  1. I guess my biggest point of all of this would be when the team losses it falls back on the coach and not the parents. Most coaches give all the credit to the kids when you win a game but take the blame when the team losses. Now how many parents out there do you think loses sleep over a loss like a coach does, my guess would be not very many. In a parents eyes it always it's ok you played a good game and I hear it all the time. Coaches have a job and it's to win games not to make parents happy.
  2. Yes i do agree that there are players that are better game players than practice players. But as a coach you know who those players are. Example is most likely your best players. They know that they are going to play in the games so they don't try as hard during practice. But I will say this, where I coach we try to emphasize the importance of practice. If we see that a starter is slacking in practice then it's time for that starter to face reality and not start the next game. As of other players who might be this way, how can you play a kid that doesn't know the plays or where he is suppose to go or you know when he gets the ball it's more than likely a turnover. These are things that we see as coaches during practice and it makes our decisions easier. If we see that kids are improving and having a good week of practice then yes it's time for him to get his turn slowly and then you judge what he does in games and practices following to decide the playing time he will receive in the next game.
  3. what sleepers do you see that can come out of memphis to play in AAA state tourney?
  4. what stinks is that you have to sit in the cafeteria and watch the games on flat screen tv's but it's not a very good picture.
  5. glad that we could finally agree with each other. I see what your saying and just wanted you to see what i was saying.....
  6. I almost agree. But being a coach we hate when parents ask about their childs playing time. Now there are two different ways to approach a coach about this. If you are asking what your child needs to get better and get playing time that's one thing, but if you are questioning the coaching because your child isn't playing that's another. A coach doesn't have to explain himself to parents about what he is doing and what he is not doing or why john is playing and mike is not. The kids know why they aren't playing and coaches make it clear why they are not playing. When parents start showing up to practices and seeing what's going on then they have they right to question what the coach is doing and who he is playing.
  7. who is he??? Serious question no being smart. who does he play for?
  8. How can a parent judge a coach if they only see what takes place during the games and nowhere else?? I respect your opinion just a question.....
  9. now that's how parents should act at games.
  10. My personal opinion is absolutely not. First a coach doesn't get paid enough money on the high school level to listen to parents gripe about their kids playing time. Next parents aren't at practice to see what goes on and who performs the best at practice. On a coaches level i can honestly say that every night before a game we sit down and write down our top 8 players. Then we will go through and talk about who had good practices leading up to the game. If a player performed well then that player will see action whether it is for 15 minutes or it's 3 minutes. Parents don't understand that we aren't there to babysit your kids, we are there to win basketball games and we are going to take the best players we have to win those games. Of course it looks like we have favorites because we are going to play the best players. If parents are unhappy about their kids playing time they should approach the coach and ask what needs to be done for their kids to get more playing time. There is no reason why a parent should judge a coaches decision on who he plays and why, we shouldn't have to answer that question. If parents are unhappy then there are rec leagues that your kids can play in that will give them plenty of playing time but high school basketball is not the place to see your kids get all the playing time in the world.
  11. As much as i agree with some of your points I would have to disagree that Wright is a better shooter than Thad.
  12. I agree here. If your worried about your kids playing time there is a rec league you can enter him/her in and coach yourself. Coaches put in a lot of time during the season and off season and don't need the interference of parents. Our kids have learned that if they have a problem with their playing time or have questions then our door is always open. Kids know what they need to work on because it's not like we leave them in the dark. I think a lot of kids have a problem to because of all the pressure parents put on kids no days.
  13. I disagree. What right does a parent have to bash coaches because of their kids playing time? Absolutely none. How many parents do you know that come and sit through practices and see what is actually going on. Just because your kid was a star in the recreational league does not mean he will be a star in his local high school. Parents have no clue what goes on in practice therefore should not have a say in what goes on during the game. I'm an assistant coach and we had this problem with parents earlier this year. It made us make the rule that if it happens once we brush it off if the parents come and complain again the kid is suspended for one game. As much as you want every kid to play in a game your trying to win and maybe this year is not the year for the kid to play. Parents have no right to complain about the coaching staff.
  14. When did Hamilton beat Bartlett in Sectionals? The only time i remember was my Junior year when they had Billy Richmond which was back in the 98-99' season. They beat us to win the sectional tournament but was a pointless game because both of us were already going to state. The guy you were thinking about from Westwood was Greg Tucker, very talented. But I do not agree with your statement about not having great success until we got Greg. Before Greg came along Bartlett won 30 or more games before him went to the state tournament 3 years before him and was also ranked 17th in the nation 2 years before his arrival. In the three years before Tucker they had just as good of a chance as anyone to win the state tourney, granted Greg helped my Jr. year getting us to state but you can't say that it was him that turned the Bartlett program around b/c they were much better the years before he appeared on the scene.
  15. What is your opinion on Bartlett making it to state? Who do they have to compete with in their district and in their Region? After they get out of those two who beats them in the sectionals????? anybody??????
  16. I agree with what your saying tiger b/c this was my point in an earlier discussion with you about the talent and coaching. I coach at Bartlett and we have played RE twice with great chances to win both games. What i am saying here though is you can't count ridgeway out. They have a very talented team and can put up points quick. From watching RE through scouting them and playing them they haven't really gotten any better since the beginning of the year they have stayed the same and everyone in our district is catching up to them. I know we (Bartlett) haven't had a great season but if we get by Bolton in the district tourney we will play RE for the third time. Don't be surprised if we don't beat them, we guard their stuff pretty well and we beat their press as well. The only thing that has killed us in the last two games against them is turnovers down the stretched on idiotic plays, if RE gives a team like Hamilton or Ridgeway an opportunity like that then you can bury them quick. Don't be surprised if RE finishes 3rd in District tourney. Atleast as a Bartlett coach that is what we are hoping.
  17. I know one thing about these two players. If you look at both the teams there is no doubt that Mitchell has the better players than BW in my opinion. Brentwood has a good guard in Bone but their other guards are terrible. That's why i think it sticks out that Wright is a better player than Thad. Even though Wright doesn't have as much support around him he still seems to get the team the victory.
  18. i know that some of ya'll don't have ridgeway in there but i will say this they have a chance to beat Hamilton and Raleigh Egypt in the Sectionals to make it. Of course it would help if they still have Niles.
  19. District 14AAA Boys Tourney, I can't remember the girls #1 Raliegh Egypt Bye #4 Bartlett vs. #5 Bolton #2 Cordova Bye #3 Craigmont vs. #6 Millington
