  1. Great post? You have got to be kidding! Not only did he get all the stats wrong, which he did, just go check it again, but he gave no supporting evidence to back up his opinion. I will get on here and say that Grace Academy is better than McCallie. They have a 4-0 record, McCallie lost a game. So what do you think of that? Where is the support for such an asinine statement? Come on you guys, if you are going to make a statment support it with some objective reasoning, and stop arguing like a bunch of emotional women. (nothing against women, only that the stereotype is that women are more emotionally argued than are men, it may be true and it may not). Robinson is very talented and has the "liability" of playing on a run oriented team, (some would argue that is no liability because he will get more pub becaues of it) but so is Skogen. How many times has our "poster" seen Skogen play? Probably zero and yet he is on here pontificating about that which he knows nothing. Temple's program is not what others are, not yet and possibly not ever, but that is no reason to take away from individual talent. Seth is 6'4" 215, runs a 4.65 as of last spring and has done pretty well. Give a guy credit for what he has done, it doesn't mean he is the best, it just means he has done well.
  2. A couple of things: First, it is true Temple throws more, averaging about 30 a game right now, and losing. SP I think threw 16 the other night. Second, SP and Temple play 7 common opponents, so the schedules are pretty close to the same. (Six region games and Sequatchie Co.) Third, I think it is true that Seth has and will continue to draw doubles whereas people can't afford to do that with Antonio because there are so many good players on that team. I see that as advantage to Seth, IF, he continues to play like he has. Fourth, Antonio is a senior and has that advantage as well as being a great athlete. It is arguable that they are the two best in the area. Fifth, because of SP's success, Antonio will get the publicity, for better or for worse that is just the way the world turns. If you want pub, you have to win. I hope they both do great, I love to see Single A players excel...it ignites all kinds of fun discussion on coach T!
  3. Just wondering if anyone has the scoop on Unaka. We have to play them and know literally nothing about them other than we have great respect for their school and coaches. Any info out there?
  4. I hope that you read what everyone else wrote on here and see the difference between "class" and you. By your remarks it is clear that Kevin Smithson is twice the man now, that you will ever be...unless of course you step back and take a good look at yourself. Kevin knows he did not play well, but I will promise you this, that YOU are the sissy, hiding behind a silly name on a board to slam someone who is out there with his team and his name on the line. Sequatchie Co's team was classy, well coached and just a darn good football team, that kicked our butts. My guess is you had nothing to do with it, and we will won't let your mouth tarnish what the Indians have accomplished.
  5. This topic is ridiculously stupid. Temple players have never even spoken about such, our goal is tonight's game, period...get better, play with heart and play smart. When I ask our team about CoachT, almost no one even reads this stuff. On another thread people say Temple kids are arrogant, that is probably the most disturbing thing I have read. You can say a lot about these guys and they are far from perfect but they are the best kids I have ever worked with and are anything but arrogant.
  6. For the most part you are right about what has to be done to get exposure. However, nowadays there are other ways. Some kids go to the one day camps at the schools they are interested in and if they can turn a head due to their athleticism, speed or strength, that too is a way to get notice. Again, a bit more difficult but it can be done. I threw to a kid in high school and another couple in college who played pro ball, one of them for 12 years. I see kids with talent, and one in particular with just as much high school talent as the kid who played pro, go virtually unnoticed. So marketing, camps and high school success all can play a part and of course the Lord's blessing. (You can insert "luck" if you want, but you were again right, we don't believe in luck.
  7. If that is what you were referring to then a couple of things First, you and 88% of CoachT folks are in agreement. Temple has their work cut out for them...fair enought. Sequatchie is in a no win situation, they SHOULD beat a tiny 3rd year program and if, if they were to get upset, "humiliations galor." (That is a quote from an Andre the Giant movie.) Second, if that is what you are referring, and I believe you, then you need to watch your antecedents when writing. NO where in your post would we be able to ascertain that your comments were to the game in general and not players specific. Just trying to be helpful. Third, I do think your posts are well thought through and well put. I hope that we at Temple can change your mind about us, but that is up to us to do.
  8. Sequatchie, I am a bit confused, what don't you see? The only thing that I said to which that makes sense in my mind is with regard to answering the question asked about what players on Temple are getting looked at. But I am still uncertain as to what about THAT you don't see. What I wrote is the truth, do you not see those schools looking at those kids? Is that what you meant? And if it is, you base that on....How many times have you seen them play? What are the weaknesses of each player that would make you doubt? (I am not saying there are none, for there are, but do YOU know them). Or is this just more, "they are from a small school so they can't be very good", stuff. Oh and by the way I left out a big one for Smithson, Wake Forest is very serious as well. Sorry for leaving that out.
  9. Some clarifications and conclusions: First, Temple has right at 55 boys in the high school, so we have about as many boys as most teams have players. The 184 number IS with the multiplier. Second, the following conclusions seem to be the thoughts of those around the valley area: 1. Temple has no business playing this game. 2. Temple is going to get killed. 3. Possibly Temple won't even score. 4. Temple is dreaming to think they have anyone who could play D-I.** Why are we even wasting our time to go over there? Oh well, I guess we will just show up and hold on to our fanny's and maybe pick up a first down or two...if Sequatchie will put in their C team. Temple will show up and play football. We will do the things that we do well and sell out like the coaches have taught their players to do. And this game will make us better than if we hadn't played it. We will make no excuses and play to win. Isn't that what this game is about anyway? **Just in case the inquiries are serious: Kevin Smithson has had two SEC recruiters on campus at the end of his junior year and is on the watch list at Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Eastern Carolina as well as a number of I-AA schools. Temple Coaches have spoken to Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Alabama coaches about Seth Skogen, (including Coach Shula himself) and he is on the list of other smaller D-I and D-II schools. Josh Smith went to a number of D-I camps this summer and has spoken to coaches from about 4 different schools. What does all this mean? Who knows, recruiting is a game, but those are the facts.
  10. Bigbody is right...read through it carefully and Temple guys or fans or whoever they are, are not saying anything about how good they are at all. The strongest comment made was in wondering if everyone thinks Temple is pushover...to which at least one thinks is the case. MCdad, I think you missed my point, maybe I was unclear, but it doesn't matter where you are from, the point is that you can't compare apples to oranges with regard to being a quality team. Single A quality teams shouldn't be compared to AAAA quality teams. Copper Basin and Whitwell make the playoffs every year and at least half the time will win a game or two before getting put out, that seems to be a quality program, at least in my opinion.
  11. I have no problem with your point that respect is earned on the field not on message boards, that is true, and I am not even offended that you would call us a push over, that's fine, we are a young program trying to get established. But I do think it is narrow to say that Sequatchie and SP are the ONLY quality teams we play. Remember, we are a single A team, and Whitwell, Copper Basin have solid established even "quality" programs. Ooltewah could get on here and say that YOU guys don't play any quality programs, after all you are playing Temple, Whitwell, South Pittsburg, Silverdale? (All single A) and not Ooltewah and the teams in their region. I think it is apples to oranges. Should Temple win, No we shouldn't, the pressure is on the Indians, not on Temple.
  12. Excuse my ignorance, but who and where is Chuckey Doaks? I have never heard of them. Was the comment about them being a powerhouse sarcastic? Are they a good team?
  13. All that bigbody is saying is that Whitwell isn't known as a passing team and so that might not be a very good measuring stick, although the Indians looked very good against it. Sequatchie's offense gives me a headache just thinking about it, they do so many things and do them well. I was very impressed with #26 what a runner and a great linebacker. The QB is very good as well. The fact is you can know what a team is going to do but that doesn't mean you can stop it. I think that goes both ways in this one, Sequatchie isn't in the dark about what Temple wants to do, we know that, they will be ready to play and well coached. We know we have our work cut out for us but that is what makes football fun. As far as Temple wearing down, I agree that will be a big question. We are in shape, great shape, but are we in the kind of shape Friday night will require? Ask me Friday at 11:00 pm, est.
  14. 46 points is a lot when you consider that Whitwell runs the ball most of the time, Sequatchie will run a lot as well so the game will go a bit faster.
  15. Mtnman, your assessment of Seth is probably right on. He could find himself caught in the middle. He has good speed, but probably not good enough to be a wide out, if he played TE, which he has expressed interest in doing, he would need to gain some weight, 215 is too light for that position. ON the positive, he is only a junior and has been lifting seriously for only about one year, we will have to wait and see how this year turns out. Baldcoach, I appreciate your comments, and your unbias opinion. Caleb's love is basketball and he is glad he made the decision he made.
  16. Refus22: Your comment is simply untrue. IN the scrimmage against Temple, the fight was instigated throughout the scrimmage by your player, his language was abusive throughout and on a number of occassions he was in the face of a Temple player using atrocious language. Then he gets ripped, and it was a nice hit, and the Temple player advises him to keep his mouth shut and your player starts throwing punches and swearing like a mad truck driver, (no offense to truck drivers) he even let it loose on the Temple coach who was trying to keep the kids separated and saving your boys life.
  17. I will throw in my two cents but I do want a qualification: I only saw Sequatchie and Whitwell at the Jamboree and only the first time they played, I couldn't stay for the second, so you guys help me if I am off base on this, which I might be. After watching both play I don't see how Whitwell will stop the Indians. Seq. simply does too many different things and does them well. No GREAT players just a whole bunch of very, very good players, you can't key on one kid and have to play them honest. Whitwell on the other hand doesn't appear to have much ability to throw the ball, so Seq will load the box and dare them to pass...can they? It didn't appear so. What do you guys think, did I miss something?
  18. Sunbright is simply not very good and they are not very disciplined. They get on each other quickly and even use foul language at each other. Two scrimmages, two fights. Some coaches like to use fear to motivate, scream and yell, belittle the kids, use sarcasm etc. That is one way to motivate but it seems to be it doesn't get the best out of people. Sunbright has some talent, but if they can't work together and put mistakes behind them, they will implode. And their QB has got a long way to go to be considered, "good".
  19. A few thoughts to consider: Seth is as big as Antonio Robinson and from the same size school and remember SP was 3-6 last year and yet AR got all kinds of acolades, and rightly so, he deserves them. Now, the teams will play the same level of competition, same region, so if, and that is an if, Seth does as well or better than AR, then why would he NOT get the same kind of attention? Other posts have made the point about A-AAAA etc. team wise there is no contest, but individuals can still be great regardless of classification. Herschal Walker played on a AA team, Brodie Croyle at a small Christian School etc. As for Caleb in the all state game, they threw to him once, in double coverage, the entire game. Ask any coach or player who was there for the week...he lit up the secondary all weak long. Call and ask Coach Fain at Boyd, who tried to convince Caleb that he could play SEC receiver and why Kentucky then asked Caleb to join them August 4th when they began practice, promising him a scholarship after he red-shirted to gain weight. Seems there are some people who know a bit more that those who post on here, coming to different conclusions.
  20. hey, how did yall look in your scrimmage today against Grace? At least I think it was today. Is Grace a pretty good team? Just curious what the early evaluations are.
  21. Knowing nothing about this team, what is it that makes folks think they will be getting better? What do they do? We are going to scrimmage them and Coach Newberry sounds like a tremendous guy. Any clues what they will throw at us?
  22. How big is Harb? I know he can throw, he is very impressive. Does he have the size and speed to play at a high level in college?
  23. I think people have to mention Kevin Smithson from Temple in this conversation. I know he gets short changed being at a small school, but as a junior he threw for over 2800 yards and 35 touchdowns, (both are Chattanooga city records) He is 6'2" 225 and has already attracted interest from Kentucky, Vanderbilt, East Carolina and a number of others. With Temple playing a very tough schedule this year if he performs well, he should silence any critics and be considered one of the best in the state.
  24. I think that is great, those kind of traditions is what makes HS Football what it is. I hope that at Temple we can develop some traditions over the years ourselves, being only 3 years old that will of course take some time. However, since we don't have any of our own, we will definately come to watch you guys in yours! Seriously, like I have said before, knowing what Sequatchie does and stopping it are two different things. Have a great year!
  25. I sure did not mean to insinuate that Jamborees are not fun or not helpful. It is my understanding that they give you a chance to go up against someone other than yourself before the season starts. We have a couple of scrimmages to do that and so the Jamboree doesn't serve that purpose for us. It is true as Big Body says that it gives opponents a chance to scout, but unless you are playing someone you have never played and it happens to be your first game, even that isn't going to matter. It just so happens that we ARE playing someone we have never played and it IS our first game. We are a huge underdog vs. Sequatchie and so we will take any advantage that we can get!
