  1. An out, 2 innings, then 2 outs is 4 innings. 7 today illegal pitcher
  2. District 2-AA Softball This tourney bracket is all messed up, and the TSSAA had to make a ruling as to just who is seeded where. South Greene had to forfeit three district games, and it was determined Wednesday that Pigeon Forge is also having to forfeit some games for the same reason that South Greene did: some team members participated on a recreation league slowpitch team. A play-in game between Chuckey-Doak and Cumberland Gap is set for today at the Black Knight field. First round games will then be played at the home field of the higher seed on Friday or Saturday. Rutledge is the regular season champ. West Greene is seeded No. 2 and will host Claiborne. South Greene is seeded No. 5 and will go to Union County. The final four go to Pigeon Forge for double-elimination tourney play.
  3. If anything the Lady Devils lack. It is a team leader. Nobody has seen the real Unicoi County team because they get a 4 or 5 run lead the subs start going in.The bats that should be helping them right now have spent a 1/3rd of the season riding the cinders. The upperclassman need to talk to your coach and tell him how you feel. It is time to start leaving you in the game and send out some statements to other teams. You don't want your last home game ending the way it did with the Seniors on the bench instead of on the field. Seniors should never come out for subs for no reason. This is your year. No need to work on next years team at your expense.
  4. All up to the defense. They will score runs but they can't give extra 2 or 3 outs a game. Time to put the best 9 on the field and leave them there.
  5. results are in: Lady Devils 14 Sullivan Central 0
  6. Is there any place where Official TSSAA high school sports standings are kept? District links or whatever. Somebody other than the teams must have the results. Looking for district 1,2,3,4 up to date standings.
  7. Saw fritz at the game today. What kind of excuse will it be this time. A great game Unicoi County and Science Hill. Kellye Lingerfelt started the bottom half of the 7th inning with a double and scored the the winning run on Emily Bennetts 2 out hit giving the Lady Devils a 1-0 win over Science Hill. Jessica Mason pitched another great game for Unicoi County. Finally an errorless game for UC.
  8. Unicoi County rode an 8 run 1st inning enroute to a 5 inning 11-0 win over Elizabethton. Bet game gets a big write up by Doug F. this time. Centrals 2nd supposedly rain out was really because #1 pitcher on team quit and #2 was out of town. Only game in upper East Tennessee that was rained out. If the game doesn't make a difference in district Central will never play the game. They know what is coming.
  9. Yep. Said rain but second time was because one pitcher quit and another was out of town.So the excuse field was wet was used.
  10. 1. What good is having a flex player when the coach takes turns sitting the starters. Doesn't do much good to add a weak bat into the line up in place of a strong bat. 2. Does it hurt a team never having the same 9 on the field together for more than 2 innings a game? 3. How much batting practice should a player get a day? And does it hurt to use a pitching machine during the season? 4. How much does the starters to need play to get ready for post season? 5. How much does a coach not having confidence in a player affect the player?
  11. Any luck from Unicoi County yet. Weaver will probably sign with Coastal Carolina basketball. Edwards is really throwing good now and I don't think has really decided. You know what is going on with KL that could bring Bennett there next year. Several sophs you better keep watch on.Especially Hopson the catcher great arm and super power already 4 homeruns this year and probably the best 3rd baseman in East Tennessee in Stephenson.Super glove, strong arm, quick reaction time and incredible ball release speed. Then there is Mason. You just have to watch this freshman.
  12. Can a player play 8th grade middle school ball and get promted to 9th grade. Instead of going to 9th grade he goes out of state to a private school and repeats 8th grade. Technically which is being held back. Then return to Tennessee and start as a 9th grader.
  13. Tommorows news today A win for Dad: Peterson's Lady Panthers win Roger Peterson trophy as Eastman champs Monday, April 18, 2005 By BILLY DIXON Times-News KINGSPORT - Powell coach Heather Peterson found the ultimate way to honor her father. She took home the trophy named for him. The Lady Panthers overcame a seventh-inning deficit and avenged their only loss in the tournament by beating Jefferson County 5-4 in nine innings in the championship game of the 2005 Kingsport/Eastman Invitational softball tournament. The first-place trophy is awarded in honor of Peterson's father, Roger Peterson, who was one of people responsible for putting the tourney together nine years ago. The elder Peterson, an Eastman employee and the tournament's first director, died two years ago. "It means more to me to win this tournament than anything except maybe the state," Peterson said. "It's going to make me cry to say it, but he's the reason we come up here. To win it is a great feeling." For most of the game, it was looking more like a case of what might have been. The Lady Panthers had a chance to score in the first inning, but failed to take advantage of a leadoff two-base error. It was the last chance they would get off Jeff County pitcher Ashley Whitehead until the seventh inning. That's when the complexion of the game changed completely. Until that point, the Lady Patriots first-inning run appeared it would stand up. With one out and the game on the line, however, Powell's Sam Kooch drew a walk. Brittany Butcher followed with a single and Heather Broyles found her way on via error. Alyssa Armentrout then delivered the big blow - a two-run double. Powell tacked on one more run for a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom half. The Lady Patriots proved up to the task. Stephanie Smith singled to lead off, Katy Jett reached on an infield single and Lynnsey Jett doubled home both runners to tie the game at 3. Peterson called on Broyles, her second pitcher, to get her team out of the jam. Broyles did that - and a little bit more. After both teams scored single runs under international rules in the eighth, inning Broyles doubled home Kooch in the ninth to provide what proved to be the game-winner. The Patriots threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but Broyles got two strikeouts and coaxed Lynnsey Jett into a flyout to end the game. "Heather is a tough pitcher," Peterson said. "I can bring in either pitcher for the other at any time because they are both good and they are completely different. "I knew Heather was going to be ready to get the job done when I made the decision to go with her. She's just mentally tough." Powell (18-3) lost its only game of the tournament 2-1 to Jefferson County during pool play. "My kids have a lot of heart," Peterson said. "We battled. The team we have this year, if we play like we can, we can win." Sarah Wilson had three hits to lead Jeff County, while Katy Jett had a pair of singles. In other place games, Morristown East claimed third with yet another power display. The Lady Hurricanes beat Cleveland 13-3 behind three more home runs. For the tournament, East launched nine balls over the fence. In the fifth-place game, Science Hill edged Tennessee High 3-2 in eight innings. Amanda Raider bunted home Melissa Young for the winning run. Britani Fisher had a two-run double for the Lady Hilltoppers. For the Lady Vikings, Kara Faidley had two RBI hits. Cherokee also needed extra innings to claim seventh place with an 8-7 win over Knox Central in eight. Sara Laroy scored on a squeeze bunt from Gaby Murrell to end the game.
  14. In the Eastman tournament Unicoi County won 2 and lost 3. Pitchers pitched really well but defense kills you. Out of the 15 runs Unicoi County gave up in 5 games only 2 of them were earned. They had commited 9 throwing errors at last count and at least 7 fielding errors. They are a lot younger than people think. The line-up this weekend included 2 senoirs [Weaver on a recruiting trip], 1 junior, 6 Sophmores with flex player and 1 freshman. By tournament time these young ladies will be real hard to handle. From what I hear Eliz. was bit the by fumbling bug also going 1-3 in the tourament.
  15. Monday April 11 Unicoi County 5 Dobyns Bennett 0 Mason With another stellar performance. Devils hit ball well but right at somebody.
  16. Edwards threw like her old self Saturday. she threw a 5 inning perfect game against Rhea County in the 11-0 Devils win. She then came back and pitched 7 strong innings in the final against Cherokee that the Devils won 7-2 with both runs unearned.Edwards helped herself with a her 2nd home run of the season. In the semi-final game Mason pitched another great game against Tennessee High with the Devils winning 1-0. Talking of young players the Lady Devils starting line up consists of a freshman, 4 sophmores and 1 junior. Hopson 3, Bennett, Love ,Mason and Edwards 2 have all gone yard so far this year. By seasons end this team will be hard to handle after all the injuries and off season surgeries heal.
