  1. Could be the attitude of those around the program that are bringing it down. I don't think you could say that Union has tore it up since she left! This is the problem with high school sports now, those around programs spew nothing but venom and expect their beloved program to grow and be successful. It takes a supportive administration and community to have a great program! Just my take!
  2. I think that coaching jobs have become too political. You have people in each community that think they know what the game is about. The coach gets too much blame when things go bad. Parents are not there to support the coach or the team too often they are just there to see their kid play. If the team gets beat by 40 and their girl scores 20 then they are happy. Being a coach used to mean something to a community. In this culture the coach is simply the person that lost the game or that the team won in spite of. I'm all for having high standards if a coach has a level of talent on their team that should be competitive and they don't compete or they are flawed with their morals then sure fire them. However, I've seen many let go due to their W-L record in schools that have little or no chance of winning due to talent. Something needs to give here though because fewer and fewer people are wanting to deal with coaching and the game is suffering because of it.
  3. Sorry to hear they lost....I was looking forward to a 4A sweep in the regional tourney.
  4. bulldogfamily, Did he bench you or something. And I don't know why you would bring his playing record Dallas didn't play much girl's basketball either. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Fact 2005 Jason's Girls were TMSAA State Tournament Runners up to Oliver Springs losing by 8 points Fact 2005 Won County Championship (Napier's have choked in each of the last two tourney games) Fact is he has been county coach of the year 2 times (once at CMS, once at CHS) Fact his team has done very well in tournament play over the course of his time at CMS and CHS Fact 99% of the girls enjoy playing for him and he probably will cut the other 1% this summer lol. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> As for the comment on Armes that's a total fabrication! Bulldogfamily....I'm not sure what you are not happy about 1. that your not the coach or 2. your not the director of schools! Wartburg has not ran one possession of man to man in the post season so for you to think that is what they are doing shows your basketball i.q. which is zero! Supporting the team means supporting the coach.....he is the head of the program! I'll call you what you are bulldogfamily A COWARD! Come see the coach to discuss any problems that you have with him you accomplish nothing on here!
  5. Wartburg is missing their starting point guard 16ppg and one starting forward 18ppg so right now the Wartburg girls are just trying to survive.
  6. GAME BLOUSES!......................LOL
  7. I think Jeffers and Yaden are both quality guys and coaches. I've known both for a while and watched them handle their teams in middle school. Both are aggressive and to the point types of people. I guarntee the boys that do what they ask of them will be successful. I still think they are in the top 2-3 in Dist 4-A...........That would be pretty good for a first year coaching tandem. Give it time and be patient. Things will work out for the tribe!
  8. It will take a couple of years to fix things up there. I think if people give them time they will see some improvement. I didn't realize they had gone so long without a district win. Big uphill climb for the Tigers. Just keep supporting and stay after it. Those freshmen look pretty good. I think that the problem with the turnovers with Wartburg was where they were happening....right next to the wartburg basket....led to easy points.
  9. Maybe they should clone him! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Playermom, Don't forget the hardware store! I heard he runs that too! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I think that the dist will finish like this 1. O.S. 2. Coalfield 3. Wartburg 4. Oneida 5. Sunbright 6. Oakdale But I wouldn't count Wartburg out late in the season!
  10. Why do schools put up with losing the way Kingston has. I looked at their roster and they have some size, some decent guards, and look like they could play 7 or 8 a night so why are they allowed to stink by the administration? 14-44 you know in sports you are what your record says you are as a coach especially! Just food for thought!
  11. Yeah Dumb A! KC is one of the best players I've ever seen! With that said I think that Coalfield is much better than they are as a team. Jordan would be a force anywhere she was and if she were in a better program like O.S. or even Wartburg would be in the running for Miss Basketball her Jr. and Sr. years. Even though she's playing a style of ball that may not feed her incredible talent I still think she's able to push the Lady Jackets and Coach Hines to the top of 4A. 1. Coalfield - AJ is next and Walls provides the inside power. 2. Oliver Springs - KC is NOW and makes her team a contender each season 3. Wartburg - Armes and Fountain have a good 1-2 punch don't count em out in Feb. 4. Oneida - Good young team with solid coaching 5. Oakdale - rebuilding 6. Sunbright - They are sunbright! Why anyone would play there when they are that close to Wartburg and Oneida I'll never know!
  12. I heard that Wartburg lost 2 starters in practice yesterday. I don't know if they were hurt or if the coach is just unhappy with them. That changes the attitude surrounding this game.
  13. Calm down there playermom! In my opinion the regular season is just a long drawn out practice for about 5 games in tourney season. I don't know exactly how they'll get there but Wartburg looks to me to be a team that has GREAT guard play and their post players are looking very aggressive in the last two games. I'm seeing them begin to play together more...if they start looking to the block more they will be a tough team to beat in time. No way they aren't in the mix for 4A at the end of the year.
  14. Monterey should have won. When W. Walls was ejected from the game Monterey should have been awarded 2 freethrows. They were not and that was the difference in the game. It looked like a summer league game.
  15. What's going on with Midway? I felt like they had gotten much better toward the end of last year. How do you think they'll be?
  16. CRY, The boosters paying a coach extra is no different than ORNL paying a bonus to say a Science teacher. Which is going on right now in the system. Booster clubs are seperate from school funds. Currently alot of equipment in the Wartburg program is bought through the boosters.
  17. Good point! Especially when you only won your election by like 8 votes! I think he needs some help for his syndrome /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  18. Our community is willing to step up and attempt to improve our program because we feel that it has the potential to be very good. CRY Jacket you have an overly elevated opinion of yourself. We are not ignorant and understand what is necessary in order to pay this money...We have booster clubs established for every sport so we know how that works. There are two good groups of young players at Wartburg Incoming Freshman and Sophmores and I think that in the not too distant future you'll see a great deal of improvement in the program. Also, I don't think that anyone is asking you to approve a suppliment for just one coach....I think your problem is this.......If the business that is in wartburg plus a couple of big donors got truly behind bulldog athletics it would be impossible for Coalfield to compete with us in the funding department. I think that you are going to see a much more concentrated effort to improve ALL of our programs in Wartburg. Basketball is doing fine, Baseball is OK, and Football is going to be much more competitive...oh yeah and we also do quite well academically. CRY you can rest assured that your money is being spent well in this community. Isn't there a Coalfield thread you should be in anyway?
  19. Hey CY the community is going to pay Jay the money so stick your NO VOTE!
  20. Royalty???? Give me a break! We will see how many times we go to the playoffs and beat Alcoa now that he's gone. I've said on here before he is the only guy to beat Alcoa, Rockwood, Sweetwater, O.S., etc. It will be a long time before another coach at Wartburg will be able to say that. Having said that, now it's time to get behind the program and try to find a way to fix many of the problems associated with it......Good Luck Boys!
  21. I agree with you 100% /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
  22. rSquared, I do think that Snow is a terrific coach. I just feel that Carmen has been the second best for 4 or 5 years now. I think that this group of kids could be her best display of coaching since they seem to have alot of the necessary parts to the puzzle she's going to come in to her own. I'm not trying to put the Oakdale coach down at all. Just think that she's (Carmen) is a very good coach. She did do a great job with a Freshman loaded team this season! She could have easily made it to the regional tourney. How do you see the dist shaking out at this early juncture?
  23. I don't think there is a need for a shot clock in HS Basketball. Has O.S. ever heard of a 1/2 court trap or press or pressure man 2 man? There were all kinds of things that they could have done to speed the game up! Fact is their defense was not as good a gleason's ball handling! GET OVER IT! I hope everyone that plays O.S. plays stall ball since it would cause an entire community to lose it's composure.....incidentally that is something that Gleason appeared to have an abundance of COMPOSURE! Good Job Gleason and O.S. O.S. Fan stop complaining about the game and just enjoy the fact you had a great season!
  24. I think Coalfield will finish second in the district behind Oliver Springs. I can't see any way that the amount of talent they have could finish otherwise. Coach Hines is probably the best coach in the District. Jordan will be amazing from the get go! O.S. Coalfield Oakdale Wartburg Oneida Sunbright
