  1. Does anyone know when the make-up date for this game is going to be? And what's wrong with Zimmerman? She hasn't played in a few games lately for FCS? Is she hurt?
  2. Who all is making up Friday night's games on Saturday night?
  3. The district is considerably weaker than it was a year ago, but the entire region is considerably weaker than it was a year ago. I think both teams from this region will get bounced by Temple and Boyd-Buchanan or Tyner in the substate. But a lot of teams have a chance to make a nice postseason run. Here are my pics: 1. Gordonsville (seem to be more consistent and more balanced than everyone else - teams saw glimpses of this last year in the postseason) 2. Trousdale County (already posted big wins over Friendship and twice over Westmoreland - all offense though, you find a way to slow Ford and you should beat them) 3 (tie). Friendship Christian (Tomlinson is obviously carrying them - surprised to see them struggling as they are; they were my preseason favorite to win it - did they lose some players that should have been seniors this year, like where's Kyle Kegley?) 3 (tie). Westmoreland (Everyone knew they'd be down with all the seniors they lost, but even when they win, they win ugly - all defense, no offense) 5. Watertown (I'd pick them higher, but they're just too inconsistent; they are dangerous though - could win the district tournament just as the four teams I've ranked ahead of them could - couple good wins, but I'm not a believer yet) 6. Van Buren County (lot of talented-looking athletes but just can't quite seem to put it together) 7. Mt. Juliet Christian (aren't as bad as I thought they'd be with the loss of Kitchen) 8. Boyd Christian (just seem to be the weakest link)
  4. He only scored eight points Tuesday against MLK. I heard he didn't play tonight against Greenbrier. What's going on? Is he hurt?
  5. Take away Harper, and who is so ultra-quick for the Jackets. He takes them from being an good team to being a state title contender. Don't get me wrong. Satterfield has good quickness for a quarterback, and McCall and McDonald have decent quickness. But their quickness doesn't compare to TT's lateral movement. If you find a way to slow down TT without compromising too much else, you win. But the thing is that with Harper in the backfield, they can get the ball to him via a handoff, toss, swing pass, etc. any time they want to. He's one of the quickest backs I've ever seen. But turnovers are a great equalizer, which makes a ball-control, hard-nosed team like Smith County a threat (even more so with it being such a heated rivalry between these two teams). I hope Coach Maynord has a few tricks up his sleeve. Portland didn't have too much trouble holding down Ward from what I heard. And TC's defense will be better. I can't see SC winning barring a considerably better performance than Friday's. I know you guys are going to say that Portland played so much better than they did the first time, but SC only scored two touchdowns and didn't have a fumble or interception. Doesn't sound like a very potent offensive performance (and I know the conditions weren't ideal). Good luck to both teams though. Wish I could be there to watch it. Hey TC fans, is McCall a senior? Will he return to the backfield with McDonald and Powell next year? How many OL do the Jackets lose? Fill me in please. [Edited by eyeonu on 11-17-02 1:52A] [Edited by eyeonu on 11-17-02 1:55A]
  6. Just wanting to get some input from you guys on who some of the best teams are that aren't going to the playoffs? How many bowl games are still around, and have the invitations to those already been extended?
  7. I'm just wondering if Trousdale totally bottled Ward up last week? He's such an aggressive runner that I could believe your leading rusher wasn't him with the leading rusher only having 40-something yards. Just wondering what they specifically did to bottle him up, and did he not get as many carries as usual?
  8. Why did so any young people have to step up Friday night? Injuries?
  9. Isn't the kid from Fairview the one who's leading the midstate in rushing yardage? What grade is he in? If he's an underclassman, will he have much coming back with him next year? If he's a senior, will he play at the next level?
  10. Has this game been moved to Thursday night?
  11. East seems to be struggling. Jo Byrns ripped them last week, and they bearly beat Houston County this week. I don't know much about Houston County, but I didn't think they were much of a football power. I saw that Macon County beat Livingston last night, and I read where they beat Westmoreland last week. So, they have to be pretty decent to have beaten both of those two.
  12. Will he be healthy enough to play against Portland in week 4? What is his injury and how serious is it?
  13. Is Monterey a much improved team? I was suprised that FCS didn't have more success putting points on the board with their new quarterback at the helm?
  14. Was the result of this game a surprise to anyone? I thought Meigs was supposed to be pretty good? I know Tyner is head and shoulders above anyone else in the area, but how will the rest of the region pan out? Are Polk County and Sequatchie County the No. 2 and 3 teams?
  15. Who's ahead in the series? I would assume that it's Smith County, but I know that Gordonsville had to have won several of those contests in the 80s though. How long has it been since Gordonsville defeated Smith County?
  16. Will the Gray kid help Stewart County much? What positions does he play?
  17. Who do the rest of them play with like Brooks, Bruce, DePriest, Bolton, Gallaher, etc.? Do you know where Ray might go?
  18. I have three questions. Who are all the Portland baseball players playing summer ball with? Do they all play together or do they play on different teams? How many of those kids are playing college baseball, particularly their best pitcher (Ray)? I heard that their shortstop was going to Western Kentucky.
  19. How good has Whitwell been in recent years? Is there any tradition there?
  20. 1. LaVergne 2. Mt. Juliet 3. Beech 4. White House 5. Wilson Central 6. Smyrna 7. Hendersonville 8. Gallatin LaVergne has a lot of talent. Losing Scott might make a big difference in the postseason (when it's do-or-die and they face a No. 1 pitcher from another school), but I don't think it'll prevent them from winning it in the regular season. Mt. Juliet has a lot of talent too. I don't think Purvis had that many seniors, and he's a great coach (like Reavis). There'll always be plenty of talent coming out of the Mt. Juliet area. Beech loses some key players, no doubt. But they return Davenport on the mound and a key player in Patterson. Third in the district might be a little high, but they surprise me at how well they fill voids every year with kids who aren't that physically gifted. Goes back to having a great coaching staff again. White House loses a few key players in Link, Jared Pickett etc., but they return a lot in the younger Pickett, Tant and several other starters. I don't know a lot about Wilson Central, so picking them at No. 5 may be a huge stretch. However, it hasn't taken them long to become competitive in some other sports so I don't expect it to take long in baseball either. Lot of talent...minimal if any losses...competitive in a lot games in 02 despite not winning many. They will be okay in 03. Vetter is another good coach, so picking Smyrna No. 6 might be a stretch as well. However, they lose a lot in Seten, Emerine, Smith, etc. Those guys will be tough to replace (even though LaVergne's losses were comparable, I feel that LaVergne has considerably more talent to replace its losses with). Hendersonville underachieved this year with a lot of seniors. They lose their catcher, one of their top two pitchers, their third baseman, shortstop, first baseman, etc. (I'm not sure about their second baseman and outfield). Gallatin was young this year, but they lose two of their three best hitters and their two top pitchers. Tough to see them finishing very high, though picking them last might be yet another stretch. If they had any pitching coming back, I might think otherwise.
