  1. Coffee County's high school was built in '76 or '77. My dad was in the last class to graduate from the old high school (which is now the jail and such). So, if by new you meant 30 years old, then yeah they have a new school. The stadium (which is located at the middle school right off of I-24) is NICE! One of the best visitor sections that I have ever seen (only because it was once the home side). Bring as many as you can to the game... There will not be a lack of seating. I can't wait to see this kickoff! Go Raiders!
  2. Wow, it's only Sunday and already 4 pages on this thread. Alright folks, that sweep versus Warren Co. was great I will have to admit. Coffee's defense really stepped it up in that game. The similarities between Tullahoma and Warren Co. were that neither could stop the run very well. We were able to run all over them. Both teams had problems with fumbling and muffing kickoff returns/punts. I am not at all sure what that was all about. I am not taking anything away from the CC defense. I am just saying that those two teams stepped on their own feet too many times. There are people on here saying that CC could take on the likes of Riverdale no problem and stuff like that. Coffee Co. can't get ahead of themselves too fast. Maybe CC could take on those teams... maybe not. What I am saying is that is too far down the line to be looking. It's especially dangerous for the players to be thinking that way. The players should have blinders on. The only game that they should see is the next game. Because when the playoffs roll around, you want to just speculate who the next team could be and it's just a distraction. That said, I would like to wish both teams luck. There is no more victory celebrations for last week... there is no game after Wilson Central. That is the mentality. Keep it clean. Go Raiders! I will just say that CC wins by under 10 points. From what I hear WC is pretty good, but I haven't seen them myself.
  3. Good Job, Raiders! Don't let this go to your heads though. Stay focused and over-prepared. There were some uncalled for penalties in this game... personal fouls and such. Let's try to keep it clean out there, fellas. Enjoy the win and start preparing for Wilson Central Monday! Great Game!
  4. Congrats on a very tense win, CC! This was a nail-biter to the end. I am liking the 4 RB combo that we are showing this year. Perhaps we should call the Raider run offense the "Big Red Machine." And, although we didn't see much of the passing game the other night, I am liking the potential at WR. The front seven of the defense is solid. The secondary is getting there. This Raider team is the most solid team that I have seen in a while. With a few more tweaks, this team could make it farther in the playoffs this year. Actually, I think that they could make it just fine the way they are now. Once the passing game matures into what it can be, this team will be a very well rounded team on offense. I am excited about this year! I know how hot it has been the past few months and to think that these kids have gotten all of this together and have stayed with it speaks volumes. You guys have the determination to be great and that is what it takes. So eat your veggies, listen to your coach, and shine under the lights! BC
  5. Yeah, everyone needs to step up. It's a team sport. I do think that the coaches are the key to this teams success. Technique is key. It would be nice if there were position coaches that could come in and help out, but that's probably gonna cost the school. I think that CC will do fine this year. I think we will see some team "icons" emerge from the rest. But, all in all, it is a team sport and icons cannot emerge by themselves. Always thank the guy next to you. Can't wait until Aug. 28!!!
  6. I've been begged to post something here, so here it is. Coffee County coaching staff needs to teach more technique at certain spots to become a real force. Last year, you could really tell who were students of the game and had a real initiative to learn more to perfect their skills. I haven't seen any practices or scrimmages yet, so I know nothing of the current state of the team. I just know that a lot of starters graduated this past year and that more inexperienced players will need to step up. I believe that they will. Coach Price does a good job with his players. Perhaps it's the lack of having a QB coach (I don't really know if they have one) to teach the QBs technique. Tackling and "staying home" was a huge problem last year and needs to be addressed. They need to open the playbook up in every game this year and not just in a few games. There were all to many times last year where I could predict the play and the opponents looked as if they could also. That reversal in the Warren County game two years ago was timed just right. Those are the kind of plays that you need up your sleeve. I'm gonna stop talking now. Later!
  7. I agree with most of the points here, but have some of my own that I'd like to mention. 1. Coach Price reverted back to his "run the ball on most every play" mentality somewhere around the second half of the first quarter. There were pass plays in there, but they were sporadic. This didn't work very well when CC was only getting a yard or two per play. 2. I do, however, understand why they went back to the run, run, and run again plays. Graham wasn't making any kind of reads. This is not a knock on any players, but I watched Smyrna's QB (Gray) and Tullahoma's QB (Cass). I took careful note of how they stepped back in the pocket and went through their progressions, checking off receivers to find an opening. Neither Nick Hibdon (CC QB last year) nor Josh Graham did this much at all. There was a go-to guy on a given play and that's where the ball was thrown. A lot of times it was thrown right into a Smyrna defensive lineman's chest the other night. The lack of technique that the QB has had the past few years at CC really reflects on the game scores. Yes, CC can win by throwing to go-to guys on every pass play and running over poor rushing defenses, but they will never win a playoff game until someone pays more attention to teaching the QB proper technique. 3. Yes, injuries played a part in the losses that CC had this season. For example, I believe CC could have won the Cookeville game if Harris would have been playing. You cannot control injuries. They happen. Linebacker Phillip Adcock was out all season due to an arm injury which occurred in practice before the start of the season. In his stead, Cory Cesielski (former running back) stepped up to play and played the LB position very well. 4. The tackling technique that most of the team showed this year was sub-par to say the least. There were some players that made a point to tackle very well, but most all of them will be graduating this year. Something like 7 or 8 of the defensive starters will be graduating this year. There will be players that step up next year to fill the voids. I just feel that tackling is one thing that the coaches should work on next year. Good defenses win games and good special team coverage can help your defenses to do so. After saying all of that, I would like to congratulate all of the Coffee County Red Raider players for another good season. You won the games that needed to be won and got a playoff spot. You played well and didn't give up. Good luck to those who will be graduating! For those who will be returning, train and get ready for next year's season. Never give up on the field or in the classroom. That mentality will take you as far as you want to go. See you guys next season! Oh, and I have to give some props to the Red Raider Marching Band! What former band member would I be if I didn't? You guys had a great show this year (you always do). Thanks for the stands tunes, mud, and the jungle beat to go along with the game! That about does it... I think I got everybody lol. Later
  8. wow... There is about as much punctuation missing from that post as there were penalties missing against FC the other night. I seen some holding that should have been called against FC, but wasn't. I guess that would make the missed calls about even. FC was simply out-played the other night. I guess it would have been a lot closer if Harris would have been out. Seeing how he took a potential score away from FC by intercepting in the endzone and then gave the offense an extra chance on the bobble INT for the 2nd one. Both teams played their best the other night (after the first few minutes) and the best team won. Good job, Raiders. And good luck to FC in the future.
  9. Hey. Maybe some FC fan will, I don't know, throw a Franklin County relic out on the field after a bad call and get a 15 yard unsportsman-like penalty against their team this year. You know... like CC had happen last year. For all we the refs knew, it could have been an FC fan over on the Raiders' side that threw the little football after a very bad call. Maybe we will see that happen in this game with FC. It would only be fair. Not that I endorse such activity, but it was a lousy call by the officiating crew last year. Raiders will win if Price has his head in the game. lol
  10. The Raider defense held Overton to 3 points in the first half of last week's game. I think the rain and lightning was a bit of a distraction for them in the second half when Overton scored their other 36 points. The Raiders have this game won if they can stay focused like the first half of last week's game. With Ryan Harris back, you will probably get to see some double digit differential in the final. Raiders win easily. CC=35 FC=17
  11. I was at the game... well, for most of the game at least. It started lightning and pouring and CC gave up some big plays and a turnover, so I left. At the half, it was 6-3 CC. The defenses were playing exceptionally well. After halftime (which was extremely boring with no shows BTW), the Raiders scored a TD making it 13-3. After that, Overton just snapped out of their slumber and CC seemed to start making some mistakes. The rain helped Overton by probably causing the turnover by CC, which allowed them to score. What happened next was two or three BIG runs by the Overton RB. The Raider D was caught out of position on both. After that, I left. It is quite amazing that it was all defense in the first half and all Overton offense in the 4th quarter. Overton scored three or four of their TDs in the 4th quarter alone. CC scored one in the entire second half. It was a real disappointing end to a real interesting and hopeful beginning. That is why we thought that CC might just pull out a win last night, SemperFiBlue (from MTSU who got STOMPED today by Oklahoma!). If you are going to just base all HS teams on what they always have been, don't bother posting. Teams change every year.
  12. On Monday's radio show, Coach Price was asked if he was going to run up the score against Cumberland County. His reply, "I'm gonna score as many points as I can." I hope he doesn't run up the score, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did. You guys are right about the high school kids working hard all year. The last thing they want to do is slack off. They've got 3 years to play for this team and they want to make the most of it. The coaches have more than that, but they want to win too. What I am getting at here is that it's not the players' fault. I didn't particularly like the playcalling last week, but Price had a reason to do what he did. When asked by a fan why he chose to use primarily one formation and a couple of running plays for most of the game, Coach Price replied, "Well, anyone who knows anything about football knows that was a stupid question." He then went off explaining that the only way to beat Tullahoma was to slow down the game and that is why he called the plays that he did. I understand the reasoning, but I disagree with the approach. However, I am not a coach, so I guess I know nothing about football. I don't think that playcalling will have as big of an impact on this week's game, but it definitely will the following weeks. I will be at the Cumberland County game and hope to see a good game filled with sportsmanship. Good luck to the players and coaches. I hope to see the injured players back soon. Later!
  13. I was so frustrated with the CC coaching staff that I avoided this site for a couple of days, but many here are wrong about CC's talent. Does CC have talented players? Yes, plenty. The problem here is the coaching staff. Well, mostly Price. After watching Coach Price for a few years, I have noticed that he is and always has been an aggressive coach. He absolutely hates to play the field position game and he has no patience. He sometimes let's early scores by the opposing team get him frustrated where he throws his hands up and calls dumb plays then blames the players for not winning. I am not making excuses for this teams losses. I am reporting what I see every Friday night. I pay close attention to things like play calling and the field position game. In Brentwood, the Raiders opened their playbook and made a comeback to nearly win the game. CC did the same with Shelbyville and Cookeville with the playbook, but had too many penalties and turnovers against the Cavs. At Tullahoma Friday night, Price defeated his own team with very poor playcalling. Eighty to Ninety percent of the plays consisted of a one wide receiver formation that included 3 RBs. Almost 100% of the plays from that formation were runs up the middle via the straight back (Aaron or LeHawkins) or runs to the side via the wing back who came in motion (Goins). They ran this formation constantly and these two plays were the Raider offense. The 2 times that they opened the playbook up with 4 WR or 3 WR sets, they moved the ball and scored on one account. They even scored on a run up the middle by LeHawkins (I believe). The only way that worked was because they spread the defense out with 4 WRs and ran straight up the middle. It doesn't take much of a football guru to tell when there is bad play calling in a game. In this game, it seemed that after the first drive Price just gave up on his play calling. After the half, the Raiders lost an onside kick which was kicked too straight. I understood the reasoning for doing that. You are down 28 to 0 and you need the ball. However, to come right back out after you put some points up and try it again while Tullahoma puts 9 players up at the front to recover an onside kick after the first failed is stupid play calling. I seen one play where Price went for it on 4th and 1 on their own 11 and failed after running with the same formation that they had used all game only this time it was a QB keeper. Price grabbed QB Graham's facemask on the sideline after the play failed holding up one finger screaming at him for not making the play. That was uncalled for. That 4th and 1 would have been converted if they would have used a different formation and anyone who watches any kind of football for a while should know that. You can't win a football game by using to plays back to back throughout. It will not work. Price gets the blame for this loss. It's all on him. Another thing... Cass Barnes is the real deal when it comes to high school football. I have to give Tullahoma that. I hope to see him playing college ball somewhere. T-town also has a great coaching staff and gameplanning technique. Even if CC would have played their best, it would have been hard to beat Tullahoma. They have more team chemistry and it shows. Good Luck, Tullahoma. Maybe Price will take a look at the playbook this week and decide to use some of those against the Jets... I guess we will see.
