  1. Terrence is the real deal. He will start sometime during his freshman year. He is too good to keep on the bench. We saw Terrence with back spasms in the tournament. Don't under estimate him. I am sure, knowing him, he likes being told he can't do something. That will motivate him all the more to prove the jealous critics, wrong! Greatness always attracts a crowd of jealous flies. It goes with the territory. Have watched him play since middle school. He is as focused and as competitive as even Lee Humphrey and that says alot.
  2. Where can I get a copy of that photo and who took it? Great shot!
  3. Who knows until they play. Set it up and see for sure. Liberty is awesome. And Maryville is used to playing the underdog. Should be a easy win for Liberty like all the rest of Maryville's opponents this season. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  4. Honestly some insiders were not shocked at all that this team won state. There were a few players ,that preseason even predicted they would win state. Many fans and players did not post on here for fear of tipping people off. Staying humble and getting no respect were key allies. I think they knew they could win it all when they realized in the preseason they were able to play Oglesby(number 1 player in state) and Bradley Central( number 3 team in state) fairly even , and without the football players (Douglas, Maples and Hunt). I think they played off on being the underdogs all season. All losses were no big deal including the loss to Powell. In fact I think it helped in light of the fact they had fairly poor fan support ,to go on the road. To play in a loud hostile place like Science Hill and beat them was just the ticket this team needed to give them the confidence to go all the way. Getting no respect kept them humble. Even now many think it was some kind of fluke that they won state /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Then to get Bradley Central in the first round was just what they needed. Basketball is all about peaking at the right time and Maryville did. It helped being the underdogs all year with a little luck here and there. I don't think they will be able to play the underdog next year. It was good while it lasted. Hopefully the fans will get behind this coach and players next year and make the difference. Clarksville and Liberty fan support is the pattern of what we should be like next year. One last point, there were many players on the bench that would have started elsewhere and that may have made a big difference. Case in point was Click and his game winning shot. Hats off to D Hunt and his great attitude and support of his teammates. He could have started on any other team and it had to be tough for him as the starting QB to sit the bench. Allen, Jolly , Pickle and all the rest were also solid contributers. Eldridge did a great job of being the glue that held this team together.....and at times it looked like they would unravel. He set the "cool" pattern and Clicks shot was the icing on the cake. It was really no surprise at all, in retrospect, to "them".
  5. This is the only time all year Maryville was rated number One and not the Underdog. It helped to play the underdog role in spite of the fact that many of us knew what they were capable of. Next year they will have to play with the football's teams target on their back. Hopefully Douglas will get his 5th and 6th rings.
  6. Damron was awesome and took it up a notch with Basile and Maples out of the game. He showed why he may be the next Oglesby who was my vote for "Mr Basketball". Nelson and Eldridge are both great coaches and both deserve credit for what this team accomplished. Eldridge came in wearing an "interim coach" stigma and did the impossible. The kids absolutely "love" him and that may be why he was able to take them to the next level. He was Mr Cool under pressure and they all responded accordingly. Eldridge managed to do the "little things" which made the "big difference". I hope he like Quarles stays a long time despite the sure temptations to go "college". He like Quarles is a "class act". Nelson laid the foundation and Eldridge built the house......both deserve alot of credit. No comparisons are necessary. Bobby Knight and Bruce Pearl have their own styles and both are effective great coaches. Agree with Williegov Damron should solidify his D1 pursuits with this finale. I have got to believe that kid from Liberty, the 5 ft point guard is going to be there too. Despite his small size he was phenomenal.
  7. Anthony is the best point guard I have seen in a long time. He is exciting to watch along with his teammates. Liberty's players and fans were a real class act! They win my award for the best team and fans in the entire tournament and I am from Maryville. Not sure who was more exciting to watch the team or your fans. You guys should be proud and I wish you well for many years to come. We had a great tournament and deserved to win AAA but our team and fans would be no match for Anthony and 31, 33, 24 etc............and most of all your "yick yak" fans???
  8. Maryville should be strong for many years to come with Douglas(the best big man in the state), and the shooting of Damron,Click and Lambert. Next year they will be tough as ever and their freshman crop is outstanding and big. Reynolds will give Maryville a unique size advantage over just about everyone. Defense was the key to Maryville's success in the tournament and the big man plugged the middle like no one else in the tournament. He deserves alot more credit and was the "big difference". Douglas will need to consider playing two sports in college and is truly a unique athlete. I think next year Click is the point , allowing Damron and Lambert to do what they do best , shooting the threes. Pickle should also be a big contributer with his inside game. Keep it going guys and repeat . By the way who were the two guys who went into the Clarkesville fan section? Must of been football players?

  11. Free throws Bearden 27 Maryville 12 That should be greater than a two to one foul ratio. And that is not even counting the non shooting fouls. You don't need to be a basketball coach to figure this one out. Unless of course if you have an axe to grind?
  12. Hats off to Bearden they deserve to represent our district based on a great season. Maryville was also not able to shut down Tony White which was key. Not sure you can say Bearden defeated Maryville though as the refs were clearly calling the game onesided. Calling touch fouls on oneside and ignoring blatant mugging on the other end was obvious to all in attendance. They essentially took Maryville out of the game. More appropriate you should have said "Bearden defeats Maryville with a lot of help from the Refs". Basketball has become much like Boxing in that the referrees or judges more often than not determine the outcome. Good luck to Bearden and hopefully you will make it all the way to the state finals if the ref's dont get in your way........
  13. Gosh don't fall into that trap. Read my last post. If we don't become ONE we will never win. It is not about who is the best shooter or who scores the most points, it is about who humbles himself to become part of the ONE team whatever that role may be. After winning the district championship the one player that impressed me the most was Brent Faulkner. He sat the bench the entire time, but you would never have known it the way he celebrated after the game! That my friends is the definition of being ONE. Jealousy and comparisons is the quickest way to destroy the goal of becoming ONE. Hopefully the players will not fall into the same trap. Maybe Faulkner can show us all , The ONE goal and The ONE team Competition can be good as long as we learn to become part of the bigger whole. Fans, parents and coaches need to learn as well and become part of the ONE. If not we become part of the problem and not the solution. Encouraging jealousy is no good for anyONE!
  14. Maryville's biggest opponent the rest of the post season is SELF. If they play unselfishly , no one can beat them . The guards including Maples,Basile,Tate,Damron and West will need to really get in the face of Beardens 3 guards and not allow any 3's or penetration. If and when they penetrate into the paint, then the big guys will have to assert themselves like they have in the past ,blocking shots and not allowing any easy layups. The Big guys,Tucker,Tate,Brown,Allen,Niethammer and Douglas will need to step up big offensively and more important defensively to beat the Dawgs. Bearden will be a prohibitive favorite with the likes of White,Sibley,Ware ,their strong posts and their 30 plus wins.Unless of course , Maryville's players find it in themselves to play unselfishly and rise above their snubbing by PrepXtra and all the so called experts.Bearden will be playing with a lot of emotion trying to avenge their loss in the district championship. To the Rebels it's big game time and its time to play with passion and control with no regrets, laying it all out on the court. Including of course your biggest opponent, SELF. Pull for each other as ONE unified team, with no jealousy and one common goal.........to win and move on, ONE game at a time. And last but not least have fun and enjoy every minute of it. You have absolutely nothing to lose.....you are winners no matter what happens, as long as you play as ONE.
  15. Bottom line is they need to play as a team to advance or they will all be sitting on the sidelines watchin Bearden and the rest of them advance on. Bearden will be a tough opponent and we better get our thoughts on Tony White and the rest of his guys and not each other. Bearden will be seeking revenge and the the guys better get up for it and play together.
