  1. Expo. Expo. Do I sense a bit of sarcasm? It looks like everything on this thread was positive about Coach Eldridge at Maryville and then you have to come on and put someone down. VERY classy post.
  2. I'm right there with ya 2late. People who are good at something are always going to have people who don't like them and we all know why. It's the green color. What is respectable is that those who are continually ridiculed just continue to work toward their goals of being successful without being concerned about what others think.
  3. What if a high school player is young enough to still be in 8th grade according to the appropriate guidelines? I know that one freshman standout on LA's team last year was young enough to be what some consider a "holdback". Should it be said that he was the Upper Cumberland Freshman of the Year because he was 'just an 8th grader'? Wow. The high school JV/Freshman team is winning because they have 8th graders! Makes about as much sense. And if it's true that people yelled that the first place team won because they were freshmen, I can't believe adults would get so carried away that they'd say such a thing, why yell it at that point. A truly concerned person should discuss it with the "freshman's" parents. See what they have to say about these concerns. I wonder why when all these kids get to high school together, most of this bickering over ages dies down. I don't remember hearing a lot of bickering at any point about students repeating as LA won any of the state championships they've won. Don't know if any of those participants repeated anywhere, but isn't it possible. What if a superstar football player had been a little older but still within guidelines when LA won the state in football? Is anyone going to blame that scholarship on being a "holdback"? Really. Let's be more mature and let parents make decisions based on what they want to base it on. If parents want their child to repeat at any level, lets stay out of their business. If parents do not want their kids to repeat for whatever reasons, then lets stay out of their business as well. It's a competitive world. Compete.
  4. come one now wildcat6. You wrote on another thread bad things about LA and their coach. Had you won LA might have been classier, right? Maybe the reason it was so quiet is that it wasn't close.
  5. Dunn played quite a bit. LA won 52-39. Dekalb scored at the final horn for the final score. LA led by 20 or more late in the game. Good job LA on a tough win on the road in a very competitive district.
  6. I haven't read all the posts in this thread, but after reading the last page my comment is this. How many people in the stands notice when coaches actually congratulate or tell a player "good job". Or maybe just pat the player on the back or give the five or knuckles. I think SO many people are looking for something to complain about with coaches that they choose to overlook the positive and attend games for nothing more sometimes than just to find a mistake with the coaching staff. What a pathetic existance for those so called fans that they have nothing better to do than to spend money a couple of nights every week just to be a pessimist and try to cause trouble. Answer these questions before you complain or try to make a coach's life miserable because of your own incompetency, jealousy, or paranoia. 1. How many days have you spent in practice with the coach and players in question? 2. How many times have you been in the dressing room at halftime, pregame, or postgame? 3. How many times have you been on the bus with them? 4. How many times have you been in the school hallways, classrooms, or lunchrooms with them? 5. How many times have you been in the weight room with them, been in preseason conditioning with them, or cried with them in the dressing room after the season ending loss? Unless you can answer "all the time" to all of these questions, don't pretend to know what coaches go through for all of our kids. Even if there is a bad apple, deal with that one and don't lump all coaches into that category. STOP pretending to know how to do a coach's job, and even if you do know how, how rare would it be that anyone who's bashing, complaing, or whining ever really knows the whole story or situation?
  7. JC 58, PC 54. Congrats JC. Both are very good teams. Gonna be fun in post season.
  8. good point Rup. but let's look at what you're saying a little closer. Everyone knows that Melton is NOT a competitor as his teams usually show. with the depth that LA has, you think he's gonna put off the game because of one player? He seems more confident in his other players than that. Another post has LA with the 4th ranked schedule in AA. Doesn't sound like someone backing away from a challenge. Sounds to me like you just want to start something. I do know that Overton County schools were closed on Thursday and Friday due to illness in the schools. Imagine a coach trying to do what's right for his players. Don't know juicy details, but it could be in Dekalb's best interest if LA has sick players, but I'm just speaking in terms of unimportant things like the health of your players.
  9. I don't really think that the MVP for the season should have to come from the team with the best record, either. But how about the number one team. How many times have you seen the MVP of the state tournament come from the runner up team, or final four participant. Lots of times we've seen a Mr. or Miss Basketball lose in the state tournament and not get MVP because their team didn't win it all. I think that unless there is someone obviously and unquestionably better than EVERYONE in the district, it's hard to justify the MVP coming from any team but the number one or maybe number two team. Maybe the question should be... is the MVP the player who is most valuable to the team or the most valuable in the league? Would it really be possible to decide which player is THE most valuable to his/her team? That could be someone who just does all the dirty work and never leads in a statistical column. Lots of coaches have those players who never get recognized but the coach knows it would be so hard to win without that player.
  10. Dunn sprained his ankle with 6 minutes left against York and didn't return. How will he be friday? Will he be playing?
  11. I think that Dekalb, Macon County, and York are better than you are giving them credit. Didn't Macon have a chance to take Station Camp to overtime but missed the 3 pointer? You've got Station Camp at 2 and Macon at 11. These teams would be very hard to rank from top to bottom.
  12. Looks like someone from Smith County is for Upperman.
  13. Hey Ben I don't think anyone has talked or bragged as much as you on here this season. We're all wondering why your not bragging on last nights win. What was it by 2 in OT? Let's hear where it was and what happened to the states "best starting five".
  14. not sure if he had the chance or if King and Devil were both wrong about LA runnin up the score. Maybe having to play Cleveland tonight had something to do with it, but LA played a lot of players last night in both halves. the first half was pretty close. LA led by 9 at the half and that's as close as SC got in the second half. The lead was more than 20 a couple of times. LA holding the ball for most of the last four minutes of the game didn't look like they were running up the score. However, I have seen them blow teams out myself. Way to get back on the winning track LA. Do it again tonight.
