  1. I think he was drafted by the Cardinals out of high school. He bounced around in the minors for four or five years, then he decided to go back to football. He signed on with the University of Louisville as a wide receiver for four years and then tried to make the Chicago Bears as a free agent. An old shoulder injury kept him from being a star in the NFL. He finally had to hang up the cleats. He is now a successful journalist in a medium sized market in the South. ...wait...you said Phil Anthony...that graduated but never really left Goodpasture... O.K. never mind then. I don't know.
  2. Hats off to the Superintendent and the school board for standing up for their coach. Bledsoe Co. may not be winning a lot of footballl games right now, but one thing is for sure: When the current coach steps down, they will get a quality coach to replace him. I know this because the precedent has been set that the administration will stand up for you as a coach. When the honeymoon is over with a new coach and he doesn't win as much as some of you (who are much smarter than coaches anyway) think he ought to, He will know that you can't cost him his job. I don't know anyone on your school board but I commend them for the stance they have taken.
  3. Let me begin with this comment to pressman: Be careful about your sarcastic remarks about Goodpasture and their State Championship game vs. Alcoa. Granted, they did not play well, but no one expected them to beat Huntingdon. They are a good group of hard working young men and coaches. They don't deserve your sarcasm, even if you are trying to make a point. Secondly, why is noone even mentioning Coach Mike Duncan? Is it because he is an offensive guy and could possibly run the same offense that Coach Perry did? I think Coach Duncan is a very good coach. I'm just wondering why noone is talking about him as the hier apparant.
  4. DivisionII, You are Josh williams and people know it. Stop blowing your own horn. It's people like you that make it hard for the rest of us to look past the competition you played and be proud for all the good people at DA. You had one good game at Goodpasture (vs. CPA) and for what ever reason you could not give that sort of effort again. You got mad and ran away to another school. Nothing you say about Martin or the wing-t offense has any credibility.
  5. In the 2nd round game, the quarterfinal and the semifinal games, Goodpasture has played better in the second half than in the first half. The guys who play both ways have been doing it since August. I don't think fatigue will come into play.
  6. Can't you see what is happening? We got rid of the financial aid giving schools, thinking this would solve our problem. (Riverdale has benefited) Then we multiplied the rest of the privates, thinking this would solve our problem. (Former AA and AAA teams in A state finals and a private school in the AA and the AAA finals) Now to appease some folks we want to make a special division for "open enrollment" schools. If we do that, then what? Separate rural from urban schools. Next thing you know, we have a trophy for everyone who makes noise. I suggest we play 10 games a year. Play in invitational bowl games. Then take up equiptment.
  7. From Goodpasture: OL/DL - Quinton Groves, Mark Fisher, Lance Locke FB/LB - Reece Lovell, Dewayne Harris RB/DB - Shantz Medley, Tracy Mays WR/DB - KJ Beavers QB - Coleman Stroud From Lipscomb: Elrod From PJPII: Tate From East Robertson: I think the QB, Andrews, is back
  8. Multiply those suckers!!! 1.8 all around.
  9. There's no way a coach who is still playing in this round of the playoffs is overlooking anyone. I think the Goodpasture staff has been there several times before and knows how to coach in the playoffs.
  10. You are no Milan or Westview. You rush against and beat the people you play. Melton has plenty enough for UC.
  11. Tracey Mayes from Goodpasture. Nobody kicks to him anymore. He returned a punt 95 yards for a TD in a tough loss to eventual region champs East Robertson.
  12. Robjim, Traditionally, I would say CPA would win. But beware. ER is playing very well and have a lot of confidence and momentum. They are very talented. The best you can hope for with their QB is that he sits in the pocket and throws. If he scrambles look out. He's hard to catch. The football gods have smiled on the Indians so far. This could be their year.
  13. East Robertson played a great game vs goodpasture last week. It was a very physical game and the 2nd emotional game in two weeks. If they can be close to what they were last week, they will have no problem with Fairview. If they have the leadership to bring them back and play consistently, they should finish in good shape. By leadership, I'm talking about senior leadership, not coaches.
  14. With the obvious exception of Eddie Haskel, the posts on this thread are the best I've ever read on CoachT. Thanks to all who gave good advise to the one who asked the question in the beginning. It seemed the question was asked in good faith. I hope he will follow the advise given. Thanks again to level-headed fans.
  15. The O-Line is supposed to be pretty good, especially the center, Groves. Not a bad QB, Stroud. The front 7 on defense is good, especially DE's Wood and Fisher and LB's Jenkins and Harris.
  16. If you want to broadcast the entire game, you'd better be there a little earlier. If I'm not mistaken, I think the game starts at 7:00 PM instead of 7:30.
  17. The thing I find funny is this post started talking about the rivalry between USJ and JCS. Now supporters of both are bonding together to support their side of the private school discussion.
  18. Necvol, I appreciate what a loyal fan you are, but sometimes being so loyal to one team causes us to be blinded to reality. I seriously doubt that the TSSAA, whatever you think of them, is out to get your school. The senario that you described took place at every game that I watched at the state tournament. I saw almost every game in the bracket opposite yours. Believe it or not, everything worked out nicely for your team. There was not a conspiracy against your team or any other. By the way, see today's Tennessean newspaper for the quote by your head coach after your championship: "My way works and it finally got me a championship." I'm sure some would say that his way is driving the best talent in West TN to school everyday. I dare say there are lots of coaches around who could have coached the talent he had to a championship. He made it sound like without him, it never would have happened. Hey coach, it's not about you, it's about your players.
  19. The pitcher that Goodpasture threw against Halls was not one of their top 4 (Lowe, Tice, Porter, Darnell) but I would hardly consider him "throwing off". I happen to know that the Goodpasture coaches think a lot of Ross Moffitt. He has the ability to beat a lot of teams and did during the season (Maryville, Portland, BGA for example). If he had not been on a team with 3 senior starters, he would have gotten a lot more innings. With Logan Darnell (lefty) and Ross Moffitt (righty), both sophomores, coming back, the Cougar pitching staff seems to be reloading. Congrats to all state tournament teams. Hope to see you in Murfreesboro next year.
