  1. Star Raider's son played an important role in his high school having its highest fininsh in the individual tournament this weekend. There is no doubt that some of the love for the sport the family shares probably has something to do with Dave's coach. Its cool to watch the effect that coaches can have on kids they may never meet.
  2. It seems odd to me that the regions in some of the bigger revenue sports were created to save money on travel expenses, and then they create massive regions that stretch across the state for one of the lowest revenue sports that travel two to three times a week. I just don't understand it.
  3. Hey star raider if you can call me or coach harmon. Thanks Lee
  4. my coach told me after i was injured my senior year that "set backs are just chances to grow, god never puts more on someone than he KNOWS they can handle." After watching Josh over the past few years i'm sure that he is strong in wrestling and in faith. With kids like him wrestling is just a stepping stone and he is going to go on to accomplish greater things than he ever could on a mat. I'm sorry he did not get a chance to enjoy one more run in Chattanooga. I was looking foward to him representing our region let me know if I can do anything to help.
  5. I think as far as refs the host schools usually pays the cost and it might actually give them another gate...As far as our region they have already divided it into two districts. Cookeville, Forrest, Friendship Christian, and Eagleville would have to be included though because they are only in our dual region and not our individual region. It might also save money on bus fees to shift more importance on districts, I don't know how I'm going to get every region team in with only 18 dates (four of which will go to t'ments). I guess there will be alot of quads next year.
  6. With a return of large regions, should TSSAA look at having district t'ments where the top four qualify for the region, and then the top four in region qualify for state. I believe this would give more opportunity to praise kids and grow the sport. In a sport that is often overlooked I think any thing that gives the kids more credit (district champion etc.) would be a good move. In our region, we are going from a 11 team region where the top 3 get acknowledged (state advancement) to a 20 something team region where only the top 4 get recognition. This seems to be going in the opposite direction for growing a sport. This could be done by simply adding one week to the season.
  7. Does anyone have the results from the Tullahoma / Riverdale / Coffee County tri? Siegel won a tight one with Warren County, with alot of help from forfeits, (Warren is extremely tough on the mat but have not fielded a full team~it would be scary to see what Turner could do with 14 wrestlers) and won over Lincoln as well. I agree that 160 might be the toughest. I think there will be a really good region tournament for 112's and 285's as well. The 171 weight class may not have many big names but I think may be the most contested from top to bottom.

    Region 5

Thanks. He wrestled 189 at Smyrna, either way I think he will be involved with a great match. Kennedy (189) and I believe Ryan has a state champ at 171 (not sure though) should be some really good stuff going. Are there any more matchups you are looking foward to I'm sure with Blackman Ryan and Tullahoma there are going to be a few.

  16. Congrats to the Blaze. Hamm and Harmon have done an outstanding job creating a great squad. I really wanted to say that great job to Michael Kennedy, Josh Patton, and Tate Mustin (Lincoln County) as well. It is a pleasure to see kids that are that good on the matt and handle them selves with alot of class to. I have never witnessed these kids do anything to discrace themselves, their teams, or their opponents. They are an example of what makes this sport great. Great Job and good luck the rest of the way. I feel our region will be represented well this year in Chattanooga.

  19. Thanks Matheny it means alot to me, but I assure you my kids improvement has more to do with them than me. They are a great group of kids who have won a lot of matches this year dispite me being outcoached.
