  1. Please refer to Webster's Dictionary for the definition of sarcasm. Thanks.
  2. Buzz Peterson recruited a 6'4" "power forward" from White Station.
  3. I assume there were all tourney teams named. Where can they be found ?
  4. Give me your thoughts on the top 10 rising seniors in Tennessee - any classification. I'll start with a player from NET - Antwaine Wiggins from Greeneville - just to get the ball rolling.
  5. There is a Tri-cities slant to the listed team but that's par for the course. It's their newspaper. Say what you want, but there was nobody better in NET than Antwaine Wiggins. The players from Central are great high school basketball players but really not in the same league as Wiggins. Sorry guys. Also, don't feel bad about Wiggins not getting player of the year honors. They generally like to give those feel good awards to seniors - except for the K'port Times-News. The KT-N would evidently rather give player of the year honors to Wattad, a junior, than someone from its home county. Kind of makes you think.
  6. Good to see Wiggins and Moore on the list. But, I'd take Eric Anderson over any point guard in NE Tenn. He should have at least made Hon. mention.
  7. Congrats to G'ville on a great season. Everyone left it on the floor tonight but Hamilton just had too many horses. Moore and Wiggins had great games, in particular. I think Wiggins solidified himself as one of the top juniors in the State. Looking forward to next year as Duncan will have the troops back in the Boro.
  8. I think the person you quote is from Clinton. Just a thought.
  9. Not really an understatement about Nicole, Brandon. That's a pretty decent adjective to use. But, look at my post from before last night's game. Nicole can't carry the team at this level . . . yet. Nicole had a bunch of boards before she fouled out, Whitney ran the point well, Lauren hit a couple of big shots and played strong defense, Ashley was a "monster" in the post (11 or 12 rebounds) and Sienna . . . well, she outplayed everyone on the court. Not the prettiest team performance ever, but they were strong when it counted.
  10. Do I smell a little jealousy ? Gosh, you would expect a little more support from local folks. But, I guess you can't expect much from a Rebel.
  11. I don't know much about Coach Pitts, BA or the other coach's listed within this thread. I'm just an interested observer from NE Tenn. From what I understand, however, there is some sort of connection between Coach Pitts and the King AD? What is the connection ? Also, Channel 11 news out of the Tri-cities indicated that Coach Pitts and King College were "talking" - whatever that means. I do know that King is attempting a move to D2. I also know King has put a lot of payola into its facilities.
  12. Nicole is evidently the second Freshman to be named NET player of the year - the first being Courtney McDaniel who played at UT for a couple of years. Nicole is a fantastic player but she can't carry the whole team - at this level. She might be able to carry the team in the IMAC but not in the Boro. Everyone else will have to step up. Whitney Carter will have to keep turnovers to a minimum, Lauren Anderson will need to find her outside stroke and play great defense, Ashley Deans will have to be a monster in the post and Sienna will have to have a solid game, offensively and defensively, against Hillsboro. All of the subs will have to step it up as well. But, I think the coach will have to step up too. From what I've read about Hillsboro, Greeneville may have some match-up problems.
  13. That means Hamilton would beat the Tribe by at least 46 . . . right ?
  14. You would think that Brentwood Academy would pay more than King College ? But, that's just my opinion.
  15. Your are correct, the Greeneville team from a few years ago didn't have many "athletes" - they had a couple of big guys who were tall but slow (ex. Matt Malone who played at UTC for a year or 2) and a couple of other solid players. This G'ville team would run circles around the team from a few years ago that got blasted by Bradley. Not to take anything away from that team, but there is no comparison between the overall athleticism of this year's team vs. the team from several years ago. Also, didn't Bradley pound Hamilton in the semi's that same year ? Greeneville fans love the heart and athleticism of this team but I think everyone realizes the tremendous challenge Greeneville will face next Thursday. Plus, the Devils are just a good group of kids - no trash talking, no bickering, etc. They just play ball and have fun doing it.
  16. Wiggins is a 6'7" Junior transfer from the State of North Carolina. He can play anywhere on the floor, plays great defense and has a solid 3 point shot as well as a good mid-range game. He's also a good kid. Several SEC schools and ACC schools have shown interest in Wiggins not to mention a variety of mid-majors. The knock on Wiggins has been his slight frame - he's sort of built like Tashaun Prince. But, he more than held his own against Powell's 6'7", 255 lb. monster named Lee Smith who has signed to play a little pigskin next year on the Hill in Knoxville. Wiggins + 20 to 25 lbs. = top flight D1 prospect. Wiggins will evidently play AAU ball with the Travelers this summer - so I have heard. If he has a good showing against Hamilton, he'll quickly become a name outside of East Tennessee.
  17. Your post says a lot without saying a lot. My concern is that G'ville will be able to hang around in the first half but be too tired to hang around in the second half. They say (whoever they is) that Hamilton plays 14 players and we know G'ville plays 7 players and 8 at the most. Coach Duncan will have the troops prepared and each player will leave it all on the floor. No doubt about it. Remember that Buster Douglas beat an unbeatable Mike Tyson many years ago; the USA beat the unbeatable Soviets in the semi's of the Olympics in 1980; Villinova beat an unbeatable Georgetown team led by Patrick Ewing in the 80s; and NC State beat an unbeatable Houston in the early 80s. Heck, Spud Webb even won the NBA slam dunk contest in the mid 80s against an unbeatable field.
  18. I just talked to Coach Duncan and he stated that he was cancelling the trip to the Boro because of your post. He didn't realize, until after hearing about your post, that Hamilton was that good. Good luck to Hamilton in the semi's - they'll be well rested.
  19. I can only assume that the earlier post was someone playing on the Wiggins transfer and poking fun. It would be great to see Jonathan Murner come back next year (I believe he was just a Soph. last year) but I have not heard anything about a transfer from Kentucky. But, it wouldn't surprise me if true. While many consider G'ville "hickville" (for whatever reason) this is a great town within which to raise a family. We have one of the top-rated school systems in the State (Greeneville City Schools) and we have some solid industry, not to mention Tusculum College which is still growing. Greeneville will always have the opportunity to snag transfers because of its industry, Tusculum College, etc. (i.e. Jimmy Boone courtesy of Tusculum College and Antwaine Wiggins courtesy of LandAir). And let's not forget that G'ville is just a darn great place to live.
  20. You are correct to a certain extent. G'ville did have a tendency to play down a little and part of the problem is the lack of talent in the IMAC (not to rag on the other teams in the IMAC but it is true). Can you believe M'town West beat G'ville several weeks ago ? I also believe each player plays better against better competition - i.e. Science Hill, Red Bank, DB, Powell, etc. Wiggins, in particular, shines against better competition. But your right . . . Anderson runs the show as any good point guard should. I also want to say that Lee Smith is a fantastic athlete. I think Wiggins and G'ville's defense really frustrated him, however. I was a little concerned with Powell's size and how this would impact Wiggins. But, I think he handled it well. We need to throw Wiggins in the weight room with Smith. In my opinion, he'll be a top flight D1 prospect with the addition of 20-25 lbs of muscle. By the way, what game films did you have to prepare for G'ville ?
  21. I certainly don't think you are talking trash. This will be sort of like David vs. Goliath. No doubt about it. Hamilton has one of the top teams in the country. Also, G'ville has a couple of "role" players who come of the bench but only expect G'ville to play 7 players at the most. Maybe 8. G'ville's team is in overall superb condition but it will be tough to hang with rotations of 4 and 5 players. Coach Duncan is a great coach and he'll have G'ville as ready as they can be. You never know.
