  1. You can go to www.middlesborodailnews.com and there is a link to go to the Claiborne Progress website there. The Daily News usually carries more scores though.
  2. Don't count AE out over one loss! I've had them picked for the state tourney since October...they'll be there. I guarantee it!
  3. I would have loved to have seen that game at PF. We went to the one at Claiborne and PF just did not play their game at all. Also in the box score Ramsey had 20....I heard that was her career high? That's hard to believe...but it seemed by the score by quarters that PF had them beat in the 1st quarter. Besides, Pigeon Forge is a hard gym to play in!
  4. With their win Friday night at Rutledge, the 05-06 Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers became the first team in school history (only 3 years I know) to win 20 games. Their record is now 20-4, with one regular season game left at Union County this Friday night. CONGRATULATIONS LADIES! We coulnd't be prouder! Cumberland Gap will enter the tournament as the #2 seed and will play the winner of the #3 and #6 team on Tuesday February 21st.
  5. District 2AA schools traveled last year though. Next year it will be somewhere up there I'm sure they aren't sure where yet though. Union County is a fairly new school. Very clean, nice people, who will strive to make everyone comfortable. I'm not sure how it ended up that our district and regional will be there, but it's a good school to host both. The gym is large, probably holds around 2,000. Not a lot of places to stay or eat there....but just about a 20 minute drive to Knoxville. I hope everyone will make the drive. This should be a wonderful tournament season! Also, we play at Hancock every year. We used to be in their district as well, and it was one of the biggest rivalries ever. You can't ask for better people than that. They are always willing to do whatever they can to make the teams comfortable and have them fed well. I agree...the food is always great!
  6. Not sure how far you're willing to travel, but LMU has a team camp the first or second week of June every year. Generally has about 40 teams, guaranteed 2 games a day and a tournament on Friday. Very good competition, played in well air conditioned facilities at Cumberland Gap High School and Tex Turner Arena. Contact Roger Vannoy at LMU (423) 869-6241 And also in Destin, FL there's a camp called Beach Bash. Cumberland Gap girls went last year and we had a blast. It's a fun way to allow the girls to spend 4 days together doing nothing but playing ball and bonding. It's kind of high, but the competition was good, with teams from about 8 states, and the atmosphere was wonderful. They have a website.
  7. The district meeting isn't until Friday at 11 A.M., so after that we'll have to brackets and game times. Tournament is to be played at Union County, beginning next Monday, the 20th. But what about the upset at Pigeon Forge on Friday night? PF 40-Claiborne 24?
  8. I will say you figured me out, but I can promise you my Dad can barely check his e-mail. He just learned to turn on his computer a few months ago. MRV1 is not a CG coach. We've been wondering who it is as well. Good luck to everyone as well, and I agree the tournaments should be a lot of fun for some, but they'll be rough for some others! By the way a few of you Pigeon Forge girls could be a little more respectful after you've just been beaten. None of us appreciated the comments that were made after Friday nights game. And nobody's hiding behind a name...
  9. Just guessing but when you said #14 did you mean #10? Michelle Simmons led Claiborne with 21, which was mostly free throws at clutch time. It's easy for somebody who just sees scores or occassionally goes to a game to think that Claiborne is the better team. Mentally, they are stronger, but I would not agree 100% that they are the better team. I predict a third match-up in the district Championship at Union County. It's a neutral site, and in tournaments the atmosphere is always great. And I do not feel that their offense is based around #10, Whitney Vannoy, at all. Sure they may go to her in clutch times, but when all is said and done the open man takes the shot, or someone penetrates and kicks it out to the wing, or they score on the break. Everybody whines and complains about Claiborne not getting any credit, but nobody wants to see that Cumberland is a different team than they have been in the past and certainly has handed every other team in the district a few losses. And finally #24 and #33 are both strong post players, but Coach Vannoy has a rotation that has worked all season long. When they are in foul trouble or need a break the post players rotate two at a time. Check their record before you criticize his coaching methods. Both teams deserve respect and they get plenty of it. They both have packed gyms for every game and this entire county supports both schools very well. And mrv1 is not a CG coach, but I do agree ON FRIDAY NIGHT Claiborne was the best team.
  10. Cumberland Gap girls game sceduled tomorrow with Campbell County has been cancelled. The boys will still play as scheduled.
  11. I've watched Thompson play since she was a 5th grader and I agree. She's a very talented player. She's smart, doesn't make bad decisions on the floor, and has a great attitude. It made a big statement about how this area feels about Claiborne High School when her parents moved to Oak Ridge.
  12. Nice prediction I must say! They were both pretty good games. I was suprised I have to say I thought the Gap girls would win and the Gap boys would get blown out. Way to go boys! The Gap girls did not bring their A game, and by the time they play again at Cumberland Gap in January it should be a different story.
  13. I have to say that I unfortunately know the entire family. Whitney Parkey is fine and healthy as a lark. Coach Parkey's other daughter Kelly has been sick. He's way to stubborn to resign in mid-season, everyone should know that. He will however be moving to Oak Ridge I believe when Whitney graduates after next year. He will be one of two vice principals there. Everybody come out to the GAP and CLAIBORNE games tomorrow night...girls at 6:30 boys at 8:00! Should be some good ones! GO GAP!
  14. These girls have been playing against eachother since they were in 5th grade. Cumberland Gap graduated no seniors last year, and has made an impressive 7-1 start to their season. Tomorrow nights game should be an interesting one. If you're looking for somewhere to go tomorrow night head on down, Varsity girls begins at 6:30! GO GAP!
