  1. Big D, Just so you know I can assure you that I did not make the comment that you have been told that I made. I do not think anyone is "lying" about anything, just a misunderstanding. The reporter asked me what I was going to do after the championship game since we had made it that far and that is when I made my comment. I never said anything about "after beating CSAS", I have too much respect for coach Dragoo and how well he had his team playing to ever make such a comment. Humbolt was also a great opponent and we were very fortunate to get away from that one with a win, I am glad the game didn't last another 2 minutes. As to my arrogance, I have many sins that I pray the Lord will give me the ability to put to death and that is definately at the top of the list, but I do hate my pride and realize that there is no room for it in the life of anyone who truly understands the work of Christ. By God's grace I will continue to make strides against it. God bless you and all the Humbolt community, it was an honor to get to play your very fine team. Kevin D. Skogen (While on vacation)
  2. Part of me says to just stay out of this, but oh well. My concern is the way this topic has thrown around the label of what is Christian (Xn) and what is not. I would encourage us all to just step back for a moment and maybe look at this way. The Xn life is one of growing up, of maturing. These are young kids, young Xn kids, both #11 and the fans behind our bench as well as my son Seth. I think some folks stepped out of line a bit, and I am never condoning defaming language or losing control even for a second and reacting, however, we all do this in the heat of the moment, I, wrongly, make this same mistake and must seek the Lord's grace when I do so, we, all of us, need to mature and some times falling down is part of learning how to live the Xn life. We all look back on things we said or did and think how we should have responded differently, and thank the Lord that He never quits His kind work of grace in us. If we are willing to make decisions that someone is not a Xn because of a rough play in a bb game or because of a swear word, then I think we have some bigger problems, namely, that we might not know what the gospel is. I saw my son's actions, I understood them, especially in that situation, will he act the same way when he is my age? Probably not, (and he will be more mature than I am!) because the Lord will grow him up like He promises. Actions, even sinful ones have a context and as Xns we are to understand that, "let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall..." #11 was frustrated, he is an athlete, a competitor, and I would bet he is a pretty good kid, although I think his action was not the one to take, I would never make judgments about his love for the Lord based on one mistake. If that is the way we choose to live, then no one could be considered a follower of Christ, I know I wouldn't be. I would rather have people act as they are, even if it is rough and raw than pretend to play some religious game that is full of rules, self-righteousness,piosity and false at the heart, at least we can deal with that. Sorry, I got to rambling. Let me also say that the student section may have gotten carried away, and I was worried about what my 13 year old daughter who keeps our stats was having to listen to but that in no way reflects on the school as a whole. There is probably some repenting needing to be done, but MOST of the cheering and trying to distract us was just part of the game, and to tell you the truth, some of it was pretty funny, there were some good stingers in there that made me laugh. A number of FCS parents, faculty and staf came to me after the game and showed all kinds of class even apologizing for how things got a bit heated, (not that they needed to, competition teaches us, sometimes through our negative reactions.) I was not offended in the least and thought that those I spoke to were extremely humble and respectful. As Xns we see sin for what it is, and we must never down play it, but it would be wise to always see our own sin as the bigger problem than everyone else's. I know who the "chief of sinners" is, and it is not anyone at FCS, it is the dope who is writing at 6:07am on this post. Grace to cover all our sins....thanks for listening (reading) my rambling. Kevin D. Skogen
  3. There is no fine, there is no win/loss. But, so that everyone will be happy. The Picket Coach and the Temple coach have agreed to play January 20th at Pickett. And I will add that the PC coach is as classy a gentlemen as there is. Both schools are excited to play and look forward to a packed house.
  4. Iownyou is correct at least that we were in contact very early with Pickett's coach and he is the one who suggested that we wait until after our FB game with Trousdale. He agreed that if we won that game we would have to pull out of the Basketball committment seeing that we only had 3 players. As far as the fine, I know nothing about that, and Temple will not be counting those games as "loses" and I am quite sure Picket isn't counting it as a win. But in the long run, it won't matter anyway. Basketball is a tournament sport and we will have to see if we are ready to get wins come Feb/March.
  5. We called Pickett and asked them if they wanted to play 3 on 3 half court since we had only 3 players not playing football and shocker...they said no. What in the world do you think we should do? We can't play with 3 guys!!! And we are not afraid of a "L", we will probably have a number of them before the year is over. But what you are suggesting is just stupid and anyone who knows the game agrees including the Pickett Co. coach who understood completely.
  6. Seth pushing off: First of all on the touchdown there was no push off at all, not even an issue, the tape is very clear, he made a nice move to the post and got separatioout of his break, but it is very clear there was no contact. However, you might have an arguement on the long pass down the TC sideline that was a 50/50 call as he had to slow up a bit to get under it. We might have caught a break on that no call. As far as Seth always doing this, or being called on it this year, whoever said that it happened once is correct, only one. Now, maybe you all think that he does it all year and doesn't get caught, but he has only been flagged once this year.
  7. Oh, one more thing: Although SP is the class of the region, Whitwell and Lookout Valley are both loaded as well! We have never beaten Whitwell. Throw it Copper Basin and what is happening at Silverdale and Grace and we have a very competitive region.
  8. I will try and answer some of these questions for you. First, our program is nowhere near the level of a South Pittsburg. I believe it is one of the best programs in the area. Last year we played well for a half and were even ahead at intermission, but they were just too deep. This year they will even be better. Second, I don't have a roster handy, but we have right at 18 players and 11 of those are seniors. Third, we have one new player not 8 or whatever was suggested. He didn't play last year when he attended SE Whitfield, his parents are graduates of the University and moved into town. This has all been approved by the TSSAA. He plays QB for us and in the Lord's kindness, is just what we needed to make our offense go. Fourth, I love Tn Temple and all they have done for my family, and I hope my service to them has been and will be in the positive. I admit that I started this because of my own boys desire to play, but I will also admit that I love the young men on this team deeply and count it an honor to get to coach them. Fifth, my email is revkevrpc@aol.com for the gentleman who was asking. I hope we can be competitive in our region which in my opinion is filled with great football players and very classy coaches who hold themselves in a way that make their schools proud. There you go.
  9. We, at Temple, might be interested. Who and where? We are in a Jamboree on Saturday but would like to do something Thursday or Friday. Let me know who and where and if it works I will make sure I get ahold of you. Thanks.
  10. Indian and Wingman10 are exactly right! I too hope that both kids do very well and both are great players to be offered to play at that level. Sometimes I think people don't realize that ALL college football players at ALL levels are good and I-AA is excellent football. I am pulling for both young men. I have heard that both will red-shirt thier first year and then be a position to fight for the starting job as red-shirt freshman. It will be fun to watch.
  11. Temple will fight the same battle they have since they started a program. We have some very good players and the guys are working out as hard or harder than they ever have. The problem and it is a huge problem is that we don't have enough kids. 10 players will go both ways, and you just can't compete at a high level with only 18 kids on your team and 5-6 who have never played the game. But if we stay healthy and get in GREAT shape hopefully we can be somewhat competitive.
  12. I have to admit your response is disappointing, I expected such from the kids on here, but not from you. First of all, the offense did not score 63, there was a onside kick attempt returned for a touch, and I believe ( I might be wrong on this one) a defensive touchdown. Kevin threw for 350 yards and 3-4 touchdowns and played on a team that was greatly mismatched and very inexperienced and still put up 33 points, enough offensive power to win a game. I am sure Fiegler is a very good player, but Kevin is hardly "liver", give him his due. Remember, these are young people we are talking about.
  13. 1.The Skogens are not going anywhere, they will stay with Temple, feast or famine. (And believe me there has been plenty of each!) 2. There are two new kids as of right now, one is from Hixson but did not play any sports last year, he has been at Temple for most of the second semester. He is a good athlete about 6'5", good speed, good hands, will play opposite of Seth giving us two good deep threats. He also will play basketball, and although not a great shooter, he gets almost every rebound he wants to get and sticks it back well. If he plays that way, he will see a lot of time. Very good jumper. The other kid's family has moved to the area and his father went to the University some years ago. Great kid, 6'2" and happens to play QB and can throw it very well. He is probably a better basketball player than a football player, good shot and great hops. But that's it. I wish there were some big lineman that moved to town and wanted to go to Temple, but alas those are just rumors. 3. Temple will be competitive and will again struggle with low numbers forcing 9-10 kids to play without rest, tough to win with that scenario but we will do our best. 4. We will miss Dan's leadership, he has served Temple well and we have been blessed to have him, best to Dan and the Blue Tornado!
