  1. Congratulations to Humboldt on the win. Wartburg came out strong in the first half but just couldn't get anything going in the second half. A great game played by both teams. Congratulations Bulldogs on a great season and for making it to the state for the first time in our school's history. Great dunk DJ!!! To all the seniors...thanks for taking us all on a great ride this season. Wish you the best in whatever the future holds for you! God Bless!
  2. I would bet that is not the case. I would think the reason they left today was to not change up the routine they have been in. Not once this year have they stayed the night in a hotel prior to a game. Why shake things up now. It worked great driving 2 1/2 hours to ETSU to beat University High. I would say the reasoning is to keep with the routine. Good luck to both teams...GO DOGS!
  3. Check out the thread titled "Humboldt vs. Wartburg" currently located on page 2. There is plenty of discussion there already.
  4. Wartburg is a team that likes to run-n-gun the entire game. They have great depth in the bench and like to see how deep you can go, wearing down the starters. They have shooters from beyond the arc and they have the BIG MEN (yes...that's plural) who stand 6'6" plus and who can play inside. What's Humboldt like?
  5. Ram Fan...you have shown class in supporting Grace and your continued support for my alma mater is much appreciated. And by the way, Phil 4:13..great verse! Good luck to Grace in the future!
  6. Who is Wartburg? Wartburg is a team that is excited to bring honor and pride in representing Wartburg, Morgan County, and East Tennessee in the state tournament. If I'm not mistaken, this is Wartburg's first trip ever to state. They have heart, play team ball, and are going to put up one heck of a fight come next Wednesday. That's who Wartburg is.
  7. Couldn't have said it any better BigDave!!!
  8. Don't believe there were any dunks at all....a lot of missed layups tho...
  9. BULLDOGS WIN SUBSTATE!!!! Wartburg 74 UH 65 Congratulations to the BULLDOGS on a great win tonight! Amazing team basketball will take you far in this league. Not to mention well over 40 rebounds!!!! Good luck in the boro! GO BULLDOGS!!
  10. listen live at www.wecoradio.com click on the fm dial. Padget just fouled out. 0:48 to go... 69-62 Dogs
  11. I totally disagree. Nelson, Rogers, and Bunch can all hit their fair share of shots from behind the arc as well as jumpers. Thankfully, I can say that the Wartburg Bulldogs, and DJ Shannon, will both agree with me that there is no "I" in this team. It will take a major TEAM effort to win this ballgame and they're gonna be bringin it. Go BULLDOGS!!!
  12. Wartburg will travel Monday night to University High near Johnson City, TN. Harriman will host Cloudland. Winners only will advance to the next level! Good luck!
  13. Congratulations to Harriman. Both teams played a very physical and hard faught game. Blood, sweat, tears...it's all left on the floor tonight. Both teams live to play another day. Wartburg will travel and Harriman will play at home. Great game by both teams! A double overtime regional championship!!! Who could ask for anything more out of high school basketball!
  14. We're in Overtime...listen live at www.wecoradio.com. Click on the FM dial 69-67 Wartburg leading with 0:36 left. Tied at 69 with 0:14 seconds left. Harriman's ball. Timeout Harriman. At the end of the first OT, 69-69. We're going to double OT.
  15. Ram Fan, Thank you for your support. I would love to see a rematch next year as well but don't count Wartburg out just because they are losing a handful of excellent seniors. Wartburg has talent that will definately be stepping up their game in the absense of this years seniors. Bunch is a talented point guard as well as Josh Kidd. They both are proficient shooters from beyond the arc. Don't forget Langley who was out this year due to injury. Griffith has been watching Winstead and learning well stepping up his game even in the postseason this year. You never know...it might be a growing year next year...but don't count Wartburg out for 2008!
  16. They split regular season, both winning away games. Harriman definately has the advantage playing at home. Wartburg is going to have to stay out of foul trouble. It nearly cost them the game against Grace. They have constantly put the other team in bonus after only 8 minutes of play. You can't give a team free throws and expext to win. Coach Layne has done an amazing job with the men's basketball program. The seniors are going to have to continue to step up as they have in games past and show that they truly want this regional championship. It's going to be an intense, fast-paced game....can't wait! Wartburg wins by 2
  17. Ramtough... Let's give credit where credit is due and not try to place blame on the officials. The foul count was lopsided in Grace's favor the entire night with Grace being in bonus by the end of the first and third quarters. In fact, in the second half, Grace had only two team fouls compared to Wartburg's 7 or 8. I just can't agree that the "zebras" cost you the game. It was hard faught and again I congratulate Grace for a great season. We'll be looking forward to seeing you again next year!
  18. Congratulations to the Bulldogs on an great win tonight!! The dogs got into foul trouble early in the third quarter but that didn't stop them. Grace played a hard faught game and has had a great season. To Grace - Congratulations on a great season. Wartburg Bulldogs 86 Grace Christian 73 Don't let the score mislead you. This game was close all night long. Wartburg finally pulled away within the last two minutes. Your ALL-STAR for the night is none other than DJ Shannon. Shannon had a great game and scored 46 points (which I believe ties his season/career high) to allow the Bulldogs to advance to play Harriman on Thursday night for the regional championship. Great game by all the Bulldogs!!! Good luck Thursday!!
  19. At the end of one...Wartburg 18, Grace 15 At halftime....Wartburg 39, Grace 32....GO BULLDOGS!!

  21. My thoughts...If Wartburg plays the team ball that they played tonight against Rockwood then they will go far. They looked good on defense but they have to control the foul count. I think Rockwood was in bonus before the end of the third quarter and that's giving free points which definately can't happen against Grace. Wartburg likes to control the pace on offense and a fast one at that. I haven't seen Grace play. What is their "nitch". Are they a fast paced team or do they prefer a controlled, set offense? Any insight?
  22. Possibly the two best teams in the region go head to head Tuesday night. Your thoughts??
  23. Congratulations to Oliver Springs on winning the district title. It was a great game played by both teams and it was anybody's to lose. Unfortunately, it came down to four back-to-back turnovers within the last three minutes, with OS scoring on each one. Turnovers can definately lose a game for you and this is proof positive. Great effort by both teams and I look forward to the regional tournament. Wartburg...keep your chin up! It's better to have lost tonight than to lose Saturday in the regionals. Play hard and good luck!
