  1. Betsy fans probably want to listen to this guy, he knows the Burg like the back of his hand! Speaking of golf we need to go tee it up "Brad!"
  2. Good luck to both teams. While I agree that Greeneville is a double digit favorite, they better not have the same disrespect for the Eagles that some of you have. They run a difficult offense to stop that requires very disciplined, assignment football by the opposing defense to stop it. They run it very well with some pretty good players. With that said, if Greeneville comes out with fire in their eyes I believe it will be a sound beating, but if they are the least bit sluggish Gibbs could turn this into a game.
  3. Don't be sending people to Best Italian! Thats where I'm going for pre-game (if the wife gets off work in time, don't want to be late for the game) Good luck to G-P! I'm not a huge fan being a Smoky Bear alum, but I would rather see the East Hades Red Devils win than any Carter Co. team other than Cloudland. No offense to the Cyclones, just not a huge fan of a certain school(s) up there. Any way, I'm gonna say Highlanders in a close one, lets say 24-17.
  4. I've tried to avoid posting on this thread, but I have to say a few things, some may agree, some won't, and some won't care. With all that being said, I think Mike is a good football coach, you don't win games and put your program in the position hes put his in not knowing the game. As for JC being a better coach than Mike, I think most people know that Mike coached that team for the last few years, the wins just went on JC's record. Now, I also think that Hampton has a hard time when they play a team that can match their size because they don't really throw the ball great and teams can stack the box on them. Not always the coach's fault, I don't think that they had a QB that could win them games by throwing the football, but unless you call the plays you never know. Also from what I've gathered reading this thread the Price kid is a real wedge that seems to have drove the team apart and it sounds like the program will be better off without him next year, but why did they put up with him this year would be my question, and only Mike can answer that, so we will never know his side of the story, so none of us will ever fully understand what was going on behind the scenes, because its none of our business! Look, every coach runs thier program different, I'm not taking up for Mike and I'm not agreeing with him either, but being a coach myself, I have an idea how I will run my team if I ever get a chance to be a head coach, and I'm sure not everyone will agree with it, but thats just the way it is and parents, boosters, and supporters will never fully agree, because they don't know the real reason we coach. Its not for the money, I'll tell you that! Most of us do it because we love the game and we love teaching the game we love to kids, because we love being around kids and we want to see our boys succeed. I think everybody needs to take a step back and really take a look at what your coach has done for your school and your community, I think EVERYBODY NEEDS TO DO THAT IN EVERY COMMUNITY!!!! Chances are your kids love their coach and what he does or has done for them, so learn a lesson from your kids and pat your coach on the back, because trashing him will only lead you down a road you don't want to go. See yall next year at "THE NEST!"
  5. Bigblue....Sorry to hear about your father. There are several sites out there for information on leukemias and lymphomas. Have you tried googling (or your favorite search engine) on his disease? Or webmd.com, americancancersociety.org, etc. Good luck and Trust in the Lord! Thanks so much for your time and infromation, all we can do now is trust in the Lord and have comfort in knowing that Dad is a saved man!
  6. Not trying to be nosy, but what kind of cancer did the coach suffer from? My father is terminal with this awful disease as well and I'm trying to learn as much about all different kinds. My father's is called Mantle Cell Lymphoma, and he has battled it for 6 years, thats 4 years longer than the average person lives once diagnossed with this certain type. Any info is greatly appriciated, and my thoughts and prayers are certainly with the community and his family. Thanks and God Bless.
  7. Yeah, that post right there just wreaks of innocence! Attitude is not a bad thing especially in football, but it does have limits, and giving the "bird" to the oppossing team's bench would be a case of those limits being exceded. I don't know what happened so I can't say one way or the other what happened, but I like OldEagle have noticed a serious decine in respect for authority by adolecent males AND females over the years, and the thing about it is I'm not very old. Its all happened in the last few years and its a very sad thing to see.
  8. Solly I picked Bearden in your lifetime membership give away also. I've seen SC play one time and that was on tv and seen Bearden one time against Maryville to me based soley on those games Bearden just has more weapons. But let me say this about SC years ago my family owned a restaurant in Maryville and one Friday afternoon we fed the entire SC team on their way to some far off playoff game and I have never met a better group of young men! We told them as they were leaving they were welcome back anytime just as we told a local team not to ask us to feed the team again, based on poor behavior and a head coach who apparently saw nothing wrong with it. Congrats to the SC coaches and players on a perfect regular season but I think Bearden just has more play makers, but it won't upset me if you prove me wrong.LOL The year was 1994, and we were going to play at Bradley Central. I was on that team that ate at your family's place, and you are right about Coach Brewer and his staff. Theres not a better group of leaders of young men in the state. I know that my opinion is a biased one since I played of Coach Brewer but trust me when I say the Bears will be ready! Again, thanks for the nice comments about us and our coaching staff!
  9. Well, CG is anything but healthy right now. I looked out there on Friday and saw kids all over the place playing out of position!! But, that's why they play the game...anything can happen, especially in hs football. In the end though, i feel that all the injuries and the youth will be one of the big differences. I would feel a whole lot better with the whole cast playing! Good luck CG, give'em heck on friday! You guys have busted your butts all year and have fought til the end. Keep on gettin after 'em! A daunting task for sure, but any team on any given night! Remember CAK in 04 I think it was, a bottom seed that made it to the SHIP! Good luck Panthers, from the Eagles.
  10. Thank you very much Bigblue...is Cosby in the playoffs as well? Gotta win tonite vs Unaka, winner goes!
  11. Like I said before jerk, we have played up, way up in our non-conference schedule. Three of those wins are against district opponents which I'm pretty sure you have to play. Nobody said that Travis was going to the HOF, they are proud of a kid that plays his guts out, and there is nothing wrong with that. Hes gettn 4.6 yards per tote against what you presume to be quality opponents, thats pretty good, that moves the chains every third carry, not bad against good defenses!
  12. This is going to be a SERIOUS beatn! Good luck to the Panthers in the playoffs, this Eagle is now a CG fan, except for when we play that is!
  13. Explain to me how we are a horrible single A team when everyone of our out of district games came against much bigger schools, and they are all, with the exception of PF going to the playoffs, and two of them are ranked in the top 10 in the state. The only game we have lost when we play teams our size is Hampton, and the only two games we were never in was the GP and Claiborne games. We replaced about 80 percent of our offense this year, and every front 7 position on defense had a new starter, so if that is horrible in your book so-be-it, but if we played the Tigers again the outcome might be a little different, but neither of us can hold GP's jock this year!
  14. Unfortunately this game will NOT be as close as people are saying it might be. The Tigers almost slipped up on the Highlanders last year and Benny won't let it happen again. As far as the whole "Fieldgate" deal at GP, trust me that field was ruinned back in August, and the weather has just kept it wet and nasty all year. I would love to see the Tigers get a win, but I think it will be pretty one-sided. GP 42-PF 7
  15. I was very impressed with the level of sportsmanship that the Panthers displayed and what a great game! Gap pulled away in the 4th but up until then it was nip and tuck with both teams playing well on offense and even played a little "D" every once in a while. Good luck to the Panthers the rest of the year, #31 is a dadgum stud! very impressed with that guy, can only imagine the numbers he would've put up if he'd been healthy all year.
  16. I tried to tell them the same thing, only i didn't know about the clay bed, that explains why that field has been terrible since week 2!
  17. I saw Alcoa last night, and I can't wait for my Roadrunners to see them on the field. It will be a great game. The GP field was not a mess until the game started. Before the game, they had grass on the field, but the entire field had about 1-3 inches of standing water. There were puddles all around the field... you could not get onto the field without walking through big puddles of water. Their practice field was wet, but it didn't have standing water... and their were no puddles of water anywhere else other than around the field. GP watered down the field... probably late at night so nobody would see it. If we end up in the east quad and have to play GP again, then it will be in Knoxville. Even if it does rain, the conditions won't be as bad as they were at GP. Whatever you have to tell yourself, bottom line is the game is over, and no matter what happens from here on out, it will be Alcoa representing the east in Cookeville, and there is not a whole lot that anybody can do about it!
  18. First and foremost I am NOT a GP fan, but I can tell you that their field has been a mess since the second week of the season and it just gets worse with all the rain. Coach Hammonds and the Highlanders have a very good team this year, and if I'm not mistaken the Fulton game was AT Fulton! Lets wait til the playoffs and see what happens there, my guess is the Falcons, AE, or GP doesn't want to see Alcoa in a parking lot!
  19. If Robert went to Cocke Co. he would be their best player. He's the best football player in the county EASY! But if Krys and those guys want to come to Cosby and help us out they are more than welcome, we could always use the depth!
  20. Ok first Bigblue...we are the Panthers!! Secondly...that sounds awesome!! I don't think enough schools do this sort of thing. Pink Out in Cosby! Will def be wearing mine if i'm able to make the trip! My fault veerman At least I knew it was a big cat! Thanks for your support and PLEASE again wear your PINK, I know OldEagle and myself will wear ours! Like he said, its important to show our kids how important this cause is, I myself have been touched by this terrible disease, my aunt is a breast cancer survivor, and my dad is battling mantle-cell lymphoma, so PLEASE lets turn out in our PINK and raise as much awareness we can!!!! Again I apologize to the PANTHER nation, and I won't let it happen again!
  21. I think this will be an interesting game, not sure what the weather is going to be like, hope its nice but it doesn't look good Hope all the Cougars have a safe trip down, and I know this sounds goofy, but if all the Gappers would wear pink it would be nice. We'er having a Breast Cancer awareness thing and we're looking to PINK out the stadium, both teams will be wearing pink ribbons on their helments, and the coaches will also wear them on their hats or shirts. So if you've been touched by this terrible disease, PLEASE show your support for a cure and wear your PINK!!
  22. I'd like to see 2-A quads, if you don't mind, because I have no idea what they might look like. Thanks!
  23. Look, I know this is a Hampton/Unaka thread, and I have give my prediction, so barring any more psychotic outbursts this will be my final post. Two teams have beaten Maryville in the last 82 games and Alcoa was one of them, they have won 5 STRAIGHT gold balls, they have a roster with a handful of D-1 players and several other 1-AA and D-2 players, they beat the reigning 4-A state champ from Kentucky by about 40, the most points their defense has given up in a game was to Maryville (24), I mean you could go on forever about these guys, thier resume is unworldly!!! They would beat anybody in 1-A or 2-A by 28, and thats the best teams we could throw at them, some of the other playoff teams would get 90 hung on em, ask Gatlinburg-Pittman. No matter what you want to believe Alcoa would score 70 if Rankin wanted to, and like I said triple digits against anybody else in our region. Look at their schedule and look at yalls and tell me who on their schedule yall could beat, much less manhandle. I know you're all Hampton all the time, but use some common sense man, they wouldn't even break a sweat brother. Now are we ever going to know, i doubt it, but i bet Rankin would be willing to stay in state instead of having to travel to Kentucky or North Carolina if Mike would call and ask him for a game, something to think about, we all know you could help make it happen, then maybe you'd shut me and everybody else up about it, sounds like a plan, put em on the schedule in two years, I'm sure they probably won't be as good as they are this year.
  24. I understand what Dawgbacker is saying, they only beat Loudon by 21-0, but the score wasn't that close, yall have a fine football team and I can't see yall getting beat before the third round of the playoffs this year, but if Alcoa played Loudon now, they would score 40, just like they have on everybody else except Fulton. I agree, in most cases it is night to night, but in this case it would be Jaron Toney ALL NIGHT!! The only reason that Alcoa only scored 21 against Loudon is because that was the week after the Maryville game and I'm sure EVERYBODY in Alcoa still had the "Maryville Hangover." Please don't confuse this post with me bashing Hampton, and me stating facts, I've said repeatedly that yall have a fine team, just not one that could be on the field with Alcoa, and who is going to beat Alcoa in 3-A? They play their best football in the playoffs!
  25. Is the moron statement directed at me? Yeah I think they can give them a run, don't know for how long didn't say they would get a win, or did I? big guys run out of steam. I bet they would know we were there. Like I said before, no one in our classification would give Alcoa a game, because they can't match up athletically. They scored 48 points on Maryville and didn't throw a single pass. I know that everybody is partial to their home team, but the only way Alcoa would know that yall were there is seeing the bus pull up, and like I said earlier, its not a knock or a shot at Hampton, its the fact that Alcoa is a 5 time defending state champ, that could win the gold ball in every classification this year, and yall are a good 2-A school that will likely not get out of the third round this year. Yall are BY FAR the best team in our region, so before everybody starts your, "you couldn't beat them either," or "we killed yall," talk, I, unlike some of you, understand that, but trust me, take it from somebody that has been around a bigger program, and seen superior talent, they would hang 70 on yall, and likely triple digits on anyone else in our region!
