  1. AMEN! You are either the champion of you're not. Who cares who the first loser is?
  2. Region 6 gets the 4th qualifier in all weight classes because that region had the most wrestlers advance the deepest into the state tournament. The others were granted a bye on a blind draw. It just happens that the regions mentioned came up twice.
  3. As a former hs band member I would say marching band was more fun because it was easier. But as a current band director and educator, I would say concert season is better for far too many reasons to list. It seems ridiculous to me to spend nearly six months on three pieces of music. What if all you did in English class was read and rehearse the same 3 poems every day in class? As an English teacher, you wouldn't be employed very long. Music is not a sport. It is not a competition. It is an art form. When we focus on "we're not as good as they are," then we miss the point. My fellow directors and I should be more concerned with the individual development of each player. The focus should be "are we better now than when we started?" This is why I prefer concert season. Concert season gives us festival, which is a band being measured against a set of set criteria, and not against others bands. (Yes, I know that marching competition also has criteria. But it adds the element of finishing ahead of someone else.) In addition, I get to see my family more during concert season. Don't get me wrong, I love a good marching band. But I presonally prefer concert season. The Doctor of Musical Mayhem
  4. Will the non-qualifying regions recognize their 4th place finishers (4th place medal)? Or is that up to each region to decide?
  5. According to the TSSAA handbook, the state bracket will be released the week following the completion of all region tournaments. There is a rather detailed description of who gets placed where based on previous state medalits both Tennessee and transfers from other states, region champs, and so on. The final criteria in the seeding process is "blind draw."
  6. My son was in violation one time. It was an accident, but it was a violation. I didn't know this until our coach told me how he has to report each weigh in and it is monitored by an independant agency. The one student I reported on dropping down qualified at his drop down weight but chose to wrestle up for most of the season. (A good kid who has beaten my son all eight times they've faced each other over the last two seasons) Is this a perfect system? No. But it's better than putting peoples lives at risk, which is what we had under the old way. No one's life is worth a chunk of cheap metal and a life time of past glory bragging.
  7. Okay, Ijust heard that Santos, Region 4, is moving down to 130 for regions. If this is true, then here are MY (totaly my own observations here) top region 4 135's: Ryan Fuller (Soddy) Spike Rawn (Notre Dame) Rob Allen (Ooltewah) Fighting in there somewhere and could pull an upset for that third spot at region are: Quentin Stampfli (East Ridge) Josh Howard (Chatt. Christian) BTW - Stampfli and Howard have split their two matches against each other. Howard won by pin and Stampfli by points.
  8. Names, names, names. How 'bout giving weight classes. It seems all the names here are for the three lowest weight classes (some minor exceptions). Last year 53 freshmen made state. 36 of those were in the 3 lightest classes. 20 were in the 103 class. From 125 through heavey weight 17 freshmen qualified, with no weight class having more than 3 freshmen. How about those freshmen who are 125 and up who have wrestled varsity all year? Seeing as how those kids are going up against older more mature wrestlers, it would seem that these are the "best freshmen wreslters." To face no other freshmen all season and still have a winning record would be an impressive feat indeed. Any one like that out there?
  9. Region 4 135 Ryan Fuller (Soddy) Spike Rawn (Notre Dame) Chris Santos (Marion Co.)
