Mine, too. And I'd love to give it a go, even though I'm gettin' 'old'...

There's not many times that honesty shows on here, but, in this case, you certainly appear to be and I appreciate it. This is EXACTLY what I was referring to and since I also believe in being honest...personally, I happened to be out by the concession stand before he asked people to leave the gym to go pay and saw the ticket takers setting up, so I paid for me and my wife and had my ticket stubs. But, after I came back in the gym he was almost yelling at our side to leave. As much as I appreciate the need for money to run a sports program, what about letting one person per party that was staying for the varsity games go pay? You know, there has to be some trust in these situations and there's probably a better way to get your money (I've never seen this done in our gym...). But, it's certainly NOT the visiting teams' responsibility to figure that out. Leaving the gym wasn't gonna insure honesty, I assure you. As I said, it was his rude and arrogant demeanor at the time. Doesn't make him a jerk for life, but he certainly was that night and a lot of people felt the same way.

So, great shooters NEVER have off nights? Are you saying they have to be perfect EVERY night? Hmmm...to be so critical, I wonder what YOU'RE background is/was? Defense IS relative. If I play you and I'm able to push, pull and grab and you're not, I'll beat you like a drum...EVERYtime! GARE-ON-TEED, slick! Sycamore...and everybody else I've seen in the history of me watchin' GB...plays WAY more physical. The other team...no matter who it seems to be...ALWAYS sets the tone of the game and if the refs don't do what they're supposed to do, it continues the whole game and is a HUGE advantage to the aggressor. And WHERE you play is just an excuse. GB's gym is the worst I've ever seen, agreed (rumor is Mason's own father designed it, so there you go...), but it's the same at both ends. That's like sayin' the weather bothers some or playing outdoors isn't conducive to some players. That's a b.s. excuse! No matter where they're playing, some players are just weird about the rims, the floor, etc. Look at Vandy's. Now THAT'S a screwed up gym rite ther!, but John Jenkins shoots pretty good in it, don't he? Just like he does in a 'normal' gym (I think I saw him score 48 one night a few years ago at Greenbrier when they hosted the districts)... Maybe that's why the best players usually are born and bread on the playgrounds...or now in the community centers. If Connor was on a good team, he'd average 20+ a game...'cause they'd get him looks and he'd knock 'em down. Which 'young players' on the team are better than Peach? I've never really liked WH's coach, anyway. He was VERY rude to our crowd one time over there and appears arrogant. If it's true, taking off your jersey at ANY point during the game is inexcusable and would get you kicked off my team. I don't even like it when some pull their jersey out of their shorts after they've fouled out or whatever. It's a sign of disrespect or 'look at me, I'm something' kinda gesture, in my opinion. 'Keep your shorts up and your jersey on and tucked in till we're in the locker room or you don't play for me'...would be my rule. Old school? Nah. Just timeless discipline and respect. Two things that our society has really let slip in the past few decades. Gotta go. It's lookin' like nobody told Detroit they're supposed to lose to Brees' Saints!

Very well put. No intensity...to guard, shoot, help or WIN! VERY disappointing. HOW do you run an offense against man D with 3 across the top almost at the half-court and then expect the guy with the ball to take his man down the middle for a possible layup...when the other 2, on the left and the right, never do anything to help their teammate? In fact, all they do is stand there and watch their defenders double off on the dribble drive, thus creating a double-team and stopping the scoring opportunity. Oh, and the other 2, since the new offense has 5 guards that aren't aggressive offensively or willing to shoot, just stand there, in their respective corners close to the baseline...I guess waiting on something to happen. It's the worst offense...or worst execution of a supposed offense...I've ever seen. I'm mad that I paid to get in! Just pitiful! Whatever happened to the basic pick-and-roll or the clear out or motion where you're actually moving to help a teammate score the ball? We played like we were ahead. Absolutely no sense of urgency or offensive aggression. Despite tonight's display of lackadaisical execution, GB actually has some kids with skills that, if coached correctly or encouraged a little, can score off the dribble...or spot up with a kick-out pass to at least take a good fundamental mid-range shot. Josh Goodwin, Sycamore's coach, looked like he was thinking...'OK, if you're not gonna aggressively guard my guys, we're gonna do layups all game. I can't believe we're scoring so easily and you're not doing anything to adjust.' What a nightmare...for the players AND the fans. Just sad!
  5. They played Ursting in the Bluegrass, too?! Whatever... For the record, the 29 pts. was scored by a kid that used to dominate the pee wee league up to the high school level...in Greenbrier. And, so the CPA elitists don't get too upset, it's pretty much known around here that his family DID and DOES have the resources for him to transfer...to Alaska even, if they wanted to... And, as I've said before, I don't blame him OR them. It's a free country. But, I don't like it...pretty much for the same reasons stated by oldkodger >>> 'cause he and his old middle school teammates would've taken Greenbrier to another level the last few years. He is certainly a difference-maker, as CPA has found out...and, apparently, Drew already knew. Not only physically, but his basketball IQ is off the charts. Belmont got a steal...no pun intened.

Unfortunately, son, you speak the truth. A BLOW-OUT! Embarrassing. And somethin' better happen before districts begin. On the other hand, if your Commandos got 'gutted' by 1 super-stud and 2 regular studs leaving, maybe I'd be posting what you did. Hmmm... FYI: The tall, red-headed kid is playing...get this...volleyball!
  7. Look, in my own personal 'private/Christian school' experience, I was always reminded about the ways of this world and (this is a direct quote from the headmaster, an ordained Baptist minister, at the time) 'if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it's a duck.' Well, like someone else posted earlier, it's just NOT coincidental that all these AAU all-stars are on CPA's roster. And, if you're honest, you know it's true. I know it hurts, but...sorry! Let's not be naïve here. It's common knowledge that lyin' and cheatin' in big-time sports is standard operating procedure today and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down or getting better. In fact, it's getting worse because of greed, pride and money. Even at the high school level. I can't prove it...just like I can't prove Jesus died on the cross, even though I believe it...but I believe T$$AA rules have been broken in this situation. Sadly, the only people that know that for sure are the ones that have participated...and, apparently, it's perpetuating. One more thing...matt610, I appreciate your honesty, first, AND your perspective. Thanks for participating from a position of knowledge, truth and passion and not speculation, like most of us.
  8. IF CPA doesn't win ALL their games, they should be embarrassed AND ashamed! Recruited or not, they're still the best money can buy... And as far as labels go, if we're haters, then you're 'deniers!'

Connor has to create a lot of his shots. And very seldom does he force or rush his shots. Heck, he's a teenager and he's not perfect. But, he's a good kid that can play this game. He's also smart. Most games he starts slow because he's probably 'feelin' out' the D and learning the tendencies of who's guarding him. He scored 30 the other night and it seemed like 20. He scores in bunches and has patience. I think that shows his maturity. He also don't run that trap. His talkin' is shootin' one in your face. And 'great D' is relative. He gets killed a lot of nights and refs are supposed to protect shooters. Hand-checking and pushing and shoving is a foul, but most of the refs in our games don't call it. They try to be NBA-level and they'll never get past high school. Great D is moving your feet to get position and getting your hands in the passing lanes or in the shooters face. Holdin' and grabbin' is not great D. Anybody can do that to gain an advantage and when it's not called it's a HUGE advantage. Shooting the ball is also relative. To score you have to shoot. To score a lot most good shooters shoot a lot. DUH! It's what they do...and most coaches will take that 40% made all day! It's very rare to see a guard or forward shoot 50% from outside over a season unless there are a lot of layups involved.

Seriously, I gotta feelin' you may be a self-critical GB fan/ex-player/current player/student that likes to stir the pot. If so, you better be ready to 'play'... In any event, you've also gotta give GB credit...whether they're playing above their true character/talent level or not. They're a scrappy bunch that's gonna play hard every game and give it all they got. And you know the old sayin': 'Hustle beats talent any day talent don't hustle.' No truer sayin'! Next up: Cheatham Co., Tuesday night @ GB. I hear they're tall, talented, mature and can shoot it. Maybe Coach Mason oughta call Doc Shelton for some advice on a game plan...

What's 'I take into content' mean? So you're an 'assumer' and you and GOOB think alike? I'd agree with that... Anyway...stating a fact isn't really cocky, to me. They're 2-0, which does make 'em undefeated at this time, though, so... And what about YOUR mama...could you take her to the rack, too?

Who said 'quality wins?' Quit showing your intelligence and READ FOR UNDERSTANDING. You probably couldn't take my g-mama to the rack...'talker!'

You forgot the 'stabilizer:' Chris Holbert. He's the epitome of a point guard and silent leader. Makes good decisions, hustles, plays defense, good...no, GREAT! passer and even rebounds. Scores, too, when needed. I would LOVE to have him as a teammate and hope my son watches what he does and appreciates it. He's the one that IF Craig , Sam and Jackson would've stayed, would be an integral part of a state-bound team, no doubt! That means we would've (coulda, shoulda, I know...) had Connor, Tyler and others filling that 5th spot consistently and, uhh!, oh what a team we would have. But, it wasn't meant to be and we certainly can't cry over spilt milk. That's why I love watchin' this team. And a 'TEAM' they are. They're 'survivors' and fun to watch. No quit in 'em, either. Yeah, they beat Harpeth...which, to me, was by far the more talented team...by playing as a team and Harpeth was even allowed to play 10X more physical. Heck, I think 2 of the refs wore blue and red shirts underneath their stripes. The third guy even 'got knocked the heck out' by gettin' in the way one time. Thankfully, he wasn't hurt, but it was TOO funny! As far as the future, who knows. We've certainly got some good talent coming and lots of it. But, as I've seen in GB-land before, some just don't have the passion or dedication to be REAL good. The future certainly looks bright, but there are too many variables to be making predictions. I'm just gonna enjoy this team this year and hope they keep playing hard and smart. GO Cats!
  14. Hate it for Craig AND the team. Seems like he continues to have bad luck, physically...since summer. Whether or not it had anything to do with this particular case, the game of basketball is getting rougher and rougher...and there's only one blame: Refs. They continue to let the physical play go...usually in favor of one team, which is a shame. The hand-checking, the grabbing and holding and the push-off is a FOUL! So, call it!! And they're not volunteers. They're supposedly paid 'professionals.' The players, coaches and, yes, even the paying fan$ deserve better.
  15. Yeah, there ain't no 'me' in 'team!' Check that. Yes, there is, I guess, if you rearrange some letters. Anyway... Can't y'all figure this out? 'darealchUmp' is like 'mayhem' on that insurance commercial. He ain't a real person. Everybody knows EL did their own thing last year...ON THEIR OWN!...and this ding-dong didn't have anything physical, spiritual or emotional invested in it. And 'CPA4Ever,' I ain't gonna lie, I miss Craig, not only because of his basketball skills but because he's a good kid. But, I don't miss him so much that I would want him back the way CPA got him. That just wouldn't be right. Also, read that part about pride and being humble...again. I don't think you 'got it' the first time.
  16. This is just too funny! I've laughed so much I'm cryin'!! The topic is kinda misleading ('10AA Basketball'), with CPA4-E-Verrr tryin' his best to be 'Mr. Diplomatic' and mentioning The Wood and DL. It should be 'Two Pages Of coachrus Talkin' To CPA4Ever About How Great CPA Is Gonna Be.' mmmyesss!
  17. 'Scue me, but could somebody tell the dude holdin' up that 'TD Gage' sign that there's a lot of chitren there...and he don't need to be promotin' illiteracy? It's 'gaUge!' Thanks! (per request from 'mama 'n 'em' in Greenbrier, TN)

  20. For GB, Brandon Laney (#10), Aaron Shelton (#33) and Easton Pinkleton (#11) had 2X and Josh Hopkins (#16) had 3X! the heart of any other player OR coach tonight! Sorry, but our line(s) stunk it up, in my opinion. WH's put on a clinic. And what is UP with letting the clock run out in the 2nd quarter with over 40 seconds to go when we're down by 2 TDs? Why not sling it and see what happens? It seems this is the 'game plan' EVERY week...and it's gettin' old. Losing by 1 or 20 is still a loss, coach. One very observant woman in the stands said, 'maybe he's tryin' to protect the lead.' It was said in jest, of course, and I never laughed so hard in my life! How sad, but how true. I've NEVER understood the mindset of coaching not to lose...or playing scared. It's hard enough to play this sport on a high level, but it's even harder for young men to have to play a game within a game. Why complicate things? We have better athletes than coaches...even though it seems we've got about 50 of 'em. And this loss is 100% on them, again. For WH...good QB, GREAT #8 and AWESOME kicker (I'm talkin' D1, no doubt!!!).

Since nobody's addressed the 'specifics,' I think it's funny how 'certain' student (lower-case)-athletes (all CAPS) just up and transfer with no mention of the so-called T$$AA 'rules'...
  22. Congrats! to former Worth teammates Casey Vincent (UT-Martin signee), Sara Beth Roberts (UT-Chatt. signee), Jordan Abell (Lipscomb signee) & Haley Fagan (UT-Knox. signee). Also, to friends/rivals Taylor Deason (UT- Chatt. signee), Niki Fogle (Jr....and somebody will be gettin' a 'gem' in 2012-13), Cheyanne Knepper (Buffalo signee), Brittany Toney (Illinois-Edwardsville signee), MacKenzie Leding (So. Illinois signee; All-State, but not All-Midstate?; whatever...'it is what it is') & Lindsey Dalton. High school and travel was such a fun time and I miss bein' around these very talented young ladies (and even their parents...WINK!). Each is so deserving of this and I knew it long ago...but the sportswriters never asked me, LOL! Seriously, if I was the coach of a certain program in middle TN you'd all be within 50-100 miles of home. In fact, I wish ALL of you were playing with you-know-who...and she does, too, HaHa! (no kiddin', if you get homesick or have second thoughts...) Enjoy this time of your life and God bless! You are all big-time players and WINNERS in my book.
  23. Heard this yesterday...in his hometown. Congrats, indeed...BUT, truth is, he could've done this from GHS. I remember him dominatin' when he was like 7 or 8 years old in our local Jr. Pro league. He has ALWAYS played at a higher level than everybody else and it'll be cool seein' him on TV in a year or so. Belmont got a 'steal' and CB got a great coach. I can't help but believe that, had they stayed together, the 2011-12 GHS version of Bradshaw, Greer, Rhoten(s) & Holbert would be playin' in the 'Boro...and may've even won the whole thing...depending on the intangibles and, of course, coaching. This year's 'Bradshaw/Lindsey/Allsmiller-CPA' version should, too. I know one thing: CB will scratch, claw, fight and bleed to win. The question is, can his coaches motivate at least 4 more to do the same? Guess we'll see...
  24. LOL! As usual, you've got to get personal. Even though I could, on a larger 'hick' scale, I ain't goin' there... I would like to clear up one misconception, though: On your best day you couldn't 'mess with me,' boy! And you're right, life is good and I see most things simply. Heck, maybe I'll be lucky enough to see you around...and slap you with my cane for bein' so disrespectful...{HaHaaa...WINK!}
  25. Glad to hear you like it here...and have several vested interests. Is Kirk your uncle/cousin/whatever? Wrong. Don't have a 'dog' in the fight, presently, and never attended. Oh, yeah, the Herndon & Co. years. Hmmm...I DO know them very well. So, to you, making the playoffs is a real feat, huh? You must not think too highly of winning...'cause the way they're set up virtually ALL teams make it, even losers! I think you'd agree it's a joke... I know enough, but I don't brag about it or practically live here with multiple names.
