Now that Bumper's officially been named baseball coach at Signal, it is, like the Chatta. paper said, a "win win." Bumper is going, and taking his sons to an all-white school, and will coach against smaller, less powerful schools than he had to at RB. So he gets everything he wants. And the kids at Signal will get an easy economics "teacher" who will talk sports in class. They will love that. Signal has some tough teachers, so those students will need an easy class once a day. And Red Bank will have a chance to hire a coach who will clean up its baseball program, and maybe finally go to the state. Congrats to all !

Glad to see Coach Reese go. Year after year, he had the talent, but his teams never reached their potential. Politics, favoritism, poor coaching decisions. Always a lot of drama. He will definitely fit in better at Signal Mountain. Bye Bye Bumper, and don't come back.

This is ridiculous. There's a 20 percent chance of rain in Chattanooga on Friday. There's MORE of a chance of rain on Thursday. What's the REAL reason so many coaches are insisting on moving their games? Someone needs to investigate.

I heard that Red Bank Coach Tim Daniels has discovered he played an ineligible player all year, so the team's record is officially 0-4 instead of 7-4. Is there more to it than that? Who's the player? What happened?

Worst kept secret in Chattanooga is finally out. No surprise to anyone familiar with the situation. He had almost an all-senior team at Notre Dame, and the team fizzled badly at playoff time. ND lost almost every starter (and pitcher) to graduation. He had very little coming back to ND, and next year would have been a total rebuilding year.

This is nothing new for Red Bank. It's been going on for years. A well-known position player from a couple of years ago, never "slept" within the RBHS zone. His family was zoned for a neighboring school, and sent various children through Red Bank, mostly athletes. They rented some cheap apartment to make it "legal" but never, ever lived there. The coach and principal just looked the other way, and everyone knew about it. And that's just one example. Red Bank certainly isn't alone in doing this, but they're among the most experienced, and they always get away with it. Having said that, good luck to Walden. Hope he does well with UT.

Discipline and leadership start at the top. Hixson has poor leadership. That's why the school's reputation has taken a dive during the past couple of years. Some of Hixson's fans and parents have pitched in by giving the school a bad name during this week's tournament. For some reason, the Coach just looks the other way....

Hixson will wish it had saved Colton Green for the Notre Dame game. Sam Eberle hit a home run against CCS Saturday that was probably the longest ever hit at Hixson.

I see where Ooltewah got shut out Thursday by Notre Dame. What's going on at the nest? This used to be one of the strongest programs in the state, at a school with 900 boys to choose from to field a baseball team, and great youth rec and middle school feeder programs. Where did everyone go?

"Eberle's second time up; he hit into an easy Double Play" LOL....that was one of the hardest hit balls of the night, almost taking the pitcher's head off. Credit to the pitcher for making a good, quick reflex play. But I'm sure he would tell you, it wasn't "easy." And yep, that's my two cents. Walking Eberle, "intentional" or not, saved the game for MC. And that's smart baseball. Even in the majors, you don't let a superstar beat you.

Smart move by the Marion coach and pitcher walking Eberle in the bottom of the 6th when he was the tying run, even with a runner on first. I don't blame them, I would be afraid to pitch to him too, in that situation. Congrats to the Warriors. Smart baseball, good win.

Notre Dame should win, easily. The Irish have come up with some hitters to support Sam Eberle. Teams that pitch to Eberle usually end up chasing the baseball about 50 feet over the centerfield fence. Teams that don't give Eberle anything to hit are learning that the guys behind him can hit too. I don't think Marion will pitch to Eberle, but he'll come around and score a few times anyway.

Sad but true. Red Bank's regular season schedule is pretty weak. As usual, Maryville is the first real competition they've faced all year.

Soddy-Daisy is years away from being competitive at a district level, much less state. The Trojans have pretty good size, but little speed or athleticism. A good middle school or feeder school team is nice to brag about, but that sometimes means little in the years to come. Guys drop out, get fat, lose interest, have bad grades, you name it. Hiring Tom Weathers was a poor move four years ago. He was a good coach "back in the day," and is a quality person. But he hasn't accomplished much since Red Bank in 2000, and that was all Gerald Riggs (who ironically enough, hasn't accomplished much since then either). Everybody knew Tom was at SD because he was getting humiliated by losing constantly in Georgia, needed to get out of a bad situation, and wanted to pad his retirement (can't blame him for that). But he was obviously not at SD to build a program, or to stay for the long run. He's just too old for that. It is a mystery to many Chattanooga area fans, however, that a school with 1700 students, presumably about 850 of them male, can't find enough decent football players to do better than 2-8. You don't expect SD to beat a Red Bank, a smaller school with more gifted athletes. But there's no excuse for losing badly to teams more on SD's level. A good young coach with a disciplined weight program and some talent in teaching fundamental skills might get the Trojans to a 5-5 or 6-4 record within 2 or 3 years.

Good news and bad news. Good news, is Bearden is the better team and deserved to win. Bad news is, Ooltewah players now have nothing to do on Friday nights.

Almost everyone I know has said, "It wouldn't have been handled this way at MY high school." And that is so true. The media haven't twisted anyone's words, as Monroe has made his feelings known more than once to more than one reporter. The best thing Foster and Monroe could have done is to hold a press conference, and make it clear that players (and other students) would be suspended and held accountable, and that OHS would not tolerate disorder, thuggery, and bullying. But instead they have largely stayed hidden, coming out every now and then to pout and sulk, and complain about those pesky North Georgia cops. Have either of them expressed any concern for the injured victims? Have the "punished" students done any fundraising to help with their medical bills? Seems like that would be appropriate "community service."

Yep, they'll play Friday. Wearing the school jerseys, representing Ooltewah High School. I bet Coach Monroe hopes the Walker County deputies will be along the sidelines. I would like to salute the 2 Ooltewah students who have had the decency and common sense to turn themselves in since Friday. What's the deal with the other 5? They are officially "wanted" in Walker County. Do the powers that be at OHS not realize, the sooner they deal with this, the sooner it will go away?

Steve Logsdon at Bradley Central handled his team's situation perfectly. Monroe dropped the ball on this early, and is still sticking his foot into his mouth. I can't believe Ed Foster has allowed this to happen on his watch.
