  1. Happened a lot last game as well. Congrats on the hard fought win this year Maryville. Good luck rest of the way.
  2. Was the final score the same as the rumored one I have heard?
  3. Did Greenville get the L? What was the score? I wanted them undefeated when Alcoa came to play.
  4. Any reason to pull Voytik when only down by 21 with time left to go? I guess to avoid injury is the only one I could think of. Just surprised to see that. He was a good QB, but those around him left him facing pressure all day. Not much a pocket QB can do when being chased non stop. Alcoa played very conservative and did enough to win but nothing jaw dropping on offense. I assume the big game coming up impacted some play calling. This game presented many coaching points for the week. Not being able to punch it in down close to the endzone was shocking, props to Cleveland on the stop. As for the take away 3 plays and it is 0-0. Who knows what would happen if those didn't. Maybe instead of the punt return they drive down the field and score. Maybe Oggs only gets a first but Alcoa continues to drive, etc. Fact is Alcoa had 21 and no reason to open the play book against Cleveland. I imagine had the game been in doubt there would have been a great variety to keep Cleveland honest.
  5. Good catch, slip up on my part. He has done great things at Alcoa for sure. Having the same coach for more than 2 years help a team progress. With him and Jim Blackford plus a growing feeder program things are looking up for Alcoa.
  6. Congrats Alcoa! I wish I could have made the match last night, but work prevented it. Luckily I was able to make it to their senior night. That group has accomplished a lot for the program, and Gossett has really got the team on track. I for one was glad to see how far some of the guys have come since I coached them in middle school. I am excited to see Alcoa continue to grow. Go Alcoa, take down Stone Mountain aka memorial, whoops!
  7. He has now claimed the SEC record for all purpose yards.
  8. Hate to hear McMinn Central lost their team. My first ever match was in their gym. Also did not know Greenback was struggling. I hope the best for their program. For a young program starting around 2000 they accomplished a lot. Gossett has certainly done great things for Alcoa, I just hope I can make it to a match with work and all right now.
  9. No one denies we have students from out of the district. They pay tuition and qualify. All legit, as it always has been. Some of them even play football, many others simply attend school at Alcoa. However, we do not have coaches calling 10 year old kids and try to get them to Alcoa.
  10. Well why don't you take that to the TSSAA then. You are so full of it. Envy, it just isn't pretty.....
  11. You are delusional as well as ignorant. You can't even tell at 10 years old what athlete they will be. If you really think Rankin calls 10 year old kids, I have some ocean front property in west TN you can buy. So produce evidence and not he said she said garbage or shut up. I'm calling you on it as well. You are a liar, and the color green isn't very flattering on you. I graduated with some guys from the Eagleton area. It is closer to Alcoa than Heritage, and the kids didn't even play ball. We take non ball players as well, but I'm sure you have no use for them. Let's see, Alcoa has a better student teacher ratio, higher scores on tests, a proud tradition, very diverse and is not over crowded. Seems like we wouldn't have to recruit.
  12. Time to cut Quarles and find a coach that can win these games. Such a shame because he did so well in the real one. Maybe the Easter Bunny can handle the imaginary situations.
  13. Here are facts: It is legal. Always has been. It will not change, Alcoa has top notch academics and football. Want to keep parents wanting to send students to your school? Then raise the bar and perform. Will you be happy if we have a multiplier? I could live with it.
  14. I was rather certain in the policy posted, or the following page it mentioned paying fees in addition the the application fee paid when it is turned in. Alcoa also has strict criteria. You must be a good student both grade and behavior wise. It also depends on room available. Alcoa does not just take everyone. Where can I find milan listed as closed and see alcoa listed as open? I am just curious. Again, I have no issue with a multiplier if everyone wants to enforce it equally. If you accept any out of district I believe the TSSAA would treat it as such. I respect the Milan program, and have nothing against them. I just want everything called what it is.
  15. You apparently know brick wall very well. Alcoa is open zone. Milan is "closed" but allows for out of district students that pay tuition. Therefore, Milan does accept non resident students. Not a big deal, but don't play word games when the procedures for an out of district student to attend Milan is in THEIR policy. Under the rules it would be possible for a stud ball player from an opposing school district to attend Milan. What was the reason behind the forfeiting of the wins?
  16. I see no real issue. It only involves homeschool students if I read correctly, and the 20 miles is for private schools. I could be wrong though.
  17. Silly mountaineer, there is no way Alcoa high school could hold that many students. I'm not sure they have 1500 from K-12. They might now, not when I attended though. But, if we go 6A do we get the privalege of beating our county friends again?
  18. TSSAA cannot tell a school if they can be open zoned or not. Open zoning is done for education, you know, the thing all schools are there for. If you want to add a multiplier to Alcoa, go for it. Just be prepared for a blanket rule such as: Any school accepting applications for non-district students and accepting tuition students will be subject to a multiplier in all sports. The # of schools this would hit is huge. Many schools would suffer in many sports, Alcoa would win still. I also don't agree with the multiplier on CAK. 1.8 seems steep.
  19. I did read, and like Alcoa non district students can attend. At Alcoa you must also meet criteria and apply. Space is also a factor. Milan is not a closed district and if Alcoa had a multiplier so would Milan. I'm not afraid, are you?
  20. Any Alcoa fan should know that when playing Maryville a victory is never certain and must be earned. I like our victory earlier this year, and of course I think we could replicate it (maroon goggles). Each team gets one shot at bragging rights for a year, then we should cheer for the other to get another gold (good job Rebels!). Maryville is, IMO better than Greenville and Webb.
  21. IMO, you either are open zoned, or you are not. If you want to call for a multiplier to any school allowing non-zoned tuition students then it goes across the board, all sports, all schools. Not just the successful ones as some may hope. If you are DII is one sport you are DII in all. If you are subject to OZ multiplier in one, it is a multiplier in all.
  22. Tax dollars and choice. You must choose to go to a private school. Majority of students at a public school, even open zoned schools, are there due to the zone. Just because a student can go on tuition does not mean we recruit at all. I'm not 100% up on the whole DII issue and won't pretend to be. But Alcoa is a public school under the regulations set forth by the school district long before the dominance began. How many schools accept tuition students? Do you want a multiplier to all of them just so Alcoa can win in a higher class?
  23. Maryville is going to be scary next year (and many years coming).
  24. I have a huge issue with going to a closed zone. It isn't all about sports. Objective #1 is education. If you can pay tuition and have your kids in a top school system that is great. I hope when I have kids I can send them to Alcoa if I live in Knox or elsewhere. Simply because of education. If you want what's best for a kid you send them to the best spot for them. You seem to act as if the open zone is there only for sports. When I was at Alcoa, and it may still be the same, if you resided in the city you paid city and county taxes and had the option of going to WB or Heritage for FREE (except taxes). So Alcoa had competition there as well. So, should we close the zones just because we do well in football and take away a very valuable education option? Do you really understand that focus #1 is education and what's best for the kids? But just for fun, let's assume any school that allows any # of tuition students becomes open zone, what then. How many move up? I bet a bunch would, but only the successful programs are focused on. Newsflash, move Alcoa up and they have still won 7 straight IMO and CAK would have some titles as well. Wouldn't benefit Milan as much as you may hope!
