  1. Pretty sure the Adamopolis family has been around Lexington a long time. If memory serves correct, he attempted a 50+ yd field goal as time expired in regulation against Hardin County, which had PLENTY of leg, just a wee bit wide. Certainly the kind of talent at kicker that you usually don't see in HS football.
  2. I would agree with the underestimation of JCS, and here's why. Check the stats. JCS has a legitmate quarterback in MacDonald. The kid can flat throw the ball. Regular season - 85 of 128 for 1,263 yds, 16 TDs, 4 picks. 66% completion rate, 14.9 yds per completion. Hayes for McKenzie puts up Playstation numbers, but his completion rate is 62%, with an average yards per completion of 17. MacDonald's not that far behind Hayes They've also got their top RB from last year back, Ragin, but he's been overshadowed by Nick Melton this year, who piled up 1,275 yds in the regular season, 14 TDs, and an average yards per carry of 10.8. The only player who had a higher average yards per carry was Buckley with Lexington who had an average of 11.1. Special Teams - Philpot for JCS, 0 for 1 on FGs, which speaks volumes to the power of the JCS offense, only attempting one FG on the year, 38 of 42 on XP during the regular season. McKenzie has an outstanding kicker in Laughery, but he was only 5 of 12 on FG, 30 of 39 on XP. Bottom Line. I think JCS wins, and I think it sets up a great game against JCS/UC in the third round, although I don't think UC should take FA lightly. That may be a close game.
  3. Here's the deal on Lexington. I'm not a fan of any one school in West TN, so I don't think I'm biased. They are one of the best teams in West TN in a long time. They don't have a weakness on offense. There are three kids in the backfield, Buckley, Smith, and Deberry who can each have 100 yds rushing in a game. All three hit that milestone in the same game this season. Load up the box to stop the run? That's when they go to the air. Smith and Threadgill both see time at QB, and Threadgill can air it out. 21-24 in one game this season, if my memory is correct. But if they can run, they won't pass - did not even attempt a pass against Liberty earlier this year. Kicking - one of the best in West TN in Adamopolis. Strong leg, consistent on extra points. Defense - Great DB's, good speed on defense. In short, if Creekwood knocks them off, I think it will be because Lexington made a lot of mistakes. If Lexington plays thier game, I think they get by Creekwood, setting up a showdown with Lipscomb in Nasville in the Quarterfinals.
  4. Taking Camden, but as a previous post said, only if they play a mistake free game. With thier ground game, and the Boyd brothers, they will be tough to stop. Serously, did anyone who's not a fan of Richland or Camden have these two teams getting out of the first round? I didn't. That's why they play the games. Congratulations to both schools, huge wins for both.
  5. I think the way it is set up is fine. Sure, you have a few 2-8 teams get in out of a weak region, but I'm guessing Dyersburg fans will tell you this morning that sometimes won/loss records can be deceiving. For a 2-8 team to knock off a 10-0 #1 team in the state is pretty special. Bottom line, gate receipts drive the first round of the playoffs, and I don't see any chaanges in the 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 opposite region structure.
  6. Union City, setting up an epic UC/JCS matchup in the quarters.
  7. I agree with Milan and Huntingdon in the quarterfinals. Those teams won by a combined score of 100-0 last night. That's peaking at the right time. With a less than 100% Markei Guy, I don't see Westview getting past Milan this week. And the brackets do show that the winner of the Milan/Westview game hosts the quarterfinal game.
  8. Congratulations to Gibson County. Definately the biggest upset of the year in West TN. I would've loved to have seen the fourth quarter of that game. Hearing the reports, I thought Gibson County had a chance early, but when Westview got on top, I really doubted Gibson County could come back. Shame on me. Wow. What a great ending to an obviously great game. Certainly, Gibson County showed last night they can play in the "SEC" Region of Class 2A. Undoubtedly, Milan, Huntingdon, Trenton, Dresden, et al threw a party last night when they heard the score. Makes that region a bit more wide open now. Should be a great region to follow the rest of the year.
  9. I'll take Gibson County over Westview. I know, Westview was without Markei Guy, and if tonight didn't tell the rest of the world that he is the best player in 2A, I don't know what will. Congratulations to Coach Doug Argo and the Pioneers. The turnaround in that program in the past two years...wow...it's hard to argue that the win against Obion Central last year to snap the 39 game losing streak didn't start something good. I would hazard a guess that the ONLY people picking Gibson County in that game last night, Guy or no Guy for Westview, would have been the most diehard Pioneer fans. Absolutely the biggest upset of the season in West TN. On another note, had USJ not collapsed late, they had a shot to beat Milan, leading them 15-13 midway through the third quarter. Great gameplan by Coach Marley to attack the Bulldogs through the air. They may not win many games in Region 7-2A this year, but they will adjust in the long run.
