  1. Interesting that when he was hired a lot of people didn't think that offense would work at TN High. Now it's probably what the majority of people want. Shane is a good offensive coach and TN High has a good staff. If the right guy comes along in the search then hire outside. If the right guy is on staff hire him. It's really not like TN High has a history of coaching turnover. Just be open minded.
  2. Thinking outside of the Cleveland box... what about Cummings at Knoxville West. If you know any history Knox West was pretty much a perennial .500 or less program and sometimes much less before him. Not sure what all has changed there but at least appearance is he has done a really good job. Before him in like 1999 they came here and we destroyed them. I'm pretty sure he was the coach when they came here and beat us in the 1st round in like 2003 or so and we were ranked #2 in state. Then we went there a couple years later and they killed us in the 1st round. Since then they have been pretty good. Last year went to semis I think and this yr they are rolling again. He probably wouldn't come but if a committee or administration doesn't ask no one will ever know. Just taking applications that come in doesn't always get best man.
  3. Funny thing is that the West school zone is the 2nd richest zip code in Knox County. 37909, 37919 are part of the West zone. School just sits where it does but there are more money in Sequoyah Hills and Westmoreland Estates with million dollar homes than in entire Grey, TN area. I'm pretty familiar with upper ET and that is a fact. Not that I really care about an idiotic comment like was posted...I just think it's funny.
  4. Not that I really care about the score but in all fairness to West...the scoreboard guy had some obvious Maverick goggles on. On scoreboard he counted a JV TD for AC but when West scored with JV guys he didn't add it. Again, not a big deal. It was very obvious the West coaches didn't care about either. There starting RB didn't play after the 1st series. A lot of 2nd guys played very early on offense and defense. Starting OLine appeared to play a lot but not skill guys. I know on defense the DB's, LBers all changed beginning the 2nd series. West freshman scored at will. AC did appear to have some things going though.
  5. they didnt really run speed option at all last year. They ran it several times when I saw them play. Whenever Francis was in shotgun they ran speed option a lot. He would attack downhill outside and either keep or pitch. They also ran a lot of counters from gun.
  6. I think West does a pretty good job of adapting to their qb and personell. First of all didn't Francis last year pass for over 1300 yds? Not incredible but pretty good for a kid that was a runner first. Second, I remember Jake Ryan passing for 2400 yds his senior year and over 2000 his junior year. I do believe they like to run first but don't just load up in the box if they have a qb that can throw at all bc they have passed for plenty in recent years. I remember years ago when the big qb was there, Varnado I think. That guy rushed for over 400 yds and passed for over 1400. West seems to have gotten a little more defensive last year which has to be nice for a coach that went several years being good on offense but couldn't stop the good teams with defense. AE returns a lot of players even with their qb transferring. Should be a good game no doubt.
  7. I guess players that made all state last yr. and were underclassman would have to be considered first. 2 from Knox West were all state last yr. George Bullock a rising senior kicker and Ryan Francis a rising junior free safety that had 8 INT's last yr. as a soph. Ryan is Jeff Francis' (former UT qb) kid. I heard he only started the last like 7 or 8 games of the season. Bullock is pretty impressive. His video is on youtube 'George Bullock Kicking'. FG percentage not great but in hs that may be partly snap and hold. But he kills the ball.
  8. East TN 5A should be very top heavy. Middle TN and West TN should have more 5A teams that have shot at state. But the East TN teams that should challenge those are very obvious...Powell and Knox West. Powell clearly has a lot of returning talent. If they can find a few Off. and Def. lineman they will be very tough. Schedule is pretty week. Really Oak Ridge may be only really tough game in the region. The region will be pretty bad next yr. with all other teams being down. Knox West may be the best East team though. Playing their schedule really prepared them for the playoffs last year. IF they can stay healthy throughout their brutal schedule they will again be very ready for the 5A playoffs and more so than Powell or any Upper East team. They should again be very good on defense and maybe better on offense than last year. Ask Anderson County if that would be good for everybody. Knox West 55 Anderson County 12 last year. The 7-0 loss to Columbia in the semis proved pretty impressive after Columbia physically whipped Hendersonville the next week to win the gold ball. Cleveland returns some really good athletes. Ooltewah now in 5A..they have a chance to be good on defense so should be a top team. South should be pretty good but not enough peices to compete in Knoxville area. TN High...no way Boone may have a chance again but as they saw in playoffs...gotta have some athleticism/speed and they don't have it. Catholic may be better than people think. Losses of graduation and a couple of kids that transferred away will seemingly hurt but not so fast. They may come together and play for each other more this yr. and that can make a difference. Last year they laid down sometimes. Some new coaches and everybody going in same direction may make a difference. But...not enough to get passed Powell or Knox West Morristown West will be a TON better. They return a lot and if that tailback is healthy behind that big line they will come out of Upper East. Morristown East maybe too. They have a great athlete that is young. As he goes the team will go but they should have some decent kids around him. Not during season but after playoffs I think it will end up like this in East TN. 1. Knox West 2. Powell 3. Cleveland 4. Ooltewah 5. Morristown West 6. South 7. Anderson County 8. Boone 9. Catholic 10. Lenoir City (got some good transfers) Like last year Knox West may not be so sexy after loss to Maryville and maybe 1 or 2 more with their schedule but come playoff time when they are only playing 5A schools they are very tested and physical. By far they play the hardest regular season schedule of all teams listed.
  9. I agree...more the point though is it doesn't matter how good that HC is; he can be really good and many asst. coaches want to work for him. But, no good, experienced asst. coaches are going to take a pay cut to come work for him. Experienced asst. coaches usually espire to be coordinators or head coaches themselves so they want to be around head coaches that can give them good, winning name. But, in the end, teachers don't make a lot of money. $3,000.00 is a lot of money to lose by going there. If the money was right Jeff. Co. would have no issues with coaches. I'm sure there are many wanting to come there for many reasons but got to have the money in the end.
  10. Hammontree would probably be a good choice. I would just caution everyone to not put all your hopes into someone because of past success. Although that is good, your administration may find someone who has had moderate success at a school with less potential than Jeff Co. I know this is a tough comparison but, Gene Chizik came to Auburn with some scrutiny. He was able to get good people around him at Auburn and now... The real question is will Jeff Co. provide the resources to put good people around whoever they hire as HC. The HC is obviously very important and needs to be good community man, PR guy, good football guy but he can't do it alone. Typically the HC is good X and O's coach but only has time to run one side of football. Hammontree nor even Quarles can do it alone. They have to find a way to help with asst. coaches pay. Not a huge amount but just to help HC recruit them. Maryville would not be who they are without paying for good coaches. Jeff Co. isn't a wealthy system but somehow, someway they have to become of age.
  11. Wow, this forum is obviously for peoples opinions. Don't think many would agree with you though. Some really obvious things...I know your bias w/ your Green Devils but you don't really think you would beat maryville next year do you? They return virtually every player. Their Soph. class is probably their best. They are loaded going into next yr. Next...Knox West returns a lot of players too. They beat South, they beat TN High like 31-7 and return more players than either one of those teams. Mo. West should be better this yr. and I know they got desimated by injury this past season but...Anderson County beat them then 2 weeks later Knox West beat Anderson County 55-12 with running clock the entire second half (49-12 at half). Upper ET will be down again next yr. except for your Devils. You guys should be pretty good again no doubt but it's a different animal once you come down I81 around Knoxville, Blount County. Having said that don't make any mistake about it...Greeneville was real deal in '10 and best in Upper ET going into next yr. but not once you get onto I40 past Sevier/Jeff. County exits. If so we could bring in other teams like Webb.
  12. Seems to me Jefferson County needs to do the exact opposite and bring someone in who has no or very few ties with the school. Someone who can be unbias but someone who has goals. The right person is out there who would love coaching at a place like Jefferson County, who could rally people, but without having to be a 'Jefferson County' guy. Yes, they will need to be paid but I think the bigger issue is assistant coaches. The Head Coach can't do it without quality guys around him and that is the bigger problem. How can you get quality, loyal, hard working assistance with experience when they have to take a pay cut from where they are?
  13. Although I am not directly involved with the Jeff County community I do agree with the last 2 posts. From an outsiders perspective it seems that talent is no where near what it was in the day. People there are crazy if the think it is even close. But...it does seem like a coach should still win a lot of games every year. The league is as weak as any across the state. Going 6-1 in region play is good but am I wrong in saying JC will struggle for a while to get to the 3rd round? If a staff doesn't finish 6-1 or 5-2 worst case then it has to be considered a bad year. Didn't William Blount beat Jeff this past year? Where did William Blount finish in their region? I think they finished like 7th or so. Is there still talk of a 2nd school? Is the money there to bring in good assistant coaches? It's been a while but when I was last there the weightroom was no bigger than my living room. Good fieldhouse if it was just lockerroom, coaches offices and film room. But with weightroom also there it is tiny. Some of the worst programs traditionally have much bigger facilities than 2,500 student Jefferson County. It Does matter. The talent level isn't high enough to overcome these things. Pride has to be taken in all areas and a 'system' implemented on offense/defense that has to be ran at the middle schools. Then they MAY compete outside the region. In numbers alone they should be a little better though shouldn't they? Beating Sevier County was big but look at how bad Farragut beat Sevier County in first round of playoffs. IF the community would rally together and not rely on the school system they could build a weightroom and get some things going for the future. Sorry so long..got on a roll. Hope I didn't affend anyone along the way.
  14. Thing about it is...its not just a 5-5 record its a 5-5 record with a schedule thats pretty bad. Overall Jefferson County should have pretty easy time going 7-3. 2400 students playing in a weak region should have better results. This isn't to say Coach Anderson doesn't work hard. I know he does but is the overall talent that bad? Half the schools on the schedule get beat by AAA/AAAA schools well alone 6A schools.
  15. I'm not aware of any for sure hires yet but I know DLine, OLB and another position I can't remember are the spots those coaches were in.
