  1. Not having the best officials possible was out of my control. The Chattanooga officials could not attend because their assigning official needed them for local tournaments in their area. The local officials that we have that are quality officials could not attend the event either so I was stuck with a crew unfamiliar to the level of competition that was in this event. Although we did have a few stripes in the gym this past weekend that did well given the rigor of calling so many tough matches and yes we also had officials that was in way over their head and instead of trying to rely on the better officials in the room for guidance or suggestions would rather just keep calling bad matches. I know my area doesn't have the best reputation for having great officials across the board but we do have some that work hard and do a good job, so to lump all of our area into that category is just not fair. The officials in Virginia are not world beaters and would not have been a fix to our problems last weekend. This tournament has and will continue to improve if we can get that guy who organizes this tournament to not suck as DaChamps says, maybe we can get his act together soon!
  2. We typically bring in a group of officials from Chattanooga along with some of our more seasoned East TN association. This year because the way the calendar feel there was more tournaments in the Chattanooga area which did not allow the Chattanooga group to attend. We used a combination of Knoxville and our local officials which if it would have been our best group possible there would have been no problem. Unfortunate for all involved we had only a few of our more experienced officials in the gym that day which made for a long day for wrestlers, coaches, and the officials. I actually felt bad for some of the younger officials that were put in a bad position that was a no win scenario for them no matter how consistent their calls were last weekend. It was a great weekend with a lot of great wrestling, might have been the toughest Fandetti I have been a part of since coming to Science Hill.

  5. The Fandetti Brawl is quickly approaching and it appears to be a strong event this season with several quality teams coming into Johnson City for the weekend. 2016 Teams Bradley Central Christian Brothers Pigeon Forge Eastside (SC) Woodford Co (KY) Lake Norman (NC) North Henderson (NC) Just to name a few top contenders Wrestling starts Jan 8th at 4:30PM with the Moffat Duals then the Fandetti gets started on Jan 9th at 9:00AM
  6. I see Bradley being the front runner this season. In a dual setting Bradley will be hard to beat because of their depth in the lower to mid weights. Bradley has a few upper weights that will score points for the team putting together a strong dual team with an even stronger traditional tournament team with the possibility of so many high medalist Bradley is my choice for the double crown this year. I got to see Beech, Wilson Central, and Independence this past weekend and all three has strong teams and will compete with Cleveland in both the duals and traditional tournaments. I have not seen Summit this season but hear they have a strong team and will be in the mix come February. I don't know if S. Creek is that high in the pecking order, could be wrong just have not seen them this season. Centennial has a few strong kids may not be a dual contender having to go through both Independence and Summit. Soddy will put 14 tough kids in the mat for sure just not confident they will get in the mix at the state duals given their geographic placement. Teams Not Mentioned I think Knox Halls will put a good group together and be able to compete in the team competition come February. Tennessee High has plenty of strong kids in their room and will produce a few state medalist this season but has holes in some weights that might keep them from being a top 4 dual team this season. I've seen Walker Valley but it was early in December and I'm not sure how their lineup will shake out? 1.Bradley 2.Wilson Central 3.Beech 4.Cleveland 5.Summitt 6.Independence 7.Soddy Daisy 8.Knox Halls The others I just don't know enough about to rank or put in the list without causing an issue with people getting bent out of shape with their team not being mentioned.
  7. I am the Head Wrestling Coach at Science Hill in Johnson City. If you would like to talk about our area schools please drop me a line on my email. I would be glad to speak with you Jimmy Miller Millerj@jcschools.org
  8. November 22 @ Science Hill High School Hilltopper Challenge JV Only Tournament, No Varsity Brackets We will also be hosting a girls division that day for any teams that want to bring their girls. I am trying to incorporate a middle school division but running into some issues given that we are a TMSAA school and currently we are only allowed to wrestle other TMSAA schools during our season. As of today we are not hosting a middle school division that day but will continue to try to find a way to have this division. This puts our middle school program at a disadvantage and will try to find a way to improve the situation and have the opportunity to wrestle some of the AAU Club teams in the East TN Area. Contact Jimmy Miller millerj@jcschools.org
  9. I have had a team drop our tournament today from West Virginia so we are in need of a 10th team for this event. 14. Please keep in mind as we start to make predictions and possible match ups that our region is now split into A/AA & AAA. Unless something happens or some of these teams run across each other in a tournament or regular season match these match ups will not take place. Currently Greeneville & Science Hill do not have a scheduled match and will not wrestle each other this season. Since Greeneville is a small school they will compete in the A/AA Region 1 tournament which Science Hill, Dobyns-Bennett, Tennessee, and Morristown East & West will all be in the AAA tournament. 20. Add Father Ryan to our tournament to make team #17
  21. Dual Format: Cleveland Duals- This tournament is jam packed with great talent from Georgia, Alabama and a good representation of both public and private schools from Tennessee. Smokey Mountain Duals- Coach Foreman puts on a 1st class show in late December featuring schools from several states. I have never attended this event but from the teams listed I am sure it is something to watch. Individual Format: Soddy Daisy Showdown- This tournament has grown over the years and is easily one of the best in the state each year. This event will be great if the format works and god forbid the power doesn't go out. G.P West- Coach Blair has ran this tournament for years and it continues to grow each year. Black Horse- Walt puts on a great event, with strong teams from outside of our area. McCallie Invitational- I have not been to this tournament but I can remember years looking back at the brackets and wondering how the kids survived. I hear the venue is great and I am sure the coaching staff has this tournament right where it needs to be each season. Bradley Invitational- Continues to pack in great wrestling along with tradition in a 1-day event. This tournament gets a solid draw from Georgia along with teams from Middle TN. Fandetti-Richardson Brawl- We are trying to grow this tournament each year. We try to get in several schools from other states and make the level of wrestling the best it can be for a 1-day event. The format is a modified pool tournament so each wrestle will wrestle more matches then a traditional tournament. I am sure there are several more quality tournaments each season in our state but these are the ones that stuck out to me Ooltewah Invitational Chattanooga Central Invitational Dyer-Garner Duals (Tullahoma) Indian Classic (Dobyns-Bennett) Halls Invitational McGavock Invitational
