  1. Ripley Tigers visit Dyersburg this Friday. Throw out the records as this is a rivalry. Ripley is better than their record shows. They are a team with several young players and some say Ripley is a rising contender. Would not be surprised to see a close game as Ripley will not be intimidated by rankings or records. They had Westview on the ropes the first half and had Covington sweating. They will line up and play smash mouth. Dyersburg again, for the third time this season, has been off two weeks which can have a negative impact on team performance. Could be a “trap” game! https://www.facebook.com/PastorSteveGaines/videos/234256422040534
  2. You mean the “official” got it right? Well, who would have believed it with so many “eye witnesses” who said they saw him touch it. This is why we don’t burn “witches” anymore.
  3. I would not take that bet, to many variables……plus as you say, “odds of one of these winning twice will be tough”. Spot on!
  4. I know that “some” of the Charger fans feel that the officials impacted the outcome of the game. You may feel that is the case, but the proof in the pudding tells a different story. 1. No team has scored 29 or more points this season against Covington. 2. No team has limited Covington to 22 points this season. Dyersburg did! Dyersburg left 17 points on the field. One was a caught pass in the flat inside the Covington red zone. Dyersburg had driven the length of the field, when after the caught pass the receiver fumbled. Another was a 4th and 1 deep inside red zone, where Covington “d” held. Then the missed field field goal Dyersburg “d” had throttled Covington, held them to 6 points in the first half. Who else has done that this year? In the 3rd, Dyersburg led 21 to 6. Your Coach knew that the game was about to get out of hand and he made a excellent decision by moving “Fain” to QB and running a scheme Dyersburg was not prepared for. That got Covington back in the game. In overall games, and region play thus far, Dyersburg leds the region in points scored and points allowed. Covington is a great team and will be playing Dyersburg again. But please give credit where credit is due. Dyersburg won this game and it was not because of the refs.
  5. I am sure that the Dyersburg “d” is glad they got to see that offense change up, as they will need to work a lot on that before they meet again. Dyersburg “d” is to be commended as they have improved over last year. Covington is well coached and had a lot of weapons. I know that Dyersburg schedule does not win any strength of schedule awards, but tonight, Dyersburg proved they are a good team.
  6. I thought Covington coaching staff made a good decision to change up the offense the second half, as Dyersburg “d” was throttling Covington. Two very good teams. Congrats to Dyersburg, good win.

  8. If they want to play, then a drive would not be a problem.
  9. Glad to know that. Definitely do not want to risk his health.
  10. Well, that explains why he posted what he did reference to slobber knocker. His response was a freudulian slip……lol Big Rick deleting that post is another!
  11. Man I hate to be in that mind of yours, if that was your first thought! But hey, It is 2021 after all! lol
  12. I think this will be a close game. Haywood is good, no doubt. But Milan’s losses have come against some very good teams. I say Milan takes this one in a slobber knocker….
  13. I don’t think you are looking for a argument, and I do believe that you are just stating your opinion based on your perspective. I do respect that. I, on the other hand, have all the time in the world for a good debate, until my wife takes the IPAD away.
  14. I never said anything about wide eyed kids and facilities, so please be accurate at least. Go back and reread my post. That was another poster.
  15. I think it is all about your perspective and the actual timeline. And no, I was not downplaying any money spent on that stadium…..at Both Dyersburg City and County Schools, academics is the priority. That is evident not only by their commitment to student facilities, but academic achievement as well. My response was to your statement about Dyersburg spending millions on the football stadium and not investing in “academics”, which I assume you mean “whiteboards”. The truth is that in 2013, Dyersburg City Schools expedited a plan to improve all campuses, labs, classrooms, library, and building updates. The purpose had nothing to do with football stadium update. Prior to 2013, In 2008, Coach James Counce and Team Dyersburg, who wanted to bring the NAIA National Championship to Dyersburg, lobbied for stadium updates. There is a news article for that. That is where the effort to update the stadium begun. Keep in mind that the stadium and campus were approaching 40 years of age in 2008. Here is a link to the news article for school renovations and with no mention of the stadium updates. https://www.stategazette.com/story/1953956.html Here is the news article for the turf. https://www.stategazette.com/story/1937794.html New stadium renovation discussions begin in 2012 with discussion of replacing the grass field with turf to save time and water, due to a company who came in and got sponsors to pay for that turf. After the turf was installed, they decided to add in the home side bleacher renovation to the already developed master plan for facility updates. The Jumbotron was added because it was being paid for through sponsorships. If I recall correctly, the stadium renovation was less than 10% of the system wide renovations. It was justified as the stadium was to be used as a outdoor community venue, evident by the most recent event One Community Worship Service for Dyersburg and Dyer County students. So, kudos to the Superintendent and Board, as they saved the District about 40 millions dollars in bringing all facilities up to date and getting another 20 years. Apparently, the lack of whiteboards did not affect Dyersburgs ability to provide a quality education.
  16. What makes for a good education is not smart boards; they are not staples of a good education, just like Jumbotron do not make for a good football team. It starts with great teachers, good principles and a strong and supported school board. Everything else is just “amenities”, like that turf, Jumbotron, etc. All students in both systems have laptop computers, they take home with them. Not sure why Dyersburg is now just getting caught with the rest of the world with smart boards. FYI on the turf and Jumbotron, that was paid for by sponsors. The stadium was part of a entire campus make over, where the bulk of the money was spent on new labs and other educational assests.
  17. That year UC beat Dyersburg, UC had one of the best all time TEAMS I have seen. They could have beaten most 6A teams.
  18. Munford kept 8 in the box all night long, daring Dyersburg to throw and we didn’t. Defense was non existent in the first half. Dyersburg simply tried to play power run football against 8 in the box with just the tailbacks. But give Munford credit, they were a good team. They had an impressive power rating score in Cal Preps and Sonny Moore, so no shame there. The second half was a different story. Dyersburg ran Darius Harris, the full back, and the 8 in the box could not slow him down. Why Harris did not play in the first half is not known….. In the sports article this morning, Coach said they learned a lot……I wonder if that was when you play the power run game, against 8 in the box, you need run your tank some in the first half to soften up those 8 in the box? Darius Harris is a beast…..
  19. Now, for Dyersburg… Just how good is Dyersburg? I don’t think that answer will come until Covington. What I do know is that Darius Harris is the strongest and fastest full back I have seen in West Tennessee. He is a much faster, stronger back than Beau Meter (spelling) who played at Hardin County. I have never seen a HS fullback do what he did to 8 players in the box, during the second half at Munford……. Dyersburg defense still has a lot of question marks. They do have some very good defensive players, but the package itself, still has a lot of ??? The defensive line has looked good in their games. Offense….they have so much speed in the skill positions and a large stable of running backs. Offensive line, although not huge, is quick and very good at their blocking, much improved over last year. Peabody game cancellation was a big disappointment, because it would have told the fans if Dyersburg is a pretender, or for real, it would have been a bench mark. That question will not be answered now until Covington.
  20. No harm, no foul….you are just a passionate fan who loves his teams. I, on the other hand, like to push buttons…lol
  21. Thank you. “Recruiting” has and will always be a problem. I do ask that people realize for some, it was about opportunity, exposure, or better education. Others, it is about greed, and sadly to say, even money or winning at any cost. Coach Rick Ensell for years was accused of “recruiting” in basketball; and he was, but he was doing it within the TSSAA rules. He recruited by building powerhouses, that great players in the surrounding communities wanted to play for……and that was accomplished through AAU. And yes, if the kids parents did not have good jobs, they suddenly were offered good jobs, by program fans. So it was a win for the student and families, but a loss for the smaller rural schools. I don’t know if the TSSAA could even address that, or even if they should.
  22. No, I will not say the persons name…that would be trashy to name someone to only be disparaged simply because they elected to play at another school.
  23. I hope that you do realize that when I said Lake County was bad, that is was to get a response from YOU about your true feelings about Dyersburg? Lake County has great football tradition and has a good team year after year. Dyersburg and Dyer County, sports is not the main focus, it is and will be education. Some of those kids you speak of come because of just that, wanting a top notch education because they know that it is job #1.
