  1. I still think the best idea I have heard was the Merit system that G has proposed. Yes, it would take some work to form the proper criteria for where you are placed, but if you are very successful over the course of a 4 year period, you move to a higher level. If you are rebuilding, you could move to a lower class and still be competitive. I think we lose sight of the fact we want the players to be competitive as a team and grow from the lessons a good coach will teach about hard work leading to success. I know some teams that work very hard only to be pitted against much tougher competition that would make it difficult to ever advance. A lot of those players go into an entire season knowing they will never advance. If we could find a way to level it all with disregard of size and put the best against the best regardless of size or scholarship and work our way down as far as a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd divisions it seems that is most fair to the student athletes. I know it's a long shot, but I would be willing to help on a committee to iron out the details. Unfortunately I know this is highly ambitious and unlikely to pass through TSSAA, but we did beat the 50% rule as a group. Just my 2 cents. P.S. Just think of how much better the matches would be at state in all classes.
  2. All you Vets of the T know how this will end if we get off topic, so please mention all appropriate information. I believe these girls do deserve to be recognized for a huge accomplishment. Oak Ridge only has one right now, but a few more continuing the process so I will update as they commit. Kaelyn Angelo, Oak Ridge, University of Tennessee, Knoxville. FC Alliance.
  3. No real hunter needs the 2 extra shots. One shot One kill!
  4. Some schools will keep official time on the scoreboard. You would stop the time for any score, bookings, or injury. So if the player goes down with a cramp. The ref would signal to stop the clock and they would deal with the injured player. In the scenario where the clock is stopped at 2 minutes so the ref keeps time on the field. He is still supposed to stop the game at 80 mins (or if in OT whatever the extended period you are in). The ref should have been stopping his watch as the game went along for the same things the clock operator would. Now, if the ref is keeping the time usually it seems like there is added time because often the Scoreboard time will not stop in sequence with the ref. Do some refs give added time, I think we all know they do. But when you have the Official time on the scoreboard you are done at 80 mins. Trust me, learned that lesson at state in 2009 when the ball was actually traveling towards the goal but hadn't crossed the line when the buzzer sounded. No goal. Keep playing.
  5. Wait, do you mean I'm the little brother? Have you ever met me and G, he's the little one! =P And he is way older!
  6. The players that have earned starting positions deserve to start in every match. There are ways to improve your team without running up a score. I hate the coaches that allow "stat mongering" as I call it. I know a few coaches that have subtle signals that allow a team to still improve during the course of a match. I know I pull players quickly and make adjustments if it is apparent the game will get out of hand. I would take it as an insult if I knew the other team has started a lesser lineup than it is capable of doing. I have been on the bad side of lopsided scores and know how it feels. But I would feel much worse if I knew they didn't play their best players and still beat us. Just my opinion. I want to reinforce that I truly find it unacceptable to purposely run up a score. On the idea of cancelling and accepting a forfeit, I believe the 3 nil score is fair, but this needs to be discussed and agreed upon before the season as a possibility or back out a game gracefully so the stronger team may still have time to find a new opponent. It is unfair for a team to back out late, you now punish the players on the stronger team.
  7. Aha! our first post on the "Hard" vs. "Soft" red card. The Hard red is a direct red card and results in expulsion and no substitution. So a team would play a man down. The Soft red is really a double yellow and results in expulsion,BUT you may substitute a player. It is basically like fouling out in basketball. You're gone, but we sub for you. It's a quirky rule that came into a play a few years ago in TN, don't know if anyone else uses it. Also, a red card results in a 2 game suspension, though I remember there is an exception that results in only a one game suspension. I think it is only for a deliberate handball to save a goal, or a tactical foul to stop a breakaway as the last defender. Someone please correct me if any of this is inaccurate.
  8. This is a topic that is great to discuss. But, the arguments for both sides can be made. My opinion, which is not worth much, is that we do play a subjective game and it has worked well for a long time. If technology can help and not break up the game, then I am all for it. But I would hate to have a game stopped to review a play. You would love it if it rewarded you and hate it when it doesn't. At the highest levels I can see this working, but only if a system is in place that doesn't stop the game. There is a reason I do not ref, I would rather coach and take that abuse. They have a thankless job and are very often overlooked to their importance in a match.
  9. Heck, those are my favorite parents!!!!!! I kinda like it when they forget their meds. Disclaimer: this was in no way a reflection of my current parents (you guys are amazing!). I was referring to my club team last year and some of the tournament adventures and stories.
  10. Good to meet you as well, we definitely get that match set up. Did you have to mention the pink polka dots? Now G is actually gonna post that stupid picture.
  11. "This no my pee!" Couldn't resist. I could care less, hand me the cup, but don't blame me if I get stage fright if it's a creepy dude administering the test.
  12. Normally wouldn't post something about Oak Ridge. But just wanted to bring attention to a special event we had today and see if anyone else does this. We played DB at home in our first annual THINK PINK day to bring awareness to Breast Cancer and raise money for Susan G. Komen. I really appreciate Coach Woods bringing his girls down to participate in the event. I know it means a lot to him. I'm not sure how much we raised yet. But we are making a 3rd shirt order to cover demand and sold close to 300 ribbons that are tied to the fence at our complex with the names of someone who has fought this battle. A lot of thought and consideration went into this day, including a pink game ball and pink whistle for the ref! I just wanted to thank everyone involved. Also wanted to see what others do for this cause and see if we can make this grow next year. I'd love to do a day across the state or even just our area where we coordinate together to make it an even better event. I even had BigG with us in a PINK hat supporting the cause! Thanks for coming Bro.
  13. I actually read this as a criticism of eurosport not MJuhb. MJ goes above and beyond with his rankings, I am not sure how he has the time and energy. Eurosport has it's own separate rankings and I believe that is what OTP was discussing. Either way, it will all work itself out at the end of the year. Please stay cordial folks or you know BigG will come hammering down!=P
  14. What is scouting??? Thought that was a group that sold cookies a couple times a year.
  15. Road out of ET looking as tough as ever. Sounds like lots of great matches last night. I know the one I saw was very competitive.
  16. I'll put our field at Oak Ridge up against any in the state. The concessions was already mentioned, which are catered and awesome, but the work done on the field and having it as a soccer only facility make it special. And we actually have a major renovation project in the plans to make it more fan friendly with covered picnic areas, new entrance, and new concession area and bathrooms. Props to all the people working hard behind the scenes to make this happen. And I haven't even posted the pictures of all the work done to our locker room. G, I call the first couch, you can get the second one, just as long as we don't watch a replay of any of our old games on the flat screen.
  17. Some games I noticed that are big for district standings or just good matchups: Maryville @ CAK Catholic @ Lenoir City Powell @ Halls West @ HVA Farragut @ Bearden This will help shake some things out!!!!!
  18. that would be an amazing game.
  19. Baylor - 3 Oak Ridge - 0 Baylor is an amazing squad top to bottom. I was very impressed with #13 and #5 especially, but they were solid everywhere. So organized in the back and so well coached with adjustments and players understanding of the systems they run. Hats off to that Coaching staff and those players on a great match. Really taught my players alot. We are so much better after this weekend even if the results didn't show it. Had a blast with the girls and saw alot of fun times off the field and some improvement on it. Had some adversity and girls stepped up and got to play against some great competition that will only make us better in the long run. Our young girls grew up alot this weekend. Thanks to Houston and Collierville for hosting us and good luck to everyone the rest of the year! Even got to meet canes!!!!! shoot me some pics at ladysoccercats@gmail.com if you get a chance.
