  1. Willie is a great kid. I really hope he turns the corner this year at Memphis.
  2. Bolivar 2004, Hamilton 2006, and Liberty 2007 are 3 of the best teams in the state in recent memory. I saw Manassas last year and they were very good. However, I think Manassas was a notch below the three aforementioned teams. Right now, I put Manassass team with Mitchell 2006 and Booker T. Washington 2007. Just an opinion. Btw, I think this is an interesting topic to discuss.
  3. What the heck is going on in Brownsville? 88-47? WOW!
  4. Bolivar ran it last year and at times the best player (Rhodes) looked lost. This year, I think Bolivar will look a lot better with it because they have so many good guards and wings. JMHO
  5. Prather is a stud. Fun player to watch. Northside played very well. Bolivar has some serious chemistry issues right now. They looked "nervous" and "skittish" from the opening tip. Turnovers. Missed free throws. Blown lay-ups. Silly fouls. Just a real "unrudesill-like" performance. IMHO, Bolivar looked more like Fayette-Ware than Bolivar.
  6. O. Kemp and Jeremy Rhodes are two of the biggest enigmas I have ever known. Ask ten people and you'll get ten different answers as to what their potential is/was. Warmachine, DC did have some great teams in the early 2000's. West TN has some very good basketball players, coaches, and programs. Colleges are really starting to take notice.
  7. I think he means "rural" to be any West TN town outside of Jackson and Memphis. Being from Bolivar, I have watched Coach Rick build this program. He is a great coach and person. However, I do think there are several great coaches in West TN that simply don't have the talent to work with. A coach that I have always watched and admired is Jerod Shelton at Crocket County. He always gave Bolivar and Southside fits when he coached in D12-AA. Sisco, Williams, and Smalley are all proven guys who know how to get it done.
  8. You're right, Chris is a good kid and I think a sense of reality is finally setting in. Time will tell. Along with Jay Murphy, I interested in seeing Dez Crisp is his senior year. Heard some good things about him this summer. Another name to remember, Derrick Hudson at Middleton.
  9. Bolivar is really banged up right now and thin on both lines. I don't know if we compete with D'burg right now. Team has just had a bit of tough luck this year. D'burg by 2 tds.
  10. It really is staggering the amount of basketball talent that comes out of Memphis. High school basketball is really special in that city. Here's to a great season.
  11. Final Score: Lexington 34 Bolivar 28 Great game and full of big plays. Congrats to Lexington. As far as that last drive, Good NO-Call. The qb just didn't throw the ball far enough. Mitch had to slow down and come back for the ball and the defender was in good position for the underthrown pass. This was a fun game to watch and I think both teams are very good.
  12. Pirtle has been a little "nicked up". Don't know his status right now. He may be fine by Friday night.
  13. Should be a good one. It's Bolivar's homecoming. A win would be huge for either team. Lexington is trying to rebound from last year and Bolivar is trying to go 4-0 for the first time in ............probably ever. Should be a lot of fun.
  14. F-W game was cancelled last week. Bolivar looked okay against Carver. I think these teams are very similar. Both have perimeter athletes and both are rebuilding the OL/DL. A side note: Over the past 2 years, FW has sent a player to Miss St and U of Memphis. That's pretty good for a program that was DEAD 3 years ago.
  15. The linebacker for Melrose (#9) was a beast. He was the best player I saw Saturday. Dude can lay the wood!
  16. Bill Haney is what High School sports are all about. My prayers go out to his family and the family of the young football player. (Sad news)
  17. Just a prediction: Top 3 in the region. Should make playoffs. May win a playoff game. 6-3 would be a good record. Dyersburg on the road will be a good barometer. Good skill players and rebuilt OL and DL.
  18. Tragic and sad. Prayers from Bolivar.
  19. These two teams have turned out some major talent over the last 15-20 years. This is usually a great game but JCM might need a year a two to be competitive with Haywood. Haywood 34 JCM 12
  20. Bolivar has a scrimmage against Haywood on Friday. I'll know more about them after that. At this point, I think Region 6 3A is wide open. BTW, I've been fired before, and given a crappy reason. It turned out to a be a blessing in disguise. I love my current position. More money and less stress. Sometimes your percieved setbacks become your breakthroughs. Just and FYI...... Lastly, (and I promise this is my last post to this thread) NONE OF US really knows what is going on with Memphis City Schools or the Memphis political scene. All of the stuff on this thread is second-hand info and media-driven, personal opinions. There is nothing wrong with the discussion, but why on a high school football message board? There are plenty of other forums to discuss these topics with knowlegdeable people, of which I am not one.
  21. Yeah, hard to fail with Borner, Boykin, Hogsett, and company. JCM will not be down long. Bolivar went from winless in 2005 to 9 wins last year. There will be talent at JCM. A decent coach can strike gold there.
