  1. You really need more than a couple of hours to train for 3 man. It takes days of teaching, reviewing, and practicing. And it has to be taught by guys who know it, which is usually a college ump trainer, director, or supervisor. Then it takes many games or sometimes a couple of seasons for sime to ever get it right. There is more to it than some know. I called college ball for several years and it is one of the more difficult things to learn.
  2. It should have been the Columbia association. Supposed to use only one asssociation and D 10 voted to use the Columbia guys. Yes they are ALWAYS horrible. They don' know baseball in general very well.
  3. At the meetings the last two years they have strictly emphasized the jewelry and profanity rules. The umpires get it as I am supposed to go over it at pregame and that IS the warning. Most umpires just make them take it off and that is it. But every now and then you will get one in a bad mood that will send them right away. The profanity is taken more seriously.
  4. There is no warning for profanity. An umpire is supposed to eject right away. Do you go to the preseason coaches/umpires meetings with TSSAA?
  5. PageMan is awesome. He was even raking the field one morning during the Shoney's tournament. How many scorekeepers do that?? He has the tunes too!! He loves AC/DC!!
  6. Here it is : The umpires go over this with the coaches during pregame. He can automatically eject the player. If the ump is doing his job right then he ejects him immediately. Then a sub is entered. The ump was not nit picky at all- the coach should know this. This has been a rule for years. Too bad.
  7. Saturday Page plays @ Harpeth at 3:00 and then travels to DC to play Hunters Lane at 6:00 and DC following.
  8. Coach Ragan at DC said he doesn't think it is playable.
  9. Page High School from Franklin was there and went 3-1. The beat Montour High (PA) and Lawrence Academy (MASS) on one hitters. Montour is a stud team. They were shocked. Also defeated Sidwell Friends (DC). Lost to Midlleton , WI who has 2000 students, 4-1. I say we made a name for ourselves.
  10. yeah they are human but are paid to pay attention and be competent enough to be out there. I watch the umps closely every play to see what they are doing. I have umped for 20 years now at higher levels than any of Keith's guys including Keith himself and about 80% of them are bozos.
  11. I think I could strike out 21 against Huntland with no arms.
  12. Matt Bowling of Page was batting with a Jeff Hughes on third. Matt fouls off the first pitch (0-1). The next pitch he misses a squeeze and Hughes is tagged out at the plate (0-2). He takes a pitch- ball (1-2). Next pitch he swings and misses - strike 3 right? NOPE. Matt stays in the box and the ump has no clue. Of course, the Page coach says nothing and obviously the opposing coach doesn't know either. Well,, Bowling now singles on the next pitch (HA!!) He steals second, and then scores on another single, all of this with 2 outs by the way. Should have been 3. Good thing Page won by 4 and not by 1!!!

    UMPS

How about this? - Matt Bowling of Page fouls off the first pitch. The next pitch he tries to squeeze bunt and misses and Hughes is tagged out at the plate. Count- 0-2. The next pitch is a ball 1-2. The next pitch Matt swings and misses. Strike 3 right? NOPE. Matt stays there in the box ready for another pitch. Umpire has no clue. Next pitch- Bowling singles to left. He then steals second and scores on another singe. Boy, some umpires are in left field- no pun intended. Good thing Page won by 4 that game and not by 1.
  14. I thought he played for a Twitty City team last year. I umped a game when he was pitching
  15. Dr. Burton Elrod in Nashville. Tennessee Titans doctor
  16. How about Matt Bowling getting a 4th strike in the 4th(oops) and then getting a single, stolen base, and a run scored. Man - what if we had just won by one run???
  17. Well 12 pitches maybe Ok- but you say he throws year around?? Now his arm will be mush by the time he gets to College. Hopefully he takes off the late fall months to rest. He is really good- I would hate to see problems when he gets older.
  18. How much did Lintz throw tonight. Gosh- he just threw over 8 innings on Monday night. A hard thrower needs to rest. His arm will be mush by May.
  19. Thanks, Pageman. Thanks for being out there with us! See you tonight vs. the Tigers.
  20. Thanks to all teams for coming. It takes months to organize a tournament and then Mother Nature messes it all up. I did what I could to make everyone happy and hope each team was satisfied. Thanks to SHONEY'S for helping all of this possible. No team had a fee ( only baseballs). I think this is the best invitational around and hope to make it better next year. All teams were great- thanks to Coach Courtney (Eagleville) Coach Daniel (Sycamore) Coach Baynham (USN) and Coach Tipps (Huntland) for coming and hanging in there. It was a late night on Saturday. Coach Hollingsworth PAGE PATRIOTS
  21. It is Chas Parrish. He is a good coach- from Davidson- State Champs before. I think he is not too deep in his pitching, but definitely that is too many. Even if he throws year round. Eventually that will catch up with him too. Pitchers should take Nov. Dec. and half of January off. Rest is an incredible recipe for a great arm later in life. Dad's think they have to throw year around, they don't know much.
  22. Atlanta Braves - who are you?? Besides an idiot who knows nothing about baseball.
