  1. Another good example would be soda.
  2. I got a chance to Sonny Gray from Smyrna pitch this week-end. He is as good as advertised!! Very good fastball, and good offspeed stuff as well. I'd say Gant and Gray are easily the best two upcoming junior pitchers to watch in 07. Neither one of them is a very imposing figure, but both have electric stuff.
  3. David Price goes to Vanderbilt University. He's a 6'6 lefty that throws 95 with an ungodly slider!!
  4. He's a great player. Good size and speed. Good luck in the future!! Is there any chance he is related to an elementary school teacher in Hardin County?
  5. Yeah, I heard he was very good. They're both very talented. I've never seen Catapano pitch, so Minor is still the best high school pitcher I've ever seen. Those are very impressive numbers. Also, I've seen Barttlett hit, and I'd give them the edge over Forrest or Mckenzie offensively. Both guys are definitely going to do well at the next level.
  6. I thought the class A championship was a very good game!! The biggest difference I saw in the two pitchers was simple. Minor dominated in the strike zone, and Hayes dominated outside of it. Hayes was definitely throwing a little harder. Hayes did a great job, and you can't fault a guy for throwing chest high if the hitters are consistently chasing it up there. I'm from west TN, and I've seen Hayes since he was 13 or 14, and I've really enjoyed watching him develop. I don't think there has been anyone in a long time that can throw any harder than this kid. Watching minor for the second time this year, it was clear that he is the best high school pitcher I have ever seen. He is totally effortless with all of his pitches. He could get college hitters out right now. Command, mound presence, and overall stuff make him special. Guys like this don't come around very often. Yes, he got beat(by a very good team), but he is still the most polished high school pitcher in TN this year!! The kid can throw a 2-0 or 3-1 change all day. Again not taking anything away from Hayes, because he is great also. I just think Minor is third or maybe even fourth tier!!
  7. Calling Clifft wild would be like saying Albert Pujols is an average hitter. It goes much further than that. He throws an average fastball with mediocre breaking stuff. If Forrest is hitting at all, they should light him up!! I don't think that will be the story though. Skelley is going to be too much for the Mustangs to handle. I wouldn't be surprised if 2 runs beats Huntingdon with Skelley going for the Rockets!!
  8. Thanks for the info, Captain Obvious!!
  9. Nice job by the Mustangs today against Unaka!! They've definitely got their work cut out for them with Forrest though. Two different classes of baseball. Skelley should totally dominate them. I don't see Clifft holding the Rockets offense down either. Probably a very one-sided game that sends Huntingdon to the losers bracket.
  10. You only need to see Minor once to know that he's great. I saw him in Murfreesboro against Hunter's Lane. #2 for Forrest(Skelley) is better than anyone Huntingdon has, or has seen all year. As for other info, all I can tell you is either one will go through Huntingdon like a cicrle saw through a sheet of plywood!!
  11. Unaka may go down, but Huntigdon will not win the championship. They have had a great season so far though. Don't forget Forrest is in this tournament also. They are far too strong for Huntingdon!!
  12. I could see Huntingdon and Mckenzie in the championship game. That is if Minor and Skelley both get food poisoning or something. Forrest will definitely be in the championship game.
  13. You obviously have no clue about anything pertaining to this game. I will say again that Dyer and Miller are very decent people, and they both happen to be quite knowledgeable concerning baseball. If I had a high school-aged kid, then it would be an unprecedented scientific happening. As for your last comment, I suggest you feel again.
  14. You don't have to be at every game to know what day they are played. Nelson is a very good pitcher. He's beaten almost every team that Gant has. There is no reason to attack either Dyer or Miller as it concerns character. Both have plenty of it!! As far as your "stories" go, I'd just as soon listen to a collie dog barking. I know them, and I have nothing but respect for either one of them!!
  15. USJ and Covington played on Wednesday buddy. Covington won 3-0, and USJ booted some balls on the infield. Gant is a sohpomore, and niether Miller nor Dyer are egotistical at all. So as for the facts, there they are!!
  16. I agree totally. That type of attitude has no place in this game. This is the most difficult game to be successful at by a large margin. The most important thing to remember is that talent does not always decide who plays and who sits. Attitude, work ethic, and respect/commitment to the game goes along way. I have a problem with the assumption that the nine who play are the most talented or athletic nine on the team, and that is the end of it. To dismiss a person's hard work by saying it is all God-given is not right. Yes, you must have a certain level of talent to play this game at any level, but if you do not improve on that talent, then you've wasted it. Generally, the stuff that goes on when it is only you and a tee/ or a mound is what makes the difference. Those players that are prepared usually show very little emotion and cause minimal if any problems. That is learned at home. If complaining is replaced with hard work and reality then everyone would be prepared and there would be no egos to cater to. None of this is directed at you personally. I agree with your post.
  17. How many earned runs does Covington have off Gant or Nelson in three games this year? I think we all know the answer to this question. It wouldn't matter if there were 25 students at USJ or 3000, I'd be concerned with those 2 if I were in your position. Covington has pitched very well against USJ too, but don't start with the nonsense about USJ competing in AA again.
  18. As far as I know they've been 3 and 4 all year. Maybe you should check and see if I'VE ever called them anything else. I do agree that both teams looked very flat. I was THERE and I thought Covington did a very good job also!! Did I not just say they were 3 and 4 immediately after they got beat by Covington? I think you may have me confused with another person.
  19. USJ is definitely close to the top of this list. Their nos. 1 and 2 can compete with anyone in the state in AA. 3 and 4 are both young, but they have been pretty solid. Of all the teams on this list so far, I can't think of one that has better 1,2 combo than the Bruins. As for 3 and 4, they only gave up 3 runs against Covington tonight. I didn't see either one get hit real hard either.
  20. I feel pretty confident that Lexington will win with Patterson on the mound. He's done a fine job for the Tigers all year. It doesn't hurt to have the kind of run support he gets either. They have a great offensive ball club over there. If Harpeth does have great pitching, then it could be very interesting. If not, Lexington will dominate!!
  21. Good luck. I don't understand why you would concede 3 or 4 runs to Mckenzie and Brown and seem confident to win 8-3. Earlier reports say Brown shut Huntingdon out the in his first start against them. Was he not throwing the same"little league" fastball then? Logic would say that IF Clifft holds them to 3 or 4, then Mckenzie still wins by a couple. What am I missing?
  22. Well, it was worth a shot!! Seriously, this should be an exciting game. Both teams are capable of scoring several runs. USJ has not shown as much firepower as Covington in the head to head match-ups though. Maybe tonight will be the night they explode offensively. If not, I'll still take USJ or Covington over the rest of the AA field this year!!
  23. You can't be serious about Talbot leading any team. I don't know the Deaton kid, but Talbot couldn't play dead!! I can't believe he made the high school team, but if he's leading southside I'd be really surprised. They're usually pretty decent. I will agree that JSS had a nice run this year though!!
  24. I can't make it a 4:30, but I'd go for a keg after the game!!
