  1. Now more than ever, we need to support our only Division 1 wrestling program in the state of TN. By attending a wrestling camp at UTC you are helping fund the program. The higher the turnout, the more likely we are to retain quality coaches and have money to travel, and recruit. UTC is not given much financial support from the University and relies heavily on the support of the wrestling community and alumni. Every summer you have a chance to help keep UTC wrestling alive and well. The staff puts on a great camp that provides each wrestler with an unforgettable experience. Over the past few years only a few TN teams have attended the wrestling camps with the vast majority coming from GA. TN, please support your Division 1 Wrestling program and get a great week of camp as well. www.utcwrestlingcamps.com Featured Clinicians: Chris Bono, Nate Gallick, Randy Lewis

  6. I am 1000% in agreement to lower the number of weight classes. I am an economics teacher and I teach everyday that competition creates a better quality product. Instead of begging kids to come out just so he can fill a weight class and possibly take advantage of the fact that other people have forfeits, I would love to come in the room and have people fighting for their position. It will make everyone better. I know when I'm looking over my shoulder at somebody who wants to start over me, I may work a little harder and therefore be a better wrestler. It would also solve the whole double elimination thing at the TN state tournament. The arguement about not having enough time would be gone.
  7. The argument that there are time restraints is ridiculous. Georgia has 5 state champions with double elimination. 5A-32man, 4A-32man, 3A-32man, 2A-16man, 1A-8man. If Ronnie Carter needs help wrapping his head around this monumental task with only 2 state tournaments, with one being barely over a 16 man bracket, then tell him to come attend a Georgia State tournament and take notes. There are over 3 times the amount of wrestling programs in Georgia than TN. GA mangages to get it done. TN needs double elimination, without changes. It will only help the sport grow with more exposure by keeping it 32.
  8. Congratulations to Casey Thompson on getting the Head Coaching position at the new Signal Mtn. High School. You will do a great job starting, and building that program. Good luck!

Check out www.utcwrestlingcamps.com It has journal entries from guys on the team about what their doing and thinking as far as competition and training go. GREAT mental coaching tool.
  10. Lithia Springs High School in Douglasville, GA will be hosting a varsity tournament on Dec 21st, and 22nd. This is late notice because a tournament we were attending cancelled their tournament. We like the format so we will keep it for ours. Their will be two pools of four teams wrestled on Friday night with one crossover match. So every team will wrestle 4 matches on Friday. Then wrestlers will be seeded accordingly for the traditional tournament to follow on Saturday. This is a great opportunity to get your kids a lot of matches before the Christmas break. We will only have 8 teams total. I have one maybe two spots left. If you are interested please contact me. Josh.Ward@douglas.k12.ga.us 423-762-8702
  11. Georgia wins at 125 for sure. Mathew Stanfield beat the state champ from TN along with other place winners at the weight and finished 3rd in AA.
  12. What a great article. I got to see this kid perform last summer at Brands's West Georgia Camp and I was thoroughly impressed. Goodluck to Boatright and Grayson at the state tournament. A state title couldn't come to a better kid.
  13. Josh Ward wrestled at Red Bank and for UTC. I think you are confusing him with Kevin Ward. Kevin is still at OSU as a graduate assistant.
  14. Not yet. It is way too early to tell. I know that Bono would have a better idea. I expect a good turnout if UTC continues to do as well as they are doing. The fact that Brands is coming back to work the camp should factor in as well. Bono's contact info is on either gomocs.com or utcwrestlingcamps.com. Any more news I hear I will let everyone know.
  15. With the way UTC is dominating so far, It would be great if people from TN would show the support for TN wrestling and attend the best camp in the state. Chris Bono-national champion and world team member, and Terry Brands-world champion are the main clinicians. Team camps allow all wrestlers to get matches and experience along with personal instruction from great clinicans and current collegiate wrestlers. It is also a great chance for young athletes to see how wrestlers at the next level train. There is something for every age division. The 10 day intensive camp would be a perfect opportunity for wrestlers to get top notch training and instruction before Fargo. There is even a little kids camp for youngsters to learn as well. You can get all the information you need and register by going to utcwrestlingcamps.com. utcwrestlingcamps.com
