  1. south panola hasn't lost a game since the 2002 5a state championship game, with that loss being the only one that year. they have a 43 game winning streak. they are ranked in the top five of the tony poll, in the top ten of both usa today and prepnation. the 2003 team was unapproved website mythical national championship runner-up, 'losing' only to de lasalle, ca. south panola has two of the best h.s. coaches in the country. the talent every year is amazing...the depth this team has is incredible. when you see south panola play it's like watching a college team against a high school team. sp is poised to win their third championship IN A ROW, all three with undefeated seasons.
  2. i'd say in this case it was deliberate scheduling of 'cupcake' teams. this is the third year in a row that olive branch had the same schedule. their excuse is/was 'no one wants to play them-- they are too good'. their scheduling came back and bit them in the butt but good.
  3. and according to the new usatoday poll, south panola jumped from #14 in the nation to #12. also jumped from #15 to #14 on the prepnation poll.
  4. no, not really. starkville's moved up to #4 in the state and that is probably the next 'big' game on november 4th. olive branch was really the team that some people thought would have a chance to beat sp. south panola looks like another lock on a 5a state championship and another undefeated 15-0 season, hopefully! no counting chickens before they hatch, though... if the tigers aren't beaten this year, the talk is it may be another two years before they lose a game. there is an incredible group of underclassmen coming up and coach woods has said that his tenth graders will most likely be the best team he has ever coached. if everything holds out, looks like another trip to jackson this december.
  5. you hit the nail on the head. olive branch bragged and bragged that they would beat south panola BASED ON THEIR OPPONENTS THIS YEAR!!! the fact that they ran up those scores playing their first string well into the second half didn't impress anyone. imo, they didn't belong on the field with south panola friday night. it was evident from the beginning. the clarion-ledger out of jackson, ms had an article titled "T.H.P.A." in their paper friday. that was short for "they haven't played anybody". so really, i'd say everyone BUT olive branch agrees with your post.
  6. i can promise you south panola wasn't scared to play you. chances are they had a bigger rival or scrimmage planned. south panola gets a lot of requests to play. may have just been they weren't open for then.
  7. Olive Branch was destroyed last night by South Panola, MS. The score was 27-3. SP's defense completely shut down Olive Branch and their Dandy Dozens. here's a link http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll.../510080350/1117
  8. i think if sp hadn't had their second game cancelled due to katrina, their ranking would be higher. but the good news is they've picked that game back up. i like usa today's poll better, lol.
  9. from what i hear, it was televised in memphis. maybe a fan from that area could give you a heads up about where to get a copy from...
  10. in mississippi no one, really. sp never gets ranked high at first because of the clarion-ledger. they NEVER rank sp pre-season #1. i really do believe that there is a biased attitude on some polls. i notice in prepnation sp just now broke into the ranks, but i believe that is because they've only gotten to play two games so far. good news is that we picked moss point, ms back up for a game on 9/27. that was the game that had to be cancelled the week of katrina. moss point is on the coast so it was just unable to play. south panola ends up in the top ten at the end of the year but i always wonder if they were ranked at the start like they should have been, we'd be in the top five for sure. last year sp ended up at #7.
  11. south panola, ms is ranked 18th in the nation
  12. forgot to add...it wasn't patrick turner at the time, can't think of his name.
  13. head coach at south panola, north delta, seems like at a coast school also...can't remember for sure. several places i know...
  14. i went to san antonio to the game and he did shut down the number one receiver at the time. dp's Unapproved Website ranking jumped about ten spots after that game.
  15. i don't know what the deal with north panola is, to be honest. it is a smaller school, but after all south panola isn't that big. it's in a small town. willis wright (defensive coach) is arguably the best coach ever in ms h.s. football history. he came out of retirement to coach at sp again. coach woods, our head coach, has led various teams to state championships. in fact, there are a couple ex-nfl players coaching at south panola. we too have a large coaching staff. they are taskmasters to be sure. the players work out all year long. south panola is full of speed also. derek pegues graduated last year, he ran a legitimate 4.4 40. at the notre dame nike camp they nicknamed him smokehouse. at this year's army all-american game he played cb (at sp he played qb and cb). derek shut down completely the nation's number one receiver. at last year's 5a championship game derek set a state record, 5 rushing tds. the scary thing is that this year's qb is faster than derek was last year....it's gonna be fun to watch. it would be awesome to see a match up between these two powerhouses.
  16. we are 32-0 with our last loss at the 2002 5a state championship game. would be 47-0 if not for that loss. we ended last season #7 in the nation and last week were #21 in the nation, not sure about this week's ranking.
  17. in batesville, ms. about 45 miles south of memphis, tn.
  18. all positions, really. coach woods did say that this year's OL is the best it has ever been. a lot of tradition at south panola.
  19. ha, we have the same arguments on the ms boards. south panola vs. wayne county and so on. who is the better team, etc. a lot of posturing and stuff. sometimes it gets heated, as those wayne county fans get kinda crazy lol. would love to see a south panola/riverdale game though. we got an opening for 9/23....
  20. i would like to see south panola play riverdale. i think it would be an interesting game for fans and players.
  21. don't know enough about other west tn teams to say for sure, but south panola regularly beats other teams by at least 20 pts a game.
  22. as far as i know they are. most people look for clarksdale to make it to the championship game. south panola beat clarksdale in the season opener. if clarksdale comes from the north and wayne county makes it from the south, that will be an awesome 4a championship. wayne county was the last team to beat south panola back in the 2002 5a state championship game. WC was 5a that year. if it hadn't been for WC, SP would be 45-0 instead of 32-0 now.
  23. thanks for the info....don't really know much about Carver so i'm interested in them. thanks again!
  24. Just wondering if anyone could give any info about Carver? They are traveling to South Panola this Friday. Good luck to everyone!
