  1. Does anybody know when our boys scrimmage? I'm fired up with our new coaching staff and I'm ready for the season to begin. I have been hearing good things from this summer.
  2. We had a tremendous run last year. I can't wait to see my Patriots repeat last years performance. Does anybody know when and where they scrimmage this year. I hope our offense can rebound with the loss of our QB. Go Pats!!!!
  3. Two things. We have the twins at our school. I'm happy for us. Second, there will be a total split in three years. It doesn't matter. Which is something your pro-private, pity us people should learn. It doesn't matter. I have yet to blame all of the public school's problems on private schools. However, you guys want to take it like that. I dig the condescending tone though from both buc4life and baldy. Please, speak like adults and let's take a socratic approach to this topic.
  4. Have you ever been to Whitwell? It is not thirty minutes from the school. I am from that area. Easy chief, before you question my knowledge of geography. So your facts are wrong.
  5. Don't jump on me because names are wrong. If that is what you're coming back with, then you're argument is pretty weak. I never said that private schools are trying to cheat. I never once said that. I have never said that the main objective of a private/ public school is to recruit kids for sports. However, a coach has a job to do and that job is to win. So if he can bring in one kid here, one kid there, then that is still recruiting. I know who the kids dad is btw, just don't care. It was only a detail. I was responding to the Smith County post. Can any of you deny that Clarksville Academy had a billboard up in the middle of Clarksville? No, you guys don't live here. I tell you what I see, but you don't want to hear it. Private schools are not out to be the bad guy, but you all take offense when we point out advantages. Can any public school legally have kids from 51 or whatever zip codes?
  6. I agree with you that a split seems the only way to please everyone. I have a problem with a few public schools you mentioned as well. I feel Riverdale brings players in just as much as private schools (i.e. the Locke kid they brought in as a senior transfer this year). My solution is to not regulate recruiting. That way no one can complain of recruiting period. But, a split is definitely where the TSSAA is headed. Also, I agree that the multiplier is a bit harsh to most private schools. I think it is unfair to put Boyd in 2-A, especially with the road to the state the way it is. But, it is also unfair to the majority of private schools. However, I do not speak of recruiting in a sense of going to a kid's home and making him offer to attend a certain school. There are other ways in which private schools can afford to get their name out, when public schools are not allowed to advertise certain aspects of their institution. Therefore, two options would alleviate the problem: total split or no regulations on recruiting.
  7. We have two students (twins) who moved to the school in which I coach. They came from inner-city Nashville. Both students were outstanding middle school players for their team. One lead the city in rushing his eighth grade year. He told me that Goodpasture had contacted him about attending their school. This kid is very intelligent so he could pass at Goodpasture. I look forward to seeing how this kid fills out over the next three years and feel lucky that both of them moved here. They are incredible kids and very athletic. I played against Boyd throughout high school. One of the best lineman John David Smith lived in Whitwell, TN. About 45 minutes to an hour away from Boyd. How did he just decide to go there? He did not attend Boyd in elementary school. Those are just two examples. I'm sure that they are not the only two examples that I could give you. Here's one more, today, I was Christmas shopping. I saw an advertisement for Clarksville Academy. It was a billboard and on it were three pictures: Two pictures of students in the classroom, the other a big picture of a Basketball player shooting the ball. The B-ball picture was massive in comparison to the students in the classroom. How is that not recruiting? Can public schools get away with that?
  8. That's what the Grace guy said. I get the feeling you are still in high school. Stay in school because you're not very intelligent.
  9. You know so much now. Is this Coach Lewis? How's it going Coach Lewis?
  10. I need stats VG. I need stats. I can say that most people chew their food three times before they swallow, but I can't back that up. Bottomline, my point was unless you make recruiting legal for every school then that is why there are two divisions. It is not fair for public schools to have to compete with schools that can recruit. They have divisions in the NCAA based on this differences among teams. Hence, there are two collegiate divisions for scholarship and non-scholarship schools. That is why we have two high school divisions. I don't even know what your question is by now. Frankly, I don't care. Just accept what I have written. You went off on the advertising theme for so long that I could careless what you have to say at this point. You never once legitimately took anything I said seriously, but yet you would come back with ridiculous information like what is posted above. Lastly, if private schools were not becoming so dominant, then what was happening in 1-A the past five years. Public schools were unable to compete with them. There had to be a change to allow fairness. I'm not saying that the way the TSSAA handled it was the best, I'm just saying a change needed to be made.
  11. You stated that you had not seen the ad. So now, you're flip flopping. Gotch, I'm sure you have it saved. And yes, please get more detailed because I want.
  12. Good comment by the way. Dumdb? I am confused, for a boy who thinks he is smart why can he not spell those big tough words like dumb? By the way, most teams can not compete with private schools. I know except for this recent championship game, the three previously played 1-A finals were dominated by private schools. Mmmm, you're right. Extremely competitive. You guys can't get past Brighton. JMC is very competitive. You're from podunk West TN. Besides, Memphis, Huntingdon, Milan, Portland are there any other teams in West TN. I'm not sure, maybe you can help me or am I too dumdb?
  13. Did you not read the submission? The difference between public and private is motivation. You are not very intelligent are you. Can you read? I was writing about the differences between most private school children and most public school kids. I did not write that for you, but it was intended for someone else. Allow me to explain. There was a post that said there are no differences between public and private. I begged to differ. Motivation being my first point. Second point I made was you have public schools out there who can only have two paid coaches on staff. Name me a private school with only two coaches. Now remember, Tyner does not have that many people who can volunteer their time due to the socioeconomic culture of that region. Most parents are working. Please read before you insert foot.
  14. Come on here. You are acting as if that is the only way they are able to get top talent in guys. I never said that is the only way they are able to lure kids into their program. Stop acting childish and taking things out of context. I said one way they have an advantage is advertising their product. You guys are funny . See I can do to that too. So, you are telling me that part of what I said is not true. No one seems to think that being able to afford newspaper/ tv adds even plays a small part. The question that was posed to me was, would TN football be better off having only one division and five classifications based on population? I said yes, if they allowed everyone to recruit. I just gave one unfair advantage is financially, private schools are way ahead of the majority of public schools. Everyone seemed to think that I was blaming the media and I manufactured this dream world. I did not. Simply stating what I have seen. So, The University of Vanderbilt will not benefit from being on tv more this year? The answer is yes they will. Therefore, pub is pub. If you can show your product, then more will become interested. You can recruit btw, eighth graders. This allows you to bring the kids in and teach them your system a year before high school. All a coach has to do is go watch local Jr. high games to see the talent floating around. Guys not that difficult. I'm not creating a conspiracy theory here, it's not a stretch. But believe what you want. Go ahead and come up with your one liners. Bottomline, I answered the question and everyone wants to focus on nonessential details. I mean, the Times-Freepress wrote an article over exactly what I have mentioned. Can't be that far of a stretch.
  15. Perhaps good sir you should read and pay more attention. It might be hard to see the commercial now the season is over. However, if I see it I will surely let you know. Like I said, it was shown during a SEC football game. Doubt I see it again. Therefore, since you don't know if public schools can afford it let me tell you. Coach Grider of South Pittsburg was interviewed by the Chattanooga Times-FreePress. He mentioned the same thing I originally mentioned about public schools affording advertisement. He gave the answer that you are looking for, no. Public schools cannot afford advertisement to compete with private schools. I believe you are taking this a bit personally. I have spoken nothing but good things about MBA the entire time I have mentioned them. So, back off there a bit. Did not mean to strike a nerve with your alma mater.
  16. Sir, you are not talking to a person who graduated from Just Anywhere College? I attended the University of the South. So please, do not let on as if I am making this up. You said that you had not seen the commercial. Have you seen the ESPN commercial that just came on television. What? No. You mean you did not just see the commercial that just came on television right now? Then, according to you it did not happen. I guess O.J. Simpson did not commit murder either because you did not see it.
  17. You venture. You venture. Well, I am not a venturing type person. I am a see it to believe type person. I saw it. I'm sorry though, you must be right because you went to MBA. Did you not read the submission above that. I stated that MBA did hold true to their academics, unlike other private schools. However, there is some pressure on the schools in Nashville to compete with one another for players. I think you will see that over the next few years, private schools in Nashville will see a decline in athletic talent. There are just so many and so few truly talented players out there. But, yes there was a commercial. You still did not answer my question. Can public schools afford adds in papers and commercials?
  18. One issue in the Chattanooga and Nashville area is recruiting. I agree with you that most private school parents and coaches would say that they are not recruiting. Let me give you an example that represents the type of recruiting that is going on among the private schools. McCallie placed an add in the paper for incoming students and prospective students. The add was in the sports section. It was a complete page and it had a picture of one of their football players. Now, this is not your typical, college style recruiting where you go in the child's home and make him an offer. But, it is obvious the type of students they were looking for. I'll give you another example. During the CSS SEC game of the day, MBA had a commercial run several times throughout the telecast. The commercial was asking kids to apply to MBA. Roughly 80% of the commercial showed clips of their football team. Can public schools afford commercials and full-page adds? No. That is one of the arguments for there being separate divisions. If every school was in the same classifications, then public schools would ultimately lose their athletes. I realize that one or two athletes will not make a difference, unless your losing your one or two great athletes.
  19. Sorry about all the submissions. Computer froze on me during that time. I agree, some private schools have admission test as well as certain academic standards. However, MBA is one of the few schools that hold true to their academic standards. BA has an admission test as well. But, they do not have such a strict score that one must make to be allowed to enroll in their school. My point is if you combine all schools, then why not make recruiting legal for everyone? That way at least you have eliminated the recruiting side of it. Look, I went to a coaching clinic in which a certain Nashville based private school was in attendance. The speaker was talking before his presentation to a coach of the previously mentioned private school. The topic was about how the speaker's QB had graduated and now he had to try to find a replacement. The speaker said, "I'm not like you church schools, I can't go out and just get one." The private school coach said, "Yeah, we got an eighth grader to come to our school who is a player. It will work out perfect because our QB is a sophomore and by the time he graduates we can just replace him with this kid." Now, tell me can most schools say this? Not unless you are a private or big time public school. Therefore, why regulate recruiting? Allow everyone to do it, if you are going to combine all the schools. However, the argument is that most public schools can not compete with the facilities of a private school. Well, that is something you can not regulate. There is no solution to that.
  20. Hey chief, I won a state. So back off. Yes, I do. You still have the problem of recruiting. Simply, why don't we make recruiting legal? But, yes you are naive and it is extremely private school biased. Not every school can compete like you said you did. The biggest reason is public schools have to rebuild while BA just reloads. Why should public schools not get a chance to reload? Except for Riverdale and few other public schools (which I mentioned they did recruit), then it is difficult for everyone to have a chance ever now. Also, the sports culture has changed over the past few years. A bigger emphasis has been placed on sports. Therefore, more private schools who used to focus solely on academics are taking a lot of the athletes away from smaller schools. Do you honestly feel that a boxer can win with no hands and antiquated equipment? The answer then is no. So please shake your head no and catch up to reality.
  21. Then, we need to eliminate a no recruiting clause for every team in the state. If one team can, then they all should be able to recruit. Look, there were still two private schools who made it to the state championship. So, it is not like private schools were severely punished. I mean the trade off for having the opportunity to go after top players from out of their area should be something. However, now they have ability to say that they can dominate two larger classes. Albeit, 3-A is weaker than 1-A (TC beat LA). Goodpasture realized they need to go out and find them some speed. David Lipscomb realized that their offense is too predictable and ineffective when you play a team that can match their size. However, both teams will probably be back in the championship next year. They just need to adjust their recruiting focus to speed and even bigger players. I have one question. Will Ensworth eat up all the top talent in Nashville now and leave all the other private schools in search of second tier players? Anyways, back to the original topic, it is not fair to every team in the state if you allow some teams to go get their players and small towns have to hope and pray they have some on the way. That is a ridiculous claim to eliminate all divisions and put everyone into five classifications based on size. It would be like telling a boxer that he has to fight an opponent with both of his hands tied behind his back. I will say this. Coach Rankins every year somehow gets top players from other high schools. For example, the Locke kid who for some odd reason, transferred in for his Senior year. I think a lot of public schools get away with recruiting as well. I do feel there is a lot of hypocrisy in TN. But, your solution is naive and very private-school biased.
  22. I thoroughly know the history of Boyd football. As well, I know a lot of TN high school football. So, please do not patronize me and assume that you know more than I about football. You made the statement that DCA, CPA, and Boyd could win 1-A. That was a dumb comment. I can say it in a constructive manner if that would make you feel better. Here, let me try. You made a few good points, but that one could have been worded differently. Does that make it better? Bottomline, Trousdale Co. would have won against all three teams. Please, do not say that the better team lost. I am referring to your comments on the Tyner vs. Alcoa matchup. I know you may not have said it in those exact words, but you mentioned that Tyner should have won. Were you there? That's right you went off of a stat sheet. Let me tell you. Good teams do not fumble. The better team obviously won because they had more points in the end. I get frustrated when people claim the better team lost. How is that? Other than Missouri when Colorado was given five downs to end the game, no team/ person/ coach can make that claim. Good teams do not fumble. If Tyner was the better team, then they would have not given the ball up to Alcoa. Also, take a look at my name. Alcoa had too much talent for Tyner. Your lucky Boyd did not have to play. BTW, welcome to 2-A. If I were Akins, I would recruit some fast kids. He's living in East TN where speed dominates right now. Boyd looks too much like Goodpasture, slow. Also, ask Akins why you throw on 3rd goal when you have the #2 team in the state beat with 5 minutes remaining (referring to 1999).
