  1. interesting to note that a number of names are duplicates off the list from the Div II All Region selections on another thread. Shows that there are at least other people who agree with the choices.
  2. Agreed. All invited should be listed. Coaches have to nominate, only coaches that are members can nominate and so therefore many girls from other teams get overlooked. As far as comment about other girls that should have been invited, that is something that should be taken up with the coach from their team. If they were nominated by a coach other than their own then it is their opinion of what they have seen of that player either in a game against his/her team or information that they have. I say that to say that a player can be nominated by someone other than their coach who has seen them play so if in their opinion they deserved the invitation, they could receive it one of those two ways which is my understanding of how the program has worked.
  3. Like DonC said, it could be she had an off game when I saw her play - if I have seen her play. Either that or she could be young. I have been heavily involved in this region for the past eleven years and if she is a freshman, that might explain it OR I just passed her up for another player that might be more well rounded and talented..... could that be it? Please, do tell ! - If I wrote everyone that I thought had a good reputation previously or that might be on the scene now, the list would last forever. I took the best players off each team. Some teams have more because they have better players. Baylor for example had alot, but their record and talent warrant that....they show a class act on the pitch too. Never heard a foul mouth on any of them. Notre Dame had alot, again, extremely talented. A little rougher around the edges on the mouth, but nothing I haven't heard before....Soddy and CCS as well had a number of talented players represented and they are great teams in their divisions...I tried to round it out. Didn't put much for the Owls....maybe that is why your feathers are ruffled. Or, let me guess - MVM stands for Middle Valley Majic which would put you as a Hixson or Soddy parent - the world may never know your true identity. Unless of course, we figure out who the MVP selection player is that you refer to and it will lead back to you. Anyone want to pull the mask off? Apology "accepted" ~ Right back at ya. It's all in the spirit of the game anyway. Like I said, I will try to keep my opinions to myself next time this firestarting topic rolls around. Afterall this is exhausting!
  4. hmmmm. Is that all the players who have scored ON Baylor (against Taylor Davidson) ! OR: All the players on Baylor that scored.... kind of confusing post. And MVM ~ THAT would be rose colored glasses....depending on the outcome of the question above /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  5. my bad for trying.... obviously I am not as qualified as some of the posters in this thread, or so they think. Thanks DonC for recognizing that I cannot possibly see every game in town, that would be physically impossible for me since.... well, never mind "since"...... and yes, Carrie Lieper was a miss. Her enthusiasm and hard work is contagious to her teammates. My opinions come from years of watching this group of girls play the field. I have heard their mouths, I have seen their characters. That was ONE area that I chose to make sure to include in MY OPINION of selections.....Enough said. I will remain silent and keep my opinions to myself. MVM - you state that I left off some MVP selections.... would you elaborate, please. I would like it to go down in the record for their sake. As I stressed at the beginning of my blog, this was my humble opinion. Thanks Flash for coming to my defense. oh, and MVM.... just for the record, I don't wear glasses when I watch a game.... rose colored or any other color for that matter. I can't ! Enough said on that one, too! Correct me if I am wrong or if I pushed your buttons by not mentioning your daughter. I find it hard to understand why the other posters in the other regions that are listing things like this in their opinion aren't getting trashed. hmmmm..... the world may never know!
  6. IMHO..... here goes ... @ least for the greater Chattanooga area : Alpha order ~ All State: Kris Cambron - Senior - Notre Dame - Striker Danielle Ciabattone - Junior - Notre Dame Mid Taylor Davidson - Senior - Keeper - Baylor Emily Jones - Junior - Cleveland - Striker Claire Lanter - Senior - Def Center Back - Soddy Daisy Sarah Mastey - Sophomore (?) GPS - Striker Josie Rix - Senior - GPS - Mid/Def Center Carissa Sanchez - Junior - Baylor - Def Center Caroline Scales - Senior - Baylor - Mid Leah Wilson - Senior - Keeper - CCS Kameshia Woodfine - Senior - Baylor - Striker 2nd team: Darcy Brannen - Senior - Notre Dame - Mid Bonnie Buckley - Sophomore(?) Silverdale - Mid (?) Hannah Farlett - Junior (?) CCS - Mid (?) Sarah Gawthrop - Senior - Baylor - Mid Elizabeth Gier (sp?) - Senior(?)-Soddy - Mid Logan Mays - Senior - CCS - Striker Katelyn McChesny - Sophomore - Cleveland (Mid?) Alex Stevenson - Senior - Cleveland - Mid Kelsy Swann - Senior - Soddy Daisy - Mid *some of this is from memory and I am getting old so please correct any info that is wrong* Within the scope of my opinion, let me say a few comments to support these "thoughts": I think that it is important to consider a number of factors when assessing a player's talent. You need to look at players contribution to the game and realize that the game is played on the entire field. Most of these players aren't always on the "scoring" side of the game, but rather make an overall contribution to the team's success. Josie Rix, for example, spent most of the season playing in the defensive third, as did Carissa Sanchez from Baylor. Their contribution to distributing balls with precision, maintaing the defensive shape of the field, and the maturity of the being so versatile need to be commended. Yes, you have to assign them a position in the roster, but in reality players like those two along with Darcy Brannen (ND), Alex Stevenson (Cleveland) and Sarah Gawthrop (Baylor) make a contribution no matter where you put them on the field. These are girls that play the entire 90 minutes and coaches rely on them without all the hoopla attention /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Danielle Ciabattone from Notre Dame is another one of those players. You could put her in on the strike line all the way back to the defensive line, and she is going to be consistenly good and solid. It isn't always the flashiest player on the team that should get your attention, as a spectator.... It should be the strong, consistent and versatile players that COULD be scoring the goals, but have given themselves over the glory of the team instead of individual glory. That is not to say that the numbers don't count, look at Emily Jones (Cleveland) for example, with 40+ goals this season or Logan Mays (prior to injury downtime) or even Kelsey Swann (SD) who have both amassed countless goals in their four years. Granted, some people will say that numbers can be run up, depending on competition, but you have to give players like that credit for their skill and work ethic. Without a doubt, the keeper votes go to the top keepers in this region, probably in the state other than Rebecca Toler from Collierville. Wilson has proven herself time and time again and Davidson from Baylor has one of the lowest GA in the state. (doesn't hurt that her back line is tough as nails) I am sure all over the state there are parents and coaches that could make a list such as this. I think it is nice to see it at a glance by city.... anyone else want to take a shot at it...Franklin, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville~~ care to take a stab at listing your best votes for candidates for All State. At best, they will surely be supported by the area's spectators and if you are lucky enough to have a Best of The Preps in your area, it would be fun to see how many on your list make it for the city wide talent pool. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> It's been a great year.... and seniors - thanks for the memories. Will will miss your leadership and talent on and off the pitch ! Sorry so long of a post....I got long winded.
  7. Gotta mention Josie Rix - She played an outstanding game and lead her teammates by example to keep fighting. The Baylor girls played well.... not the best game ever, but consistently solid, with class. A shout out should go to Sydney Parks for her game.... she laid it all out there tonight and created some wonderful opportunties ..... A few questionable calls on behalf of the yellow team on the field.....hand balls to gain advantage and some poor decisions that could have been costly for either team. The issuing of a yellow card at the end of the game was a result of his inability to keep the teams focused on soccer. I personally think it was out of frustration that the GPS defensive player kindof lost her cool.... like I said, it was near the end of the game and she was without the covering of Rix since coach B sent Josie up to try and create an attack after Baylor scored.....good coaching tactic, just didn't work this time. Got to hand it to GPS, we expected to hand them worse of a loss tonight.... way to play girls! For the record, Chattanoogan.com named the lone goal scorer incorrectly - should be McKensie Thomas.....a very talented freshman who played well tonight. Fans were out in numbers though....mostly loud McCallie boys !
  8. The Baylor squad is stacked at all positions. Would have to say that the only opportunity for GPS to net one would have to be from far out shots by Josie Rix. They (Baylor) are calm and composed on defensive end and with Scales, Woodfine and Gawthrop mixing it up the mid and strike line they are just as solid on the attack. They are patient, which is a quality not often seen in girls of this age. If GPS coach plays Josie too far up, they will definitely capitalize on the mistakes of GPS's back line. My prediction would be for Baylor to win by two, probably on one of their restarts or corners. Advantage to GPS however will go to home fans and field.....Baylor usually doesn't have much of a following at away games. Should be a great game with two great teams filled with class act parents, players and coaches.
  9. Maybe if Baylor coach puts in Hudson as QB we might see the win.... he has gotten the raw end of the deal IMHO this season. He is more composed and more of a moral and physical leader on the field than Wilson will be for another couple of years. Not slamming Wilson, just stating a fact that many parents have been buzzing about. The guys trust Hudson, want him to lead them, and feel like they owe it to him more than a "newbee" transfer from out of state. Enough said. Baylor wins by 7
  10. What on God's green earth would make a coach beat a team 12-0..... no class, man....no class! This is high school soccer for heaven's sake. Nothing can ever be gained other than pathetic bragging rights. I would have to reconsider allowing my children to play for a coach that would actually do something like that. All that it teaches our young people to do is to laugh at people's short comings and does not show any form of sportsmanship, tact or class. What did Riverdale have to gain by slamming their opponent? As if college coaches look at those kinds of stats. I have spoken to many of them recently and when a game is so lopsided, they just discard any stat that pertains to a win with those numbers. Padding stats is as tacky as actually celebrating a win like this!
  11. Would have to give the edge to the little leprechauns.....they are strong at every position whereas Bearden's depth has been in their scoring abilities. Not too sure that Amy P. can come out against the ND back line on her own. I have seen both teams first hand and while ND competes with class, the Bearden girls get a bit too nasty when faced with skill. Should be interesting none the less..... my predicition is ND by 2. The little read head up top, Cambron I think is her name should continue her scoring streak easily against the Bearden team.
  12. Yeah and it is good to see rivals during the high school season come together so beautifully on the club fields. From what I hear, Ciabatonnne no longer plays for ERSA. and in her place is the Junior Carissa Sanchez (Baylor) and Senior Josie Rix from GPS. My prediction is Big Red for +1 no matter the score. Woodfine can put a ball in the net when it counts although they mark her tight. Scales, Gawthrop and Sanchez can rocket them from far out. Should be one of the best games in town to watch. Definite advantage for Baylor to be played at home. Fans could get ugly though..... Time will tell.
  13. Wondering why QB Chuck Hudson didn't play and this newcomer Charlie Wilson, who everyone is bragging about, wasn't pulled by coaches for his lack luster performance.
  14. Sounds like Oak Ridge gotten their second wind against ND. Anything on the Baylor vs. Jackson Prep game?
  15. Ouch. What is up with Grace??.... Expected a little better of a game.

    D2 2007

When did you hear that the Sanchez girl was moving to Baylor. She was a scoring machine for two years at Grace Academy - can't see how she would want to sit for a year over that kind of success.
  17. After almost forty years around this game I can't tell you how ridiculous I have seen parents get over defending "their" team. Can we spell "vicarious?" Much too much attention is given to standings and rankings for their team/players. Does it really make a difference for heaven's sake? No one ever said these were being carved in stone. If having their team name/player name get ranked in the top on a High School chatroom would actually change something of importance in this world then I would maybe agree. Let's remember what is truly important in our lives and the value system that we are showing our kids as we argue the validity of our "opinions". We are valuing their performance in a game way too high up there on the imaginary ladder of success. Mjuhb, some of us actually appreciate the time it takes you to do your lists, as well as your character to stand by what you judge. We also appreciate the spectators and some parents that are giving valid opinions to contribute to basis and formation of the rankings. But again, they are conjecture and opinion. Let's keep it in perspective, people. I can just imagine what garbage people would say if mjuhb actually got paid to do the rankings !!
  18. Opinions, please. When a team is obviously superior to their opponent it is right to keep pounding the back of the net and drive up the score? In light of some of the recent wins around the Chattown area........11-0, 11-1,10-0, 9-0, 8-0, etc. is it right to rub the opponents face in it? What is gained by it? Just honestly looking for opinions out there............ think it would be interesting to hear from some coaches and players on the subject. Not meant to judge, just interested in opinions.
  19. I would have to post my vote for CCS as well. They have played a number of tough games and are very consistent to date. Seems like (to me at least) that there will be no surprises coming out of the Chattanooga area. Even with a couple of injuries CCS has played strong. I think if they both do make it to the final game there will be a couple of players that will be key to their success - their keeper has more experience under her belt now, the Lee sisters are moving the ball well and some of the younger players like Dana Schufert (sp?) have been given some time on the field will also help to round them out. One of CCS's strengths is definitely in the fact that their bench is strong and everyone knows that sometimes in a hard fought game it comes down to who can hold out. We shall see gentlemen - we shall see. I may eat my words - has happened once or twice in my life - HaHaHa ! Guess that makes my vote number 5 for CCS - you win JUST4FUN..... you win !
  20. Ouch - sounds like you have been there. I would have to say that if the headgear advances to become lightweight and non cumbersome maybe it will help. If football players wear helmets then it shouldn't be so inconceivable to expect that over the next few years we will see them more prevelent on the soccer field. As stated it is a physical and contact sport. More than any other player -and after the recent events with the goalie from middle tennessee having her collision, I would think that keepers should be the first to wear them. I guess we will see.
  21. Call it what you want, but to me it is never appropriate for a coach to belittle a child (young person). There are other ways to make a player "tough". I have met many "coaches" in my day that think that just because they played that will make them a good coach. "Skill" does not necessarily equate to being a positive role model in the lives of young people - not every one can be a teacher. Just because I can brush my teeth doesn't make me a dentist. It isn't always about the game you know. Chances are 80 - 85% of the kids that they have "touched" in their coaching careers at the high school level will never make it on to play in college and that percentage drops considerably beyond the collegiate level - statistics say somewhere in the area of less than .03 % so - I am interested in what a coach does to promote the sport, teach respect for authority and giving 100% of yourself to what you are doing in your life - I have seen him throw water bottles, kick benches and throw tantrums to the refs - I have personally been witness to poor sportsmanship which shouldn't be tolerated at any level - it is afterall a game. If we allow this message to permeate our society then every time a kid doesn't get his way it makes it ok to swear, throw fits and the like.... it is no wonder that I have to do the job I do to try to redeem the hoodlums of society. Those kids then go out to the parking lots after games, pick fights, key people's cars and the like. All in the name of sports - please - I am not only referring to Bayliss - I have seen in it in for far too many years; in too many places, and for too many stupid reasons. Will his conference ring ever legitimize his actions and does that ring make him a better human being? I guess I will have to consider the source. Please - keep your excitement contained.
  22. She playes a good game and stays composed under pressure. I happen to see the game tonight and yes, this is quite an outstanding accomplishment for a player at the High School level. I think she is a junior though..........
  23. Give it up for Coach Sneller once again. His girls are playing well and the team is experiencing great success. Best of luck CCS - keep up the good work.
  24. Yes sir, you may be right. Just read that Grace lost to CAK by only one; but the shot count was fairly equal. Schedules that are posted show Notre Dame plays Grace this week. Guess that may answer some questions for us Chatt town people. I heard ND has a young team too with some incoming freshman that have played club ball. CCS has played more games than the other two and have played some hard teams liike siegel and Father Ryan. Not so sure about Grace - I think their first three games were a little easier with Sequoyah and McMinn Central, but sounds like Sweetwater kept them on their toes. We shall see gentlemen, we shall see.
  25. Ouch ! Well, I am known to always err on the conservative side. Put another feather in your cap Coach Blair.
