen and jv teams. Most feel that having a jv team is more beneficial(if you have to choose). I understand that Bradley County does not have a freshman team this year. I think the larger problem is keeping the players interested after their frosh season. Ooltewah has lost alot of sophs thru the years that were good freshmen players. Maybe a full jv schedule would keep them interested?
  20. Thanks for coming on and clearing the air, Ryan! You've always been a winner and had the heart of a champion! Good luck in your future endeavors as I'm sure you will be a great success....
  21. nobody is name calling anyone! Both of those kids were 5'6" at the most. That is a fact. It's also a fact that Coach Monroe told them that they were too short to play cornerback. This is common knowledge verifiable with the father's of both of the young men. Both of these boys are no longer with the program and have graduated and moved on. Nobody is posting anything about a current player and naming names. You also have to realize that the demographics have changed dramatically at Ooltewah in the last three years. It only takes a quick look at the game program to know what I'm talking about. Hunter and Ryan were both blessed with extra-ordinary speed at that time. There is no question that Ooltewah's team speed has taken a quantum leap in the last three years. The point is that these coaches pay close attention to weight room numbers, sprint numbers, and size numbers. If you're small, you better be Ryan Williams,Hunter Hydas, or Sean Sanders fast or you will not be a back at Ooltewah and even then you're role will be limited. Ooltewah is just a huge school with huge talent pool. You could literally field a team from the student body of former players who would beat the Silverdale's and Grace Academy's.
