  1. How did West do at the University High Jamboree in Johnson City this past weekend?
  2. What you consider a stupid statement (poor choice of words in a mannerly discussion) is actually an attempt to point out the rules to protect the players are inadequate - and yes, even frivalous when put in context as to the severity of the sequellae of a head injury. But you are correct in stating any rule to protect a player in any way is a good rule. In that vain, as a ref, I hope you push forward in the efforts to require head gear to prevent what I consider one of the top 2 most serious injuries (neck is the other) possible in soccer. In the mean time, go boldly forward and give those yellow cards out in an effort to protect our girl's earlobes.
  3. As I said - "almost needing a hospital visit" means it was not a serious injury. I have seen more brain injuries (concussions) in soccer than bleeding scalps or torn earlobes - and I have seen many soccer games - but do you have any idea of the severity of these "minor head injuries"? Probably not, since they only manifest themselves further down the road of life and you have know way of knowing. The scalp "bleeding like a stuck pig" for 5 minutes gets more attention than the 40 future years of inadequate brain function due to the concussion no one thought twice of.
  4. You are missing my point. I am not advocating not enforcing the removal of the aforementioned items. Of course they are a possible cause of injury. I am trying to point out the how ludicrous it is not to require the use of head gear in soccer. Of course earrings, hair pins, wrist bands, etc are dangerous - I am not disputing that - what I do feel strongly about is the cavalier attitude concerning the lack of attention concerning the need for head protection. Don't take this personally. I just take care of too many kids with brain dysfunction due to head injuries in sports including soccer.
  5. Anyone who knows anything about scalp injuries knows even minor ones bleed like stink and look horrible for a few minutes then stop. The fact that it "almost needed a hospital visit" means it wasn't serious. We should discourage the use of cleats since they can do exactly the same thing. I would be more concerned about this players concussion (yes she suffered one) rather than the minor scalp laceration.
  6. So I go back to my original statement which you took offense to - it's PC and frivolous to require the removal of earrings and not require head gear. The problem is no one has the guts to require the use of headgear.
  7. No, I'm not being funny - I'm serious. Ever see a kids head split open because no head gear was required? Let's put this stuff into the correct perspective. What's more important to you - your kid's brain or his/her earlobe?
  8. So true... Maybe the answer is not "if you think you can do better, take the test and become a ref" but less people taking the test. There are a lot of things I don't do ( Ref, Brain surgery, etc.) because I know my talents and limitations. I would not make a good ref so I won't take the test in an effort not to "dilute the gene pool".
  9. So PC - why are we so concerned about bobby pins, ear rings and bracelets?
  10. East TN looks strong in AAA. And to think there are a couple of East TN teams looking in from the sidelines that could have gone all the way makes it more impressive.
  11. http://knoxnews.com/news/2007/oct/28/beard...et/?prepxtra=1/ Interesting synopsis on the wind as a factor in the outcome.
  12. A tough group to replace. #23 made All -State as a Sophmore at MF and would have repeated last year except she played 3 different positions (all well) last year.
  13. Poor form. But to answer your question - I doubt it. This game was very different (i.e. the level of officiating) compared to last year's. You won, you deserve some bragging rights but don't carry that swagger too long.
  14. No, it was Greeneville who was flat the first meeting between these 2 a few weeks ago. Last evening was more indicative of Greeneville's game. By the way, Greeneville started a Freshman goalie (her first start) and she did great. After last years heartbreaker, Greeneville came to play and I think Bearden was just a little worried the entire game. It was a well played, well officiated game. Bearden earned the win. Greeneville wishes them well at States
  15. Greeneville is a Bi-polar team - great one game and flat the next. If they can get their heads together and concentrate on last year's sectional game with Bearden and not this year's blow-out, it could be a very good game. If they come in on the down side of their bi-polar disease it wont be pretty. Without a doubt, they've got the talent to be the spoiler - just depends on which team shows up.
  16. He really does look like Mr. Bean! And he has no clue what off-sides in soccer means.
  17. Lets just play Darwinien Soccer - get rid of the officials, anything goes and only the strong survive. Soccer is no different than any sport utilizing subjective officiating/judging. It is part of the sport like it or not. At lest soocer has some rules for the officials to rely on. Many sports are decided soley on the subjective opinion of an individual judge or group of judges. That is even harder to swallow when your competing do your best then get screwed because the judge dosen't like your politics or haircut. There is no answer to the problem. A team, coach or player must quickly adjust to the flavor of the officiating - good/bad/ugly/incompetent/tight calls/loose calls/no calls - and play accordingly.
  18. Why does it give Region 1 some hope? I don't think it matters who Greeneville or Science Hill plays. As far as Greeneville goes, Farragut or Oak Ridge would be a wash. GV beat Farragut in pre-season and lost the first game of regular season by 3-1 but the game was much closer than the score indicates being tied most of the game and then GV scored an own-goal with about 30 seconds left. GV and OR tied in a very tough game played well by both teams. The earlier game this year with Bearden was a 7-0 blowout but some of the girls would love a chance to avenge last years heartbreak loss to Bearden in sub-state and also show that Bearden is not a 7 goal better team. Oak Ridge is a very good team. The road to States for Region 1 goes through Knoxville and its never been an easy trip. It wont be any different this year vs Bearden or OR.
  19. Please keep this thread only for scores and brief info concerning the game you are reporting.
  20. And DB ranked above GV??? DB did well at a weak tourny this weekend but look at their opponents W-L-T compared to Greeneville's - no comparison. Anyway - I'm glad Coach Calvert is doing well at DB - he's a class act and great coach.

  22. I am Greeneville fan- also a South Greene fan and also a CD fan as you can see by one of my posts in 2005 below. I enjoy and support all soccer in Greene County and East TN. My only agenda here is I felt the thread was started under false pretenses. Since that may not to be the case, lets move on to address the intent of the thread. soccer67 View Member Profile Add as Friend Send Message Find Member's Topics Find Member's Posts Oct 14 2005 - 01:47 PM Post #10 Competitor Group: CoachT+ Posts: 255 Joined: May 7, 2005 Member No.: 78,468 QUOTE(kristicdsoccer9 @ Oct 14 2005 - 12:18 PM) We have to play some weaker teams such as the ones in our district. That is unavoidable. Coach Ricker does schedule us harder games such as tennesse high and sullivan...ah I forget which sullivan we played. But she has tried to schedule more tougher teams, but we have to play what we have to play. And the University High game, we were having team problems, but we are back to ourself. We are district champs. One championship down, two to go. For all you critics you'll see how we do. And by the way we have an excellent coach Absolutely no crtiticism from this Greeneville fan. You ladies have done an excellent job and Greene County is proud of you. Congrats on your district title and the season thus far. Keep playing hard. Also, as a bit of information to those of you on this forum, Chuckey-Doak lost one of it's players in a tragic car accident this past week which I'm sure weighed heavy on their minds in the last 2 games. They certainly deserve our respect as a class act.
  23. To woodeng: I don't really care if you are a little annoyed - so am I. As I said, if you are who you say you are then I apoligized. The only thing I'm touchy about is false intentions but I guess some have decided that is not the case. And no I don't think I know who you are but I am curious, what country are you in if you don't mind sharing that.
  24. I gave him some pertinent information. I also was suspicious. The boards are loaded with threads started by people claiming to someone other than who they really are in an attempt to prop up a particular team or player; to start a controversy; or to just get themselves some pats on the back. I thought it strange that the thread would be started a month after the mentioned jamboree and days after a couple of wins. I may be wrong. If woodeng is truely who he says he(or she) is and has the credentials stated then I sincerly apoligize to him/her. But let me say this - good teams and players do it quietly on the field not on the message boards. They schedule the toughest competion in order to test and improve (and prove) themselves. As a side note - a small school that I feel is deserving of pat on the back and our admiration is South Greene High. It is a small rural school that breathes basketball 24/7. The soccer program was started a year ago by some dedicated players and parents. They have no field and must practice on the baseball outfield. They are unable to practice corner kicks due to the field size constraints. They are winless but play their hearts out. Props to them and I'll pop a cork when they get that first win. Good luck to Chuckey Doak - make it another successful season. Nothing would make me happier than a couple of Greene County schools at States.
