    McGavock

I agree with you, but there are a lot of teams in 12AAA that could end up winning it. I hope we will be in the running, but there will be strong competition in our district. Who knows, but I will agree with you, McGavock has the players to do it!
  3. The NBA is setting a bad example for our youth. I never watch the NBA. I guess I am too old school, but I am all about team and not individuals acting crazy. Sorry, but I will always be old school where there is admiration for your opponent's ability and there is really a team concept. High school basketball is the purest basketball there is. That is why I love it.
  4. Sorry I haven't gotten back with you Tates, but I have a little problem with my heart again. Looks like another angioplasty in a week. But on the subject of getting players in condition; we run a lot in practice and at the end. Our guys know what is coming when they come into our program. We run anywhere from 15 to 20 suicides in 30 sec. each, almost everyday. Right now, Coach Hayes is running the boys twice a week. You cannot get all of the running in drills and scrimmage, because they will loaf a little. In this they will not have to put out all the way every time. In timed suicides they will have to put out all the time. It seems to work but everyone has their own way. Thanks, but there is no one way.
  5. Thanks for the thought, but coaches are the last on the totem pole. Just what do coaches do in the schools? I can think of about a hundred things. Get real, people don't care anymore!
  6. I think our kid Bubba Taylor would be in consideration if we played him at pt. guard. Bubba will probably play the #2 guard this year, but will also play some pt. guard. He has proven to be with the best in the state. Maplewood Panthers all the way. Hopefully, ha.
  7. The reason some high school coaches do not get connected with the AAU coach is because they feel threatened. I for one do not feel threatened at all. I want all the help with my players that I can get. I know that in my program I have seen vast improvement in the guys from AAU. I just do not see a problem with high school and AAU. Sorry???
  8. McGavock is the team to beat in 12AAA: believe me???
  9. Thanks for the kind remarks about our team. I feel pretty good about this year. I think by the end of the year that we may be pretty tough - at least I hope so. This is definitely my last year for coaching at Maplewood, but I really love this bunch. Every year there is gonna be someone you hate to leave, but you know I have given 22 years of my life to the kids at Maplewood - and loved every minute, but after 33 years of coaching basketball, I believe it is time. The school day is getting very tough, not the coaching , which is a joy. I love my fans, my parents of the kids, and my players. I always support the 'Wood. As for Mr. Taylor, Bubba's dad, I could not want a better parent of a young man on my team. The support he has given me is outstanding and I really apprecitate it. Gomab, I thank you for recognizing our team. Thanks again.
  10. Barry is 6'8"; I just measured him about 3 weeks ago. Unless he has grown 2" in 3 weeks, ha.
  11. Heck, I rank him #1. There is no one I would rather have, period! Course, I know him better than anyone, I believe. I am his coach, ha.
  12. What about Stratford with Richard Campbell and Gerald Johnson coaching the Spartans ? Coach Campbell's team was picked 7th out of 8. He lost a close one to Hunters Lane (5A) and beat Wilson Central 48-0. I believe a great job has been done. What do you think?
  13. Bubba Taylor - Maplewood Barry Gardner - Maplewood Henry Harris - Stratford [Edited by PantherGam on 9-11-02 7:58P]
  14. I am really sad for Coach Thompson. He is, from all reports, a good coach. I wish him the best of luck the rest of the season. I know he is doing all that can be done. It takes a lot to turn a program around. Keep your chin up coach, we are behind you 100%.
  15. Doc who? Doc Shelton applied??
  16. The new Vandy looks worse than the old Vandy. I am amazed at the calibur of athlete that Vandy is getting. I really do not believe they could win the SunBelt. Coach Johnson is going to have to open up his offense, but you know what, he can't because he doesn't have any premier specialty players. This team is doomed to the cellar. GT was not as good as the SEC teams that he will play. Sorry, but it is not the same old Vandy; it is worse!
  17. I think you may be the answer to Overton. Hope you get the job.
  18. Hey, Cobra, let's deal with 2002-2003 first, ha. It should be a good one!
  19. Jeff McKnight of Maplewood, if he gets any blocking!
  20. I can tell you this, McGavock is fit for bear this year. I believe they will be the team to beat. I also, believe that Stratford will be good, especially towards the end of the season. Whites Creek will be very competitive always. Glencliff is a mystery, who knows???
  21. Shadow, no I haven't heard a word. Can you give me any insight into what is going on? Sure could use some help. Thanks
  22. Well, I haven't heard a thing. I think Gerald Johnson applied also. I don't think I have a chance. I also believe there is someone in Lebanon that they are talking to. I don't expect to get an interview. As you know, things are political, records don't count, ha.
  23. I agree with gbaby on the rankings. I think McGavock has got to be the favorite to win in Nashville. I do not know much about the midstate in general, but I know McGavock has almost everyone back on a team that was the runner-up in the 12AAA tournament last year. Antioch will be very hard to beat , also. Glencliff, hmm, I am unsure of. Whites Creek will always be good, as long as Nollner stays there. I also think that Stratford will be good by tournament time and maybe even Hunters Lane.
