  1. I realize this is not what you asked for, but it's not just wins that makes this guy the best high school baseball coach in the state of TN, imho. Richie Estep of Goodpasture is the man.
  2. Here is Goodpasture's non-district schedule. Not sure about the order: BGA FRA Lipscomb Clarksville Cane Ridge Maplewood
  3. Did Wicker get hurt or did WH coaches decide that since they weren't going to win anyway they would rest him up for the district game next week?
  4. Coach Harrison was Teacher of the Year at Goodpasture and was a GREAT PE teacher. I happen to know how much he loves the students. No way it was a teaching issue unless he has changed a ton since he left Goodpasture.
  5. You are right. I apologize. I was told earlier that a scrimmage had been set for April 26, but I have been informed today that the scrimmage was canceled. I certainly mean no disrespect toward Cheatham Co. football, its players or coaches. You all had a great year last year and I expect you to have another this coming year. My only point is that what some on this thread are calling a tough schedule is not, in my opinion. Fairview is a strong opponent, as is Camden, but these two above average (in my opinion) teams do not make your schedule tough. Sycamore, in spite of being a 4a playoff team, does not help your schedule. Good luck next season. I hope you have a healthy and successful season.
  6. While I don't disagree that Cheatham will be a good team next season, I must disagree on this being a tough schedule. Camden is above average but Creekwood, Harpeth, Mont. Central, Stewart Co., and Waverly are not tough teams. I know you have no choice on who you play in your district, but you'd better challenge yourself with a better non-district schedule. While JoByrns is a very good small school, beating them doesn't prepare you for a deep run in the 3A playoffs. I do admire you for scheduling a spring scrimmage with Goodpasture, however. This will let you know how much potential you have.
  7. I'm sorry to interrupt all this "very interesting" basketball talk (which should be on another board, right?), but does anyone have any info on a new football coach for CPA? Names I hear are Paul Wade and Ingle Martin.
  8. I understand that all 5 offensive linemen are seniors. That's a big hit no matter what team you are talking about. Can they develop anything to replace them? Did they also play defensive line? Having watched them play a few times, including the annual celebration of Alcoa's dominance, I hope there were several seniors in the defensive backfield. What else will they have to replace?
  9. What's the latest? Any early candidates?
  10. How is York still in if people are making these comments? Look at the brackett and see. Goodpasture may have been a number one seed but had a defense the a pee wee team could have scored on. Let me clarify just one thing. A pee wee team could have passed on Goodpasture's secondary. York knew this and exploited the weakness (translated - good coaching by York). York did not run the ball against Goodpasture. Goodpasture's d-line and linebackers were playing well at the end of the year. Against Grundy Co., the DB responsible for the QB on the option did not take the QB. Adjustments were made a the half and Grundy did not score again (translated - good coaching by Goodpasture). Not many were running the ball between the tackles. I've said all of that to say that Goodpasture's poor secondary play finally cost them (look back at all the Cougar's losses and see similar results). I have to believe that Milan's front 7 on defense is at least as good as Goodpasture's. I must also assume that their secondary play is far superior to Goodpasture's. If York scores, it will be on a trick play.
  11. The Goodpasture fan who said that the Cougars have a good fullback that did not play last night is right. #32 is a very good runner. However, if you watched the game last night, there was another Cougar fullback who is also very good. He was given the opportunity to play a whole game last night and he came through with nearly 200 yards rushing. The Cougars are very fortunate to have 2 very good fullbacks.
  12. I cannot wait to see Benjamin Cunningham run against Zack Rogers in the 100 meters. Cunningham is a physical specimen and Rogers is, without a doubt, one of the fastest kids I've ever seen. I have lots of respect for both and hope they both have great college football careers. But before they go, the competition will be fun to watch. Rogers, if I am not mistaken, is the defending state champ. Cunningham is the only guy to beat Rogers last year. Let the games begin.
  13. If we are talking about the best team in Middle TN over the past several years, the list has to include the Cougars of Goodpasture. In the state tournament the past 7 years; 3 state championships including the last two back to back. They have one of the best coaches in the state in Richie Estep and he finally has a solid assistant in Jim Norris (retired from McGavock)
  14. Lots of work went into this. Good job! It was an interesting read. I am not a Lipscomb supporter but have a lot of respect for the program. Thanks for the info.
  15. Sorry to be so late in chiming in on this topic. I haven't been on CoachT for several days. After reading the first few pages of this thread, however, I just had to add my two cents. This is typical USJ. When there is a confrontation, the USJ fans never seem to see what everyone else sees. They are never in the wrong. Their kids are never the type to do those things. I can almost assure you that no additional disciplinary action was taken. After all, the poor kid was the victim of bad umpiring. That justifies his poor behavior choices. Again, this episode is just typical USJ behavior.
  16. I am having trouble believing what I'm reading. Not that an excellent athlete or two would consider transferring to Alcoa, but that it is being dismissed with such a "ho-hum" attitude. That's just the way it goes. If this were happening at a private school, there would be weeping, wailing, and knashing of teeth over it. You people would be yelling "RECRUITING" at the top of your lungs. This thread would quickly be moved to the public/private section of CoachT, and people would call for severe punishment against the head coach and the school. Why is it just, "Transferring into a better school district never has been against the rules..." when a public school gets a few transfers who just happen to be great athletes?
  17. Let me say from the outset, I am a big Goodpasture fan. We have seen some very good football players this year as we have played a tough schedule. But I have to say, Horton is one of, if not the best defensive football player we have seen. Goodpasture's offensive line coach told me after the game that he made plays on sweeps and counters off the sweeps. His coaches had a good scheme and he executed it very well. He also told me that even when they had him blocked, they could not keep him blocked. Coach compared him to Bart Hicks, the linebacker from Alcoa. Most of us on the Goodpasture side are pulling for the Moose from Camden to win the Mr. Football award.
  18. I am a Goodpasture fan. I hope you can "hear" the sarcasm in my post. Believe me, my tounge was firmly tucked into my cheek as I typed my last post.
  19. Finding scholarship money for these kids is not that difficult; however, finding jobs for the family members of the really good out-of-state players is getting increasingly difficult. On top of that, our contract with the HUMMER dealership ran out and finding vehicles for these kids to drive is almost impossible. It's just a good thing that the physicians in our booster club provide our athletes and their families with free health care, otherwise we would never win a game. Good luck to all the "free" schools in the playoffs.
  20. Goodpasture's field is almost the slow lane of I65 north; at least an on-ramp.
  21. Come on Lewis Co.! If you are going to travel to Nashville (not sure where this years game is, but they will have to travel once) why not take the opportunity to play somebody that will challenge you; somebody that will prepare you for the playoffs? There are lots of people that will play you here. It doesn't have to be someone in 2A. It could be a Lipscomb or someone like that. I've heard that Coach McAdams and Coach Sharp were friends. That game could go a long way in preparing the Panthers for the 3rd or 4th round of the playoffs.
  22. Not sure where you are getting your information, but you might want to do a little more research. Goodpasture does have lots of speed, but that does not mean they do not like physical football (What am I talking about? Is there any other kind?)
