  1. Not one to make excuses, but there were many factors in the memorable day mo west beat maryville. I can think of at least 4 off the top of my head. Mo West got lucky that day, anyone who says that isn't true that is dillusional. I'll say that about the '98 Vols too. I really can't see any team in 4A beating maryville this year. GQ just won't let it happen. This man needs to be the new UT offensive coordinator.
  2. I'm sure a few of the maryville teams ('98, '02, and '03) could be up there
  3. There is a probable lawsuit in the making over this, but I don't like the chances just because the lawyer who wants to represent the case for free is an alleged KKK member. I agree that this is a cowardly school board and director. If they would have came out and said we are banning confederate flag, I don't think it would have caused as much of an uproar. I'm extremely disappointed at this cowardly group of "leaders". I'm willing to bet more then 2 board members will lose their jobs if not all of the clowns, which I really hope happens.
  4. They have banned all flags from being flown in sheilds stadium. A complete BS reason in my opinion, citing "The safety of the fans" as the reason why, although to my knowledge and the school boards as well, there has never been a report of anyone injured by a flag or flag pole. The students have gotten creative though, wearing the flag on their clothing, which, as a friend of mr. dalton(director of schools,my neighbor), has really aggrivated him. It seems to me that this wasn't for the safety of the fans, but just another attack on school pride and history. I really think that they went about this approach incorrectly. Instead of the school board listening to what the parents and majority of students wanted, they think they know whats best, which in this case I believe they didn't. I think they should have polled the alumni, students, teachers, and city residents to find out what they wanted, which I believe would have shown a majority support for allowing the flag to remain. A few years back, the school tried to get the students to stop bringing rebel flags by instituting a "school" flag which they claimed the student body supported, but in reality the student body only supported it because they wouldn't allow the confederate flag. It failed because the students supported the heritage of the confederate flag, which has been used for a couple of decades now/
  5. I'm sorry, but to say maryville doesn't belong on the same field with any team in the state, is a gross mistake. I wish your team would think like that if they ever did play maryville. I'm pretty sure anyone that plays or coaches at riverdale wouldn't think that way.
  6. I think a game like this would be the challenge of a lifetime for GQ. Especially with this years team.(Probably the least tallented in the past 7 or 8 years, but when has talent been the issue with GQ) Fans around the state would probably flock to this one, would definitely have to be played at UM, MTSU, Vandy, or UT, because of the crowds. It would be bigger then when gerald riggs got his mouth shut a few years back by maryville. And you guys in riverdale, or any other team that says maryville is too scared to play them, you know, this invention called the phone, it goes both ways you know. I haven't heard about oak ridge, dobbs-bennett or riverdale burning up the phone lines trying to get a piece of maryville. This definitely would be the game of the this decade in tennessee sports
  7. Maryville's D coordinator Jim Gaylor. One of the toughest defenses in the state for the past 5 years. And how about a little love for Coach Ellis, the O-Line coach. Another masterful job replacing all 5 starters from last years 15-0 team, this years line looks to be just about as good.
  8. Until the best plays the best, no one will ever know, there will always be arguing. That said, I believe it could be a toss up between a few teams. Riverdale sounds like a loaded team this year, with their act together. Alcoa could be if it gets its act together. Until otherwise proven, Maryville has to be up here. About the whole riverdale beating the champions of ohio thing, we'll, maryville thrashed the team that thrashed the champions of kentucky(albeit i have heard they were weaker this season) that has to count for something, right? And just curious, how many times have the teams on paper that should be maryville actually beat maryville? The so called loaded teams that no one can stop but maryville routinely does. Not sure on the dates, some of the older posters can correct it, but pearl cohn in '97 and elizabethton in '99(not sure of team or date, i remember they had jason witten though)
